Ryu Sushi is a little unsuspecting; the location is kind of weird in the sense that the parking lot of small. We went here for a friend's birthday, and was it definitely a fun night! The restaurant is fairly large, and seems like a lot of people like coming here for family/friend dinners. Like the name insists, the teppanyaki is the way to go. Their menu isn't that large, so it was pretty easy to make a decision. I opted for the filet mignon (rare) along with shrimp. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. Hubby & I had dinner here last Friday night. We made a reservation. The earliest you can make it for is 5:00. We arrived a little early, so they told us we could sit at the bar & have a drink. We sat there for 15+ minutes & the girl getting things ready for the bar totally ignored us. Right before we were seated someone else took our drink order & said she'd bring them to the table. Hubby got a beer & I got a Tito's & cranberry juice. We ordered an appetizer. While we were waiting they sat another 4 with us. We all expected dinner & a "show", but none of us expected the show we got. One of the staff started screaming at another staff member. We had no idea what the female staff member was saying since her words were not in English. She was so loud & screaming in the bar area so the entire restaurant could hear her. A couple of staff members tried to claim her dow. This went on for several minutes. It was crazy. All us customers were silent & just looking at the girl screaming & yelling. The next thing we know, round two. It was unbelievable. What was even crazier was they didn't send the staff member home! No one came over & said a word. No one apologized or said anything. After all of this, they sat couple with us. Finally the chef came to the table. By this time it was 20 til 6:00. Hubby got the filet with fried rice. I got the shrimp with fried rice. The food was good. However, hubby's steak was over cooked. Thankfully, hubby told the chef he wanted to change the steak from medium to medium rare, or it would have been even more over cooked. I also watch all of the employees but one prepping the food without gloves. This used to be our go to place for, but now with all this issues this time, we will probably have to find a new place. read more

On date night looking for a sushi place in the area and we found Ryu. It had hibachi and sushi so a win-win situation. The show was great and we were fortunate to sit at a table with other friendly people so it was a great time. I had the vegetarian Teppanyaki that had stir-fried vegetables and tofu. I also had the chilli cheese sushi - deep-fried jalapeño, cream cheese, cucumber, avocado. Topped with spicy mayo sriracha sauce. My boyfriend had the steak Teppanyaki and the last Vegas sushi - tempura battered roll with crab, avocado, cream cheese & sweet chili sauce. Everything was great! read more

Sucked! We always go for Mother's Day and this year just stunk. The place was so HOT. All 4 thermostats set at EIGHTY TWO! The food has gone downhill, they sorta rush you, was dirty... idk wtf went on but I'm done with this place. DID NOT order friend rice and charged us all for it without asking. I will NOT be back. I can find a better more comfortable place that's clean for $300! YUCK - the chef kept wiping his sweat with a rag. The exhaust fans must not work the place was billowing smoke. A great experience awaits you at Ryu Sushi! Staff pleasantly welcomed us ( I reco getting a reservation if you are doing teppanyaki) and squeezed us in right away at a table. First thing is the sushi is really good here, we tried the crunch roll and some sashimi, portions are good and it was delicious. Family got the teppanyaki, and it's a bit pricey but worth it if that's what you are looking for. We got the filet mignon and the NY steak, the chef cooked it perfectly. Went here yesterday and the place was like a smoky sauna, had to be 90° in there. Steak was miniature, bill was enormous. I asked for my steak medium and it was definitely well done. The people next to us got spinach and sprouts with their food. We got nothing.. small little pile of vegetables mostly onions. Last minute change of plans for my 50th birthday dinner with my husband brought us to Ryu and it did not disappoint! We got in early and sat at the bar. Austin was the chef making rolls and waited on us right away. Our 1st time here we asked if he had a favorite roll and we ordered off his recommendation 10/10 the Sour Roll. We also had a Vegas roll and firecracker roll....Soooo good! Austin was kind and shared a special birthday treat for my husband and I, he even sang a little happy birthday song to me. By the time we were finished with dinner the place was packed with families celebrating New Years Eve with Teppanyaki. Everyone was enjoying their time and was fun to watch. Based on the ratings we went to this place and it was a bit disappointing. Let me start by saying the suggestion on Yelp for reservations isn't accurate. Place was very empty. We were sat right away at the table. We ordered spicy edamame which was good. tuna Nigiri and Salmon. The tuna was good not great but the Salmon has a weird discoloration so we did not eat it. We ordered hot sake and it had a sour vinegar toast to it. I told the girl about it and she said it's their house sake and that's how it's supposed to taste. We qui drinking it. I never had sake with sour vinegar taste. The food the guy cooked was good a bit over salty. He kept squirting liquids from 4-5 different bottles. Then here comes the girl with another sake and she said try this. We tried it and it was normal like sake is supposed to taste. My buddy googled why sake tastes like vinegar and it said it is spoiled or old, see picture attached. Will not go to this place again. read more

There's a reason they've been here since 2013. Prices are very reasonable and their meat quality is excellent. It reminds me of a local owned mom and pop Benihana on a smaller scale. Flavors are great and the tuna quality was really up there. Especially for the price. read more

Went here for my birthday dinner last night and had an incredible time! I wish I got the name of our chef but sadly I did not. He was wearing a thick red headband and I have seen him there before. He was so fun tho! I've been to teppanyaki several times and he was the first chef I felt like actually did some fun new tricks. It was a little warm in there. We have been by here so many times, I am so happy we finally went inside! The staff here was all so helpful and friendly. My husband and I have been coming here for 8 years. We love the food, the staff, and the atmosphere! We usually come for dining, not Teppanyaki, BUT we love to watch. Placed an order on a food app. Food was ready in no time, granted it was when it opened up. Came in and asked for my order. Let me say, the lunch sushi rolls were very filling! I got the salmon and spicy tuna rolls-each order has 8 pieces. I also ordered the calamari appetizer. Everything was delicious. My only complaint is the calamari was more than the sushi rolls! Went back for teppanyaki, and me and my friends absolutely loved it ! Had a great time and the food was awesome ! I got the filet and scallops, and both were delicious . I got my filet cooked rare and it was cooked exactly how I like it , melted in my mouth. Generous portions of fried rice (which was delicious ) and we got soup and salad to start. We also ordered some gyoza as an appetizer, which are pan fried (my favorite way to have them). The chef was great and the servers were always good about checking in with drinks and what not . Have been here several times for different occasions, mainly birthdays. Each and every time I've gone, the staff has been very lively, and friendly. The restaurant is always a bit loud, but that is to be expected. It is frequently busy, so they're doing something right! They also put on a wonderful show! Our favorite hibachi chef is Troy, so ask for him! Food was solid, standard for hibachi, with a fair selection of choices for them to toss on the grill. They also have a solid variety of sake options, which include a lot of unique, fruity options. Highly recommend, especially for fun events like birthdays! read more

We stopped here for dinner the other day. The restaurant is clean in the services outstanding. We ordered three of the dinners. We got a sushi roll and one person ordered a glass of wine. I had iced tea. The chef did a nice job of cooking for us. The food was delicious. I will say this is not an inexpensive place to eat. Our bill for three people with one glass of wine and a nice tea was over $150 with tip. I almost gave them three Stars based on the cost of the meal but decided to give them a four because everyone there was working so hard and so pleasant. We were celebrating my birthday and heard rave reviews about Ryu on the Go Gilbert Facebook Page. We were very excited to try it out. The ambiance is typical for a Teppanyaki restaurant. Upscale, but not very formal. It was very hot inside, likely from the griddles. Our main issue was that we waited over an hour to geta chef for our table. There was only one chef at the time and he was just starting a separate table when we arrived. The soup and salad were incredibly small portions. They were really good but we were still starving waiting for our main courses. Our chef was an older man, who was very friendly and entertaining. I ordered the Filet and Scallops, and my mom ordered the Filet and Chicken. Each entree comes with fried rice, vegetables and 2 shrimp, along with 2 dipping sauces. Everything was really good, especially the shrimp. The steak and scallops were nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. I really liked our chef and the food he made, but I cannot give 5 stars due to the ridiculous wait time. I've eaten here twice now, and bith times I thought it was mediocre at best. The sushi is lukewarm, and their non-traditional veggie tempura lacks crunch and falls flat. Our server "Vincent " was fantastic! He out on quite a show that we all enjoyed. We liked the atmosphere. Small and more intimate than the bigger places. We had a party of 13 and it was easier for everyone to communicate Food was delicious and done right. Serving size could have been a bit bigger We ordered steak and they split one small steak with two people, didn't give each person too much. Came here for dinner with a friend a few weeks ago - we didn't plan ahead and would've had to wait for an hour for a teppanyaki table so we sat on the boring dinner side. The teppanyaki menu is still available, but you are definitely reminded of what you are missing out on since you can see/hear the excitement right behind you. Or more positively, you can get non-teppanyaki food but still get a bit of a show. Great for introverts who don't want to interact with the chef but like the exciting ambience. I ended up ordering the nabeyaki udon, one of my favorite dishes at any restaurant. The veggie selection was good (some restaurants just add a bunch of random things that don't pair well with the broth) and the noodles were chewy - a solid interpretation. Lastly, the service was ok - the food came relatively quickly, but they were slow in terms of refreshing our waters. In some ways understandable since we were the only table on the slow side, but then again, we were the only table on the slow side. Will be back for a teppanyaki date sometime soon though! read more
