Used the U-Bahn Underground Railway to reach the Olymiazentrum Station via the U3 line. It was just a couple of euros more for the day pass. Easy to explore the BMW Welt (which is free) , the BMW Museum (which requires a ticket) and the Olympic Stadium from this station. Make sure to visit the Memorial to the 1972 Munich Massacre of the Israeli Olympic Team. So tragic.

Opened in time for the Summer Olympics that year, it services the U3 line between Oberwiesenfeld (toward Moosach) and Petuelring (toward Fürstenried West) and the U8 line which it terminates and is next to Petuelring (toward Sendlinger Tor). The station has two island platforms, which means that the doors open on the left. There is a bus station at surface level. This station is also closest to the BMW Museum, which is why I was here. The Gern station serves the U1 and U7 lines of Munich's U-Bahn network. It is close to the Huburtus…read morefountain but is not really walking distance to the Nymphenburg Palace (I had a Lime scooter). On U1, it is between Westfriedhof (toward Olympia-Einkaufszentrum and Rotkreuzplatz (toward Mangfallplatz). On the U7, the same stations but the terminus beyond Rotkreuzplatz is Neuperlach Zentrum. We transited through here to get to Salzburg and see a few nearby castles while in town for 9 days. We found it a bit more confusing to navigate than the Central Station but were easily able to find snacks and foods for lunch and find our platforms.

Due to its proximity to our Munich hotel, Ostbahnhof was our "home base" when traveling. It's large…read moreand can be a bit confusing (as any subway/train/hub of travel can be to those who aren't used to it), but once you get the hang of the hallways, stairs and turns, it's easy to navigate. We took many a train to and from our second "home base", Marienplatz. The thing that I loved about starting and ending at Ostbhanhof was the fact that we could take practically any train - going in the correct direction, of course - if we wanted to stop at Marienplatz. That meant we rarely had to wait for a train, which was an added bonus, given we were there in the middle of winter, and there is no shelter from the cold, wind and rain on the platforms. Signage is plentiful, there are plenty of ticket machines scattered throughout the station, and one can buy anything from pastries and coffee to lotions and toothpaste without having to leave the relative warmth of the station itself. Our last train out of Ostbahnhof was the one to Salzburg, so we were able to connect locally as well as "internationally". It definitely made it easy for weary travelers, with just a bit of German language on their side.
