Latteria Garbatella is fashioned from a old milk vending station, and the spacious interior is matched by an outstanding paved garden, which is just coming into its own with the warm weather. The cocktails are good, and the barstaff inventive: twice they have come up with original versions of my favourite tipple, the Negroni; one with a vermouth marinated with cloves and another called a White Negroni, with white vermouth and Biancosarti. They aren't incredibly alcoholic but sometimes that's a plus. The aperitivo consists of crudités with dipping oil and small dishes of couscous. I haven't tried the food yet, so who knows, maybe I'll be awarding that 5th star soon!

This place is as hipster as hipster goes in Rome, from location, to wooden and leathery miss matched forniture, to bearded waiters, yet the staff is incredibly nice and attentive, the atmosphere truly relaxed and cocktails are good without trying too hard. They have quite a few from this Oxiana brewery. I had the tripel and didn't like much. I then moved to have a bottle because the selection was better. The ambience is nice and although I didn't eat they looked great. I saw many people ordering and they smelled amazing. It's a shame about the beer.

Served with a delicious baked potato drowned in olive oil and salt, cicoria with tomato and olives and local wine, it is a feast of epic proportions. Missed it by one day…read more.. Continuing on my quest to eat non-Italian food in Italy (I'd been on a pasta bender and needed to get off for a little while), I found Brasserie 4:20. Beyond being impressed that the craft beer/burger scene in Rome resembled what it was in the States, I was shocked to find Roman bros. America, we have to do better at our exports. Alas, it's true. There are Roman bros and they congregate and work here. So, guys just be aware that if you come here, you service will come after any cute thing in a skirt that wants food/drink/whatever. The music is bro-y. The vibe is bro-y. It's a bro bar. That said, they have some good things to offer. Beyond connecting with bros from another continent, you come here for beer & burgers (and rock music and brownies but mostly beer & burgers). Despite not being much of a burger guy, I figured that 'when in Rome...'* Thing is, this burger didn't taste much like a lot of the ones I'd had back home. I ordered the angus burger with cheese, onions and pickle. The first thing I noticed was that the meat tasted much better than most of the burgers I'd had in the States. I don't know whether this was because of the angus beef or because we're not getting the real deal in the States. I'd had angus beef before. It didn't taste this good. Had I eaten beef like this regularly, I don't know that I could have given it up as easily. All this is to say that the beef wasn't as seasoned as it could have been. Salt & pepper before it's grilled, boys. That's all you need. Good quality beef. Needed more seasoning. To accompany my burger, I tried two beers: the Royal Brown and the Terzo Tempo. I don't know if styles change from country to country but I found the brown to taste more like a stout and my cream ale was REALLY light. This isn't to say that I didn't enjoy drinking them (well, the cream ale was a bit of a disappointment) but they provided a different taste profile than I was anticipating. I experienced all of this while sitting at the bar (the perfect vantage point, in my opinion). If in Rome and in need of a pasta/pizza break, head to 4:20. The bro vibe is real but such could/should be expected when eating angus beef burgers and drinking craft beer. *I told you it would be used more than once. I told you.

Not only do they have delicious drinks and food, it's also all dirt cheap and even though the place is crowded you will hardly meet any tourists here. Let's start with the drinks. You get wonderful Sprizz in several variations (ginger, elderflower, original) for 2,5€, other coktails, long drinks, wine and even a decent selection of beer all for next to nothing (Gin Tonic 3,5€). The cocktails are all delicious and light. The food is limited to a few what you think might be just snacks, but brace yourself. We ordered a meat and cheese platter for 4 people and couldn't finish it with the 6 of us. What they served was a board loaded and loaded with the most delicious sorts of italian meat and cheese. You have salame, ham, salsiccia, serano all freshly cut behind the bar. Even though the meat is dominant you also have wonderful cheeses such as parmegiano, ricotta and others, served with honey on the side as a perfect, well rounded topping. The whole board is topped with two bruschetta with pesto spread and you get three bags of bread on the side. Crispy flatbrad, regular white bread, grissini sticks and round, crispy bread thingies. And all that for ridiculous 5€. As I said, we couldn't finish our platter with 6 people because it was so much and we all felt a little awkward eating so much pure, but so delicious meat. Next time I would def try the cheese or vegan platter that also looked fantastic. One last sentence about the atmosphere: The place is crowed until late in the night, even the tables outside. The guest are usually young, hipsterish, lefty Italians. No tourists, no rich fat cats, no annoying womaniser. More the type of peoples who would also go to CSOA Forte Prenestino for a good techno party. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, hipsterish and open. I love the place! Will def come again!
