Both the salt encrusted sea bass and sole in butter sauce with pine nuts were fantastic. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff were great in bringing out a candle lit dessert and singing happy birthday. The people watching was almost as good as the food. Parking in the town can be difficult but we were lucky in getting space in the only parking lot in the town. The other option is to take a taxi at 35 euros each way, or the bus for a couple euros.

Bar Morena is one of the 8 or so restaurants that are waterside and one of but 3 that are open for breakfast. I kept it simple and had a caffe americano and toast with ham and cheese. The toast was quite large and filling...certainly enough for a post-run re-fueling. Service was ok and it was a relaxing spot to chill and take in the shopkeepers who were preparing to open their stores. Early morning is a great time to take in Portofino given that it's pretty quiet and peaceful...and taking the bus from Santa Margherita Liguere avoids the need to drive the tight roads from SM Liguere to Portofino.

Our bill was around $150eu for everything, including drinks, dessert, etc. Again, one of our favorite meals in our nearly 4 weeks in Italy. We chose the molten chocolate cake for dessert and the waiter also brought out an additional free plate of small amaretto cookies, chocolate, and gumdrops. So good. Service was excellent. It was a short 15 min walk from our hotel. Was glad to have the walk home to wear off a bit of all I ate.
