Passing through Burgos on about lunch time on the way from the Rioja region to Madrid, we decided to go into town to look for a place to eat. The entry into Burgos was not promising but a quick internet search put us on to Saciedad Secreta--the name made it too interesting to pass up. The restaurant is a little difficult to find--to say it is off the beaten track would be an understatement but I am so glad we persevered and made it to this place.
Entry is through the very cool and well-designed bar area. The dining room is in the back. Atmosphere is hip with clever references all around to a "secret society". Service is very attentive and professional, while being friendly and very personable. All that said, the food is definitely the star of the show. The small staffed kitchen turns out some serious and innovative examples of modern Spanish cooking.
The wine list is very good, with a focus on interesting and innovative producers over the big names. Prices for both the menu and the wine list are moderate.
These two New York foodies will be back. In fact, we will be back to spend the night in Burgos because of this restaurant. It is a destination restaurant--highly recommended! read more
