I'm not even a good Buddhist for that matter. But I do like good music, a good homily (it's so much like a good lecture, so it's a career skill that I learn from good podium speakers, and don't you think priests should use background Powerpoints and pause for questions?), and historic places. The church is beautiful Romanesque Revival style with some NeoGothic touches, majestic stained glass, and wonderful acoustics. Interestingly there's little of the history of the parish on their website but it's well described in the National Registry of Historic Places. The oldest part is the convent, tracing back to the start of the parish by German immigrants in the late 19th century. I highly recommend the chapters on German immigration in "The Making of Milwaukee" by John Gurda, it's a PBS documentary. The best aspect of this parish is that while other Catholic masses are relaxing COVID19 precautions in another surge, this parish has a dedicated mask required mass for those of us who truly value all human life. Also in the plus column, the priest giving the homily was passionate, articulate, with good timing. Of course this is based on Christmas Mass when they all give it their best, but I suspect this padre is always delivering well. The music was exceptional, organ and two sopranos. Or maybe a soprano and a tenor. Yes, now that I think about it, my Chief of Staff was the other soprano and not part of the choir above us. Ushers are attentive and spry, the area parking isn't bad.

It really is a place you can walk in without needing someone to attend with you to take initiative of your faith. The hospitality staff is hospitable. The atmosphere is subversive and enriching. You truly feel like your small children are going to be just fine without you for an hour, and that their presence is valued and learning is catered to at their age range. Their coffee station layout is practical, it's hot and I love that there's hazelnut creamer as an option. The pastors there all have a unique-ness to them, all well spoken and the crowd engagement I think testified to that. I like the bulletins, however I do wish that there was something a bit more engaging like fill in the blanks to keep along with the service but I do- do reiterate it on my own. This used to be a theater and it makes it just a place worth visiting to sit in the red chairs that flip up. Whoever takes care of the lighting and the transitioning during service does a great job. It's those subtle things like lighting that make all the difference. The music is something you can sync too, there's definitely talented people on stage with the instruments as well as vocally. I noticed that there's a good variation of lead singer/speaker rotation. The option of service at 9:00 am or 11:00 am is a nice touch, as a kid I remember only 8am, and if you hit the snooze button, well, you miss service. I think this place holds place for a lot of people to identify from all backgrounds.

I have made this my home congregation and it has never disappointed. Welcoming to my husband too who was raised catholic. He has enjoyed the congregation as well. We both loved the church so much, we were married here last June. Everyone told us how beautiful the church was and were pleased to find out we attend it regularly. I do admit we found it while on the lookout for a Lutheran church in Milwaukee we wanted to get married at. The pastor is also very interesting and engaging to listen to. I pay better attention to him than most no matter how hard i try. :-) There is also a K-8 elementary school attached for members or others with young children. Between services are adult bible study classes as well. Two service times to fit your Sunday plans perfectly. The only problem: finding a church this good whenever my husband and i finally buy a house and move closer to my work.

Good professional and helpful staff, beautiful organ music, Dedicated staff are like team players-they all play together.... Amazing choir with kudos to the choir director. Interesting history on the church itself. Also, the cemetery next to it has some interesting stories tied to the very first congregational members!! If you love history and the beginnings of a Christian church, don't pass this one up! You will become more then a church member here!
