Just came back from a 30+ day tour in South East Asia which included Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia,…read moreSingapore and Thailand. Tucan Travel offered best value for the money and initial bookings/communications with outstanding (esp since I'm in the San Francisco area and they are based in UK). The itinerary was perfect with right amount of activities and free time to do optional excursions/shopping etc. Hotels were generally good. Out of 16 hotels we stayed at all were clean, comfortable and safe. We only had issue with one hotel in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia and sent detailed letter to Tucan Travel and they responded quickly (not with just an email but a written letter that included details about hotel which I did not incl in my letter which demonstrates they actually researched my letter - and confirmed a regional manager will be conducting an onsite inspection). Food was generally good and customary for the region but service was always good. Our tour guide Laura M. was outstanding. She was young and from the UK, which originally gave us concerns about the authenticity of our itinerary/experience, but just after 1 day she proved us wrong! She truly demonstrated her compassion and knowledge of Vietnam and Cambodia like no other could. She respected the culture and people while always making sure all guests were happy and safe. Everywhere we traveled, locals would shout out her name, which proves this point. Transportation was very exciting as we rode motorized and pedal "tuk-tuk", mini buses, public buses, wooden motor boats, bicycles etc and Laura always made sure we were safe and comfortable (no passengers left behind). In fact during our travels in Cambodia, two girls from Canada were on our bus not from out tour, and were lost trying to get back to Vietnam but had problems with their Visa due to miscommunications. Laura heard another driver send them off the bus and she convinced them they were given wrong info and asked them to stay on bus. She not only gave them the correct info, but made several phone calls and emails that night to here local contacts who took care of everything for them the next morning. We had drinks with the two girls that night and they had nothing but amazing things to say about Laura and how she went out of the way to help them and how they would be totally lost and out of their hard earned money for remainder of trip if they could not get there. Tucan Travel's website seems they focus more on Central America Tours, but I can vouch for them that their South East Asia tours are well thought out and offer the best value. For Americans concerned about booking with a Travel Agent in the UK, do not worry as both their sales and customer service teams are just as outstanding as their tour guides. Edmar was a…read moreexcellent and knowledgeable guide showing clear understanding the trail and offering valuable advice. He also was able to very effectively support are of the trekkers in my group who started to get too cold and was having a hard time the trek for the portion we were . He offered lots of commentary on the things we passed along the way, so we left the trek quite well informed. He was also overall very personable and enjoyable to be around for the duration of the trip. The chef was very good as well tasty and healthy food as, with extremely large portion sizes that would satisfy the hungriest. Overall, the trek was enjoyable and well organized are absolutely recommend to others.

Mike's lifelong history and obvious love of the canals, how they were used and why, were highly educational and entertaining. From the African Hunting Dogs on the shores of the Zoo to the notches in the bridges from ropes once used to pull the boats, Mike knew about it all and had great stories to go along with it. The rate he charges for a private two person tour is incredibly reasonable. If big crowds aren't your cup of tea I highly recommend this tour. I imagine larger tours would be fine too - but the personalized attention and spacious accommodation was perfect for us. Bravo Mike - on our short trip to London we only did one "tourist"-y thing and it was your trip, and we couldn't have made a better choice. It was beautiful, educational, fun, and extremely memorable.

We used David's Day Tours for two separate day trips. The planning process was easy and quick. We…read moremade arrangements via email, paid our 20% deposit via PayPal to reserve his time and then paid the balance in cash upon completion of the tour. David picked us up promptly as arranged and had us home within a couple of minutes of the planned 10 hours - amazing given traffic. He was a very safe driver and accommodated our individual needs during the trip. David provided a flip-phone to use to call him for pickup while exploring on the tour. The first day trip was to Oxford and the Cotswold villages. David provided lots of background information and history along the way to Oxford. He then let us off in Oxford and we spent about an hour walking through town and taking pictures. When we finished, we called using his provided phone and within about 2 minutes he was there to pick us up. We continued to the villages of Asthall, Swinbrook, Burford and EastLeigh where we stopped for lunch at The Victoria Inn. After lunch, we continued on through Bibury, Winson, Bourbon on the Water, Lower Slaughter, Upper Slaughter, Stow on the Wold, Chipping Norton and Woodstock. We stopped as desired to shop, take pictures and stroll through the villages. Very scenic and quaint area. The second day trip we went to The Wallops villages - Over Wallop, Nether Wallop and Middle Wallop. We saw Miss Markle's cottage and visited St Andrews Church built about 1020 AD and saw the frescoes from that time period. From there we went to Salisbury and spent about 1.5 hours at the gorgeous Salisbury Cathedral. Once again, we called David with his phone and within a couple of minutes he was there to pick us up when we finished. We then drove to Old Sarum, site of the original Salisbury Cathedral. We drove through the Woodford villages and past the home of rock musician Sting. Then we began the Neolithic part of the tour visiting Stonehenge, Avebury Stone Circle, Lockeridge Dene, West Kennet Long Barrow, Woodhenge, Silbury Hill and Durrington Walls. I really felt that seeing all of these sights on the same day helped give us some context and understanding of the time period. Highly recommend!

He also let me know that the time was changing the night before our tour, which was very useful information as the hotel did not mention anything about a time change and we were not aware of it. David is very knowledgeable and shares a lot of information while driving to each destination. We learned about not only the sites we were set to see but also about the buildings, statues and areas that we passed along the way. We started our day at Hampton Court. David provided us with tips on how to make the most of our time there. We were able to explore on our own and then he picked us up for our lunch break. David had reservations already made for us at a cute restaurant on the river. We ate inside the restaurant and David stayed outside and was ready to go when we were done. The food and service there was excellent. We then continued to Windsor Castle. We were able to take all the time we wanted touring the castle and then shopped around the town afterwards. When we were ready, I simply sent David a text and he was there and ready to go in 5 minutes. We had a pleasant drive back to our hotel with great conversation. Ask him anything about the area and he will be able to answer with confidence. David is also knowledgeable regarding accessibility at the sites. My mom needed to use a cane that day and David was very patient and assisted her with getting in and out of the van. Additionally, we asked David about local markets to visit the next day and he provided us with information on several different ones. We went with the market he recommended and my mom had a blast walking around and shopping. Bottom line, we had a great time, we appreciated his service, and we would definitely book with David again.
