I contacted Safer Chimney for chimney repairs this past summer in July. They did a wonderful job; Shawn was also kind to blow leaves and debris off our roof and then the sidewalks while he waited for things to set. Because he was so kind and generous to do that, I asked if he would be interested in re-bricking our front steps as well. He agreed and also did a beautiful job on them. I'm thrilled with how they turned out. They did 5-star work. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because of issues with timeliness in coming/arrival and finishing jobs in a timely manner that others mentioned in their reviews. I do hope that this company visits this criticism and takes it as incentive and opportunity to review how they can improve in this area. After the 4th time of them rescheduling me on the day of service, I am done. Very bad communication on their part. You call and they hang up or don't answer- kind of like they are screening the calls. I can't say if they do a good job, as they did no work, just kept wasting my time. Please beware that if you don't give them a positive review, the owner will respond to your review in the message section and basically 'chastise' you by saying your information in your review is incorrect. Reading some of the reviews, my experience is not something that is necessarily unusual and reading how the company responded (unprofessional) is somewhat of a pattern. Read the reviews here and on the BBB website before using them. Give it a rest!! I have not been your customer for 6 years! And do not speak for me! Yes, the job was eventually done and the technician was fine. Not great and not bad but your lack of following through and coming to do the job work when scheduled is the issue. I gave an honest and accurate review. If you don't like it, change how you schedule your customers and notify them in a timely manner if you can't make it. I would give this company 0 if it were possible. The Owner Shawn lies and says he will finish job but never shows up. We made several appointments last fall and this spring for him to finish the work but never showed up ever. NEVER PAY THIS GUY UP FRONT BECAUSE HE WILL NEVER COME BACK AND FINSIH THE WORK. Never informed us that we needed a permit and Idaho inspection done to be in compliance with state laws and insurance carrier. This is a serious issue that should be reviewed by the HVAC state of Idaho. After we found out about this issue, we paid the for the permit yesterday and have the inspection scheduled. We went with Safer Chimney because they had the only availability at the time. It took them forever to get our quote to us. They did great work, but there were a bunch of surprises with our job and the total amount was way more than originally expected. They wanted their money right away even though the forms werw still on our chimney and we haven't passed inspection. They make the homeowner take care of the inspection, which was also a fiasco scheduling. The forms have to be off before you can pass. We show up for the inspection and the forms are still on and the inspector no showed. Safer Chimney has not returned emails or phone calls requesting thst they remove their forms so we can get inspection rescheduled. Shame on us for paying them all their invoice, they have zero incentive to finish the job. read more

It's been a chunk of time and I agreed to remove it, until I went to look at my review and see that he added the $3000 with of work not paid and a lien. That 1000% never happened and is false. We never order anything. We have never had a lien and since they never came to the house ever none of that is even possible. So now that I have seen this I won't be removing my review. A total of $11,448 was paid up front to Safer Chimney May 25, 2024 for crown rebuild, brick repair, reline, rebrace inner chimney and purchase of a new Breckwell wood insert. After installation, Safer Chimney Shawn rushed at the end work because Tristan hurt his back and had to leave. When I was dusting the insert the metal edge decoration fell apart. Also it was to be hard-wired -- the side decoration sat crooked because the big cord was in the way---also I had to leave the door open because there is an irritating humming when shut. There have been MANY texts to and from Safer since May 2024 and to date Shawn has continued to "promise to show up but continuously fails to come using many excuses. I do not recommend using "Safer Chimney" as all I have received is lies about showing. It is now December 7 2024 and i cannot properly use this insert. read more

Owner is a total crook. Has ghosted us for 6 months after he built an illegal hearth for a wood stove. He never got a permit for the job so inspector won't pass it. It also is not to code and is illegal and dangerous to use. The city we live in has had issues with the contractor as well and will no longer allow him to do projects in the city. He needs to have his license revoked immediately. The BBB has 7 complaints on him and obviously he keeps scamming people with sub par work . read more

Update 12/17/19: So after Pat, the owner, just updated his comment today about my previous update, he has not filed anything against me in regards to me supposedly slandering him on Yelp. And I have to admit, that I refuse to air out my frustration on Yelp, but I really need people to see what is happening. So his current comment dated today, 12/17/19, he slammed me saying that I was drunk and was rude to them. What is funny, is that I am allergic to alcohol, and, I wasn't even there because I don't live in that state. I gave his worker the security code to get into the house because my contractor was not available at the time to let his worker into the house. And I have proof that I wasn't there. And I have a ton of proof that I am allergic to alcohol. So why is he lying? Why would a company owner slander someone? He wanted to sue me for slander, I really want him to do it. Because now I have written proof that he is accusing me of something that is not true. Again, I do not want to "air" out this online. But I do believe that the people in this world work hard for there money. And I believe that the people need to be educated on any company that they hire. And Yelp, is a great way to remedy that. I have said it before and I will say it again, please do your due diligence before hiring a company. Read all Yelp reviews, and get recommendations from friend and family. Cannot recommend at all! Don't call Safer Chimney! Since October '21 they sent 2 technicians after weeks of delay but neither fixed our gas fireplace while it was freezing cold. They said they'd email us a bid for a whole new assembly. Never got the bid, they never answered their phone, they never responded to our pleas for help messages. Finally, we got another company that fixed our fireplace in 1 day with a $3 part. Safer Chimney was trying to rip us off because I'm 89 years old and they knew we were desperate for heat in the house. It was elder abuse at its worst! read more

Called to get an appointment for a chimney sweep in September. Couldn't get scheduled until mid-November- no problem, it's the busy season. They called ON THE DAY they were scheduled to come out to cancel the appointment - no reason given, just cancelled. Rescheduled for December 8. Guess what - they called to cancel again - at least this time we got more than 30 minutes notice. Don't make appointments you don't plan to keep. He took the time to educate me on what I should ask the other vendors and was extremely helpful. It's going to be a cozy winter!!! I have a chimney on my house built in 1945 in Parma Id. I called Safer Chimney to have it cleaned but I really wanted them to be honest with me about repairs that I knew it needed, especially the crown. Shawn came out to clean it and ended up giving the chimney a full structural inspection. He went over everything from inside and out giving me a price quote for the repairs that would make heating my home safe again. Shawn was very professional and I felt comfortable dealing with him. The repairs included relining the chimney flue with a new stainless steel liner in place of the existing broken tiles, rebuilding the broken crown which included a new screened cap. I also decided to replace the wood stove since it had some issues that concerned me. We agreed on the price, procedure and install time. We schedule a time on Monday which included Idaho Power coming out to drop the power line so the scaffolding could be set up along with trimming some tree limbs away from the chimney. Idaho Power showed first thing in the morning to do their part, then Shawn showed up shortly after that. He went right to work cutting the metal heatilator out of the old fire place. A little later, Tristin arrived jumping right in. I was amazed of how these two guys worked together like a well-oiled machine to accomplish the job at hand. They completed the work in a day as planned and under budget which thankfully saved me some money. I am VERY impressed with the company, Shawn himself, and Tristin. The answered any questions or concerns I had and completed what they said they were going to do including getting Idaho Power back to turn the power back on the same day. I can already tell that the work Safer Chimney did is far more advanced and higher quality than the run of the mill chimney sweep. This company runs an ad in the Idaho Statesman regularly stating they are number one in Chimney Sweeping, I would beg to differ. I Scheduled an appointment to have my fireplace cleaned 2 weeks in advance. Appointment time came and went and after a couple of hours, called them to find out what happened.(actually had to leave a voicemail) Got a call back and was told there was a computer glitch and the schedules got mixed up, and somebody else got my time, but a technician was actually enroute to my house right then. Long story short, no one ever made it out to my house. I still have not heard from the company. read more

In this day and age of product backed up, deliveries delayed, product not available and people NOT doing what they say their going to do, this company is a breath of fresh air. I am so pleased with this companies integrity and quality of work. Shaun is THE MAN! He installed my new Castile pellet stove in Mahogany and it is exquisite. They were delayed a bit the day of install but kept me in the loop and showed up and did the install. There were some install hurdles that were overcome as Shaun is an "I can" guy not an I can't guy. There was a space at the top that needed a custom piece and Shaun said he would cut the piece and have it back on a Saturday because I was having a dinner party that night and sure enough he showed up and installed it. He told me I had his word, and his word was true. Amazing!! Do your research and you'll see that this company is quality, it cares, and most of all has the integrity you don't find anymore. My husband and I hired Safer Chimney to install a wood burning stove insert into an existing fireplace. They showed up and performed the installation and told us that the purchase price, of $6700, included the permit to install the stove and to have the inspection performed. The stove also came with a lifetime warranty. When they left, there were some minor details that needed to be corrected, but they assured us that they would return the next day to fix them. After 6 months of having Safer Chimney either not show up for scheduled appointments, or calling us to cancel with some excuse, we hired someone else to come and complete the work, as well as clean our chimney, which Safer Chimney assured would not need to be cleaned even after burning 4 cords of wood. The contractor we hired was horrified when he saw the installation that Safer Chimney had performed and told us that it was a miracle that our house didn't burn to the ground. He also asked me what the inspection report said. I mentioned that I never saw an inspection report, so I called the county only to find that Safer Chimney never obtained a permit and did not have it inspected. We paid for a permit on our own and when the inspector came out he told us that "it's like they had no idea what they were doing when they installed this!" He also told us that it was an extreme fire hazard and pointed out that the heat had been vented out above where our propane line enters our house. We contacted Safer Chimney and demanded a full refund in April 2019. They emailed us several times and told us that they have never had anything like this before and stated that the paperwork for the permit was misplaced or they accidentally "filed it with the wrong city." It is now January 2020, and they have continued with their pattern of not following through and flat out lying. We have received a partial refund of $2500, only after filing a complaint to the State Attorney General's office. They are a horrible company and put our family's lives in severe danger, as well as our home. We have since found out that they are not an LLC, nor are they credentialed with the Chimney Sweep Guild as they claim. I was instructed by the Attorney General's office that if more people file complaints, they can prove a pattern of behavior and prosecute these people criminally. If you read the complaints on the BBB website, there are dozens similar to ours. These people need to be in jail!! read more

This company no call/no-showed on multiple occasions tried to blame us for writing the date down wrong, then blamed it on a computer glitch when we explained he had been on speaker so that schedules could be checked so that someone could be there. They seemed nice, promised to make it right & then again no call/no-showed. This time they said there had been an accident & they were overbooked. Which we explained that we understood but a call to let us know would be nice because we were having to work out our own work schedules so that someone besides my grandma could be there. On the third try, we called to just cancel the job (as it was after 4), the kid still showed up about 15-20 mins later & came with a blanket but no ladder & said he didn't know how he was going to get on the roof. We explained we had canceled the job, he apologized & left. I wrote a review about our experience on Google & then we received a call from Pat saying he read the review & he was going to take my 85 yr old grandma to court over my review of our experiences with this company. I have never been as upset with a company as I am with this one. To call & threaten an 85 yr old woman with a lawsuit & legal action when they are the ones who had multiple opportunities to fix their mistakes with us but didn't.
