If you are after anything from the bakery do not expect anything to be cooked proper anything bulk or made in store is always over cooked and management sees zero problem with this . and neither does head office they pretend they care but they do not go elsewhere if you want baked good done right unless you enjoy burnt offerings!! Do not buy meat products from the Deli at this Safeway. I have had food poisoning twice in 1 year. Once from a "cheeseburger" flavor "deli-style meat pie", and once from a package of Maple Leaf Natural Selections Roasted Beef (although the sell by date was a month away, the package was 'puffy', and it was $2 off - that should have been a warning.) Something is wrong with their temperature controls. The manager doesn't care and asserts that they have excellent standards. He further states that there is "no way they can tell it is their product that caused me to be sick unless they test what came out of me" (my actual shit). If you truly care about your family, especially infants and the elderly, NEVER by a meat-containing product from this Safeway's Deli section. I am a registered nurse. I know the onset and symptoms of food poisoning. Furthermore, I am on medication that causes chronic constipation (sorry that info... but that is just to illustrate that I would have been much more sick had I not had that chronic problem). As it was, I missed a day's work, and a day's lost wages because my sick days were already exhausted. Because the manager, Rob Goruc, believes there are excellent safety standards, and that "no one has complained of food poisoning in the 9 months I have worked here", I don't believe any action will be taken to address what is clearly flaw somewhere in their food handling process. Beware. And please complain about Rob Goruc if he doen't respond to your concerns either. I have sent complaints to Safeway head office, and Maple Leaf customer service about this store. This Safeway is okay, I second the opinion of the meat and pre-sliced vegetables (temp control is not good), however, today I had experience where I asked a question to 5 employees (most of whom were standing around) and only one took the courtesy to help me. It's decent, but it's Safeway. Their produce selection at this location is not very good. Limited selection, and sometimes their citrus looks terrible. Fresh meat is decent and their chicken and pork selection seems good. If your looking for anything unique, you may not find it here. Bakery selection can be good for baked breads, but get their early. Good for the essentials, milk, common fruit and vegetables. read more

Beware of Safeway in Calgary Alberta. Got sick after eating at the Deli at the Safeway (Montgomery). Calgary. it's no wonder with No gloves worn behind the counter, unwashed deli dishes siting in plain view, unbelievable conditions. I guess Safeway lets this store set it's own "health standards".
