Days later I ended up back here and just have to share. I have to walk with a cane and recently have begun trying to utilize store's motorized carts when I can to save a bit of stamina walking on my injuries to give them rest. The one cart available was broken so, frustrated I just did my shopping. When I was exiting the other cart was back - I had to snap a photo since it came back with an empty bottle of Petron in the basket so hay, Sunday AM - if you are drinking down a bottle of tequila, at least its a good one?!? I was loading my groceries as an employee was kind enough to warn me that someone had taken an actual dump in the ADA section right near where my car was parked. I appreciated the warning but, again, early Sunday AM - WOW. I also had forgotten the PTSD this parking lot will give you between it being horrifically arranged, that most of its users drive trucks VERY aggressively that are the size of an RV so they will and try to run you down ridiculously and the entire parking lot has potholes that are nearly a foot deep and a foot and a half wide. The whole lot is crumbling and getting in and out is challenging due to the horror show of the surrounding streets. read more

I shop at several Safeway locations regularly, but the Forest Grove Safeway stands out--in a negative way. This store is consistently unfriendly, poorly maintained, and not very clean. Staff members are often unhelpful and, at times, outright rude. Safeway is a large company, and I expect a basic level of customer service and cleanliness. Unfortunately, this location repeatedly falls short of those expectations. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works to improve the experience for customers. read more

Being from Hawaii the produce prices at this location was amazing. It was fresh and sweet. The store was clean and stocked. For those who drink liquor heads up they sell wines, beer, seltzers but they do not sell hard liquor like vodka, tequila, rum, whiskey, etc. Employees were polite and quick. read more

This is routinely the worst shopping experience within 25 miles of Forest Grove. The checkers are usually great, and I like that they hire people of different abilities to bag groceries. The deli staff is the absolute worst, they are always far more interested in talking and joking to each other than they are serving customers. I have never had a single good experience with the deli staff here. Overall, one of the biggest issues is that they are charging top prices for substandard produce and goods. You could easily go to new seasons or market of choice and spend the same amount but get far better groceries. read more

Safeway is pricey when compared to winco. I really only come to take advantage of the weekly deals which can be quite a savings. You do have to be early as the poplar items will sell out by the afternoon. It's a moderately sized store with a pharmacy in the back. Personally, I think it's not the best layout, but things are grouped together. read more

I went in this morning with my daughter and had a case of alcohol that I was getting. I tried to go through the self checkout and when the manager came over and asked for ids I gave her mine. She also asked for my daughters but she is to young to have one so it was unavailable. She however would not listen to me and told me I could not buy it because I had an underage daughter. I went in with my husband to get beer and forgot my id in my car. The manager that was working said she needed both ids even though no one else in my life has ever asked for that. She said we could not buy it. So I left and started driving back home and she told the cashier my husband tried to go and get it from that he couldn't buy it because he was with a minor. Worked here in 2021 as a cashier and courtesy clerk, it was a terrible experience to say the least, terrible staff and management in most of the department not all though, the bakery, deli, produce and dairy always did a good job. I would not recommend working here always short staffed long lines underpaying employees. However the store itself puts out good quality products although the prices are a bit steep for some. Overall in 2024 it seems to have improved a little but still I'd only come here to buy groceries or anything as a last resort. read more

I go here a few times a werk for necessities and their awesome weekly specials. Fridays are good for 5 bucks and then the rotating weekly ad is always something different. This week the deals were too good to beat. I stocked up on paper products, pizza and mangos! The workers are always nice and friendly. There is a couple of really nice ladies who work the self checkout and have so many people to manage but are so patient, even when people are not with them. There is a shorter woman with brownish/blackish hair (usually wears a low pony) who is probably the most patient with all the crazy. read more

A few days ago I went in to place an order for cupcakes, for my daughter to bring in to celebrate her 5th birthday today with her class. So I go in to pick up the cupcakes I had ordered, the baker looks at me confused and said there were no cupcakes baked... she pointed out the cupcakes on the floor, but I ordered 24ct all vanilla cupcakes which my daughter wanted. She then goes and shows me the frozen vanilla cupcakes in the freezer which was only 10ct. The baker goes and check the order slips and see my order slip with all my info and on it written "this is not an order"... This Safeway has the worst customer service... I go in to reload money like I have the last few months and today 08/23/20, the manager who was behind the counter was the most ignorant person I have had to face. I ask to reload funds on my card and she kept trying to look at my balance... I said nothing about looking at my balance! Then, she says try Western Union in a snarky, smarmy tone which only irritated me more. I will not continue my business with these people if the managers continue to be like this. I'm not sure why this store has so many negative reviews. I understand the price issue. They can be high on some of their prices. But as far as customer service, they are the one of the best stores as far as taking care of customers. I personally have had great experiences with Elizabeth R. She is quick to respond, not waiting until we have a problem. Getting back to the prices being high, I use the Safeway App and Just for You program and I am very satisfied with the prices I pay. If an item it too high, I don't buy it. Just like any other store you have to be a smart shopper. As far as customer service, I am greeted and helped through out the store. They're often out of stock of staples indicating a really poor inventory management but worse than that is the staffing. Get ready to spend 15 minutes, at least, in line to pay for your sundries. Heaven forbid you want to shop for staples after work -- you'll have to either wait 30 minutes for the two lanes they have open or join the slowest conga line in history, winding its way through the store, for the self check out. The deli is slow, painful, and I've seen customers yell at each other more than once because their frustration boils over. The employees in general are great but emote a disengagement that seems to come from being beat up by customers and treated like dirt by the management...I mean, I assume there's management though I've yet to be granted permission to talk to them. At the customer service desk they're always 'unavailable' and trying to get ahold of anyone via phone is a joke. One time, in an effort to ask the meat counter if they had ribeyes I circled the phone IVR twice before my call was finally answered by...the bakery! The bakery did not have any ribeyes. I go out of my way to avoid this waste of a building and you should too. I even feel bad for the panhandlers out front. They probably get fewer donations because everyone is so pissed off walking out. read more

I've lived in town my whole life, but last night was the last time that I will shop at the Forest Grove Safeway. I went in around 6:45 last night to pick up five items and when I went to check out discovered that there were only 3 checkers working and they all had people waiting. I went to the self checkout kiosks and discovered that there was a line of 10 people waiting to check out. The line literally spanned 1/3 of the way down the aisle. Only three of the six self checkout kiosks stations worked, the rest I was told were "offline". There was one employee assisting at the kiosks, helping with errors or malfunctions. All of the customers attempting to use the self checkout had less than 10 items. Unfortunately, it isn't an uncommon situation to have many people waiting in line both at the kiosks and the "full service" checkouts. When I called later to speak to the manager, I was told that the PIC was working a cash register. The woman on the phone told me that they were aware of the problems, but corporate wasn't quick to respond to the kiosks problems. I would rather drive a longer distance than ever return to this store. read more

I've been shopping at this Safeway for about 3 years now and not only have I gotten close with the long time employees but also the new hires as well.don't get me wrong there's been a couple of employees that just didn't make a nice fit and due to proper management like Joyce and rob who unfortunately not there anymore it all worked itself out . As far as all the negative reviews I've read I'm sorry but this stuff has never happened to me and really people stop being so petty about literally stupid stuff no one is perfect but as far as I'm concerned this store has been exceptionally nice considerate and patient with me being the father of three young boys and stay at home dad who prepares meals for these kids Joyce is going above and beyond and shown me kindness and helping out in more ways than she needs to misty is awesome as well and Ian is like a customer service robot that's helpful with everything. I am reviewing the Deli inside the store. The chinese food in this particular deli in this particular Safeway is perhaps the best I have had anywhere. The General Tsaos Chicken is one of my favorites. They have a special for $4.99 that gets you an entree and chow mein. I am always satisfied with the portion I receive. It is best, though to go in the middle of the lunch rush. That way, you are less likely to end up with the stuff that has been sitting under the lamps for an hour. When this happens, the meat can get a bit tough. For this reason, the Forest Grove Safeway Deli (Chinese section) rates 4 stars on my list. Update: Due to a consistent reduction in the quality of the food over the past several months, I must conclude that the previous cook has left, or does not work the noontime shift. As such, I am going to have to rerate the Chinese inside the store. It pains me to do this, but it only rates 2 stars now. Flavor has suffered, freshness is rare, and the chow mein is dry. Update: The quality has recovered somewhat, but now the price has gone up. The special is now $5.29 but I will rate it three stars because it is still the best Asian food in the Forest Grove area. read more

I went in to buy scratch it tickets with my boyfriend (we are both 19) and she begins to card my boyfriend, I show her my ID & she asked to see his as well, when you only have to see one persons ID when purchasing them.. If I were a wealthy woman, I'd do the vast majority of my shopping here. Alas, I am not... but they still get a chunk of my money just by virtue of being so close. Pros: Very convenient if you live in Forest Grove. Well laid out and not overwhelmingly huge, reducing shopping time. Surprisingly awesome selection for this size store. Selection of dairy-free goods in the dairy section is especially impressive (for vegans/those with milk allergy, this is a godsend) I usually find nice steaks (NY Strip, Ribeye) for $4-$5 each in manager's special section, especially on weekends. Nice produce, decent organic selection if you care (I don't) Good deals are available on sales items. Polite, helpful, friendly staff. Deli and fried chicken/jojos very good. Chinese is much better than Green Jade Palace in the same plaza (still not amazing) Pharmacy folks are really, really nice and do their very best to help you. Cons: Expensive unless the item is on sale. I buy everything I can at WinCo/Grocery Outlet and probably pay 30%-50% less than I would here for non-sale items. Kind of dimly lit. Checkout lines/deli lines can get pretty busy at peak times. Pharmacy seems to be chronically understaffed, making lines and waits rather long during peak times. Specialty medications may have to be special ordered (usually available the next day, but we've had things take a few days). read more

Then she proceeded to make a conversation with the customer she obviously knows, about every single item in her cart. I've been standing here long enough to download an app and write this review. I have been shopping at this store for years. I have never had a bad experience in any of the departments. The meat and seafood department has excellent meat deals and the seafood I buy has always been fresh. I can always count on knowable staff who take the time to explain sustainable seafood options and cooking tips. I have never bought a bad meat or seafood product here. The produce department is clean and well laid out with fresh produce both organic and non organic. The bakery rocks with a staff who excel at special orders. Especially Roland who will go out of his way to make his customers happy. This is a smaller store than others but the customer service more than makes up for it. How many stores ask you if you need help out rather than waiting for you to? Both Andrew and Bobby are two of the nicest help out clerks you will ever meet. I was in two weeks ago and could not find a sale item. A clerk who was off the clock and on her way home, stopped to help me and refused to leave until the item was located. Her name is Willa and she is the kind of employee that creates customer loyalty. My only complaint is we do not get the Safeway ad in Banks. I like to organize my meals and its hard to plan without it. read more

I had the WORST experience at this store last night. My boyfriend and I were there to buy coffee creamer and bagels for morning, as well as some ice cream to eat while watching a late-night movie. We were ready to check out by 9pm and got in the line that said "Express Lane." We waited for about 15 minutes while one of the people ahead of us cashed a check and sent the cashier out gallivanting for something else she wanted. Mind you, this lady had a full cart of groceries and wanted to pay for some with a check, some with a credit card, and some with her Oregon Trail Card. Now, let me point out that the "Express Lane" sign says right on it "Cash or Credit Only. Limit 15 Items." Finally, this lady left and I realized the woman ahead of me had just unloaded her whole cart with probably 65 items onto the belt. This is when I got annoyed because I had 4 items. I said to the clerk, "Excuse me. Which lane is supposed to be the express lane?" She looked at me and said "This one" and laughed. Then the lady with 5 times the amount of groceries allowed said, "There are only 2 lanes open." To which I responded "That does not negate the express lane notation." I could see the clerk had continued to laugh at me and started checking out the woman in front of me...The problem for me was that I was in a hurry and there only were 2 checkers with lines stretching into the aisles. I feel like they should have either called up more checkers, or the clerks should have made sure people followed the signs. I quickly realized nothing was going to change in the the situation and finally gave up and set my stuff down in the middle of everything and walked out. As I left I could hear the clerk still laughing and talking about me to the other lady. The fact is, Safeway's niche is that they are supposed to have good customer service for which you pay a little more, but when that goes completely out the window, they are nothing but an overpriced grocery chain.
