I absolutely loved going around aisle by aisle here. It was so clean and organized. There is something about going to a Safeway that's different from going to target or Walmart or Costco. Also, I love that it's open and available at the time that I'm available. I will have to say that being here at 5 AM with nobody in the building but myself and probably a few associates, made it extremely cold? Or am I just not used to AC anymore? It was actually unbearably cold that I had to leave after sometime because I was getting so uncomfortable, it hurt. But then again, this is someone who used to live in Texas and needed to always have a 66° AC to someone who now lives in a space with absolutely no AC. So take this with a grain of salt. This is probably my favorite Safeway I've ever been to and I've been to several in the country during my travels. It's a shame that I only started checking in seriously this year! I highly recommend this location for good finds and for being very well organized. It makes me want to shop more. We go here all the time And yet no one was in her line and she opened up her arms to my husband like come come all smiles which is fine ... but you see he's buying a cake that says happy birthday baby? My sister from Boston ordered me a DoorDash 2 Italian subs from Waipahu Safeway. They use boars head meats and was excellent. We have used another pharmacy for years that typically charged us $5 for copays. Recently we used the Safeway pharmacy at the Waipahu location, and were charged $30 copay for the same medication. This in spite of the fact that Safeway was included in our secondary insurance recommendations. This might be the best Safeway on island. They are stocked up, the store is organized and bright. I've never had a problem with finding any items. The staff workers are always friendly. The pharmacy staff always work with urgency. They are a lot more personable than other chain pharmacies. It has a more local, small town, hospitable feel, the pharmacist and techs take the extra time to make sure you get the medication you need. They also take the extra step to ask if you need to get up to date on any vaccinations and process your insurance/paperwork while you shop. It's so convenient. Even though I live in Kapolei, I'd happily take the drive here. read more

Poor customer service from the 2 associates who works in the meat department on 12/13~morning shift. Both associates did not demonstrate themselves in a professional manner! My daughter & I both purchased meat that had a limit. The female associate yelled from a distance "4 per family"! FYI -we do not live @ the same household! The male associate also made a rude comment to my uncle as he purchased his 4 packages of meat. That was very rude for the associates to yell from a distance! Ewa Safeway on Friday specials got to pick up all we needed for dinner, the only thing we had to make was the broccoli and rice this was a great deal with extra left over for another meal. This Safeway and the Beretania Safeways that I know of the Pali Safeway don't have the same set up as the others the different is that you can pick your own chicken instead of it being pre bagged by the counter person we're you have to pick a number and wait in long lines for everyone from deli orders and hot food orders. So the deli department only handles deli orders and the hot food items like the chicken wings or drum sticks are help yourself the whole chicken is pre packaged already. The bakery department always has a larger selection of donuts and pastries, so if it a Friday special better to go to the ones that have a bakery inside the Pali store gets their delivered so they have a limited amount of items and near the end of the day on Friday good luck if you can find any. Pali Safeway meat department has improved on keeping their special item available more the before we're you cannot find anything before by 3:00 pm so if you work a lot of times you will be out of luck! Im glad that they have improved that area of the out of stock situation. read more

Wow, impressive! Wow, expensive! I initially came to this location to get my flu shot and to try to get my covid19 booster at the same time. I was four day too early for the booster but got my flu shot and was told to go online and schedule my Covid19 booster. Oh well, I tried! SCORE, got a 10% coupon off anything I bought up to $200.00 I wandered through the store marveling at the beautiful fruits and vegetables, all marked local grown, organic, some in small bags, most not. A butcher shop where you can pick and choose a cut of meat or from the fresh seafood section. A Delicatessen serving Boar's Head meats and cheeses sliced to your specifications. A bakery. A Pharmacy that is operating at full speed giving flu shots, filling prescriptions and doing the Covid19 shots. I really like this store. I've been going to the Waimalu Safeway but mostly for the jumbo eggs. Ha ha they have them here too so I can just skip it and just go straight to Waikele. Got online and made an appointment for my booster and made a second visit, scored another 10% off coupon. I wanted to make steak tacos for dinner tonight. Got the ribeye steaks, small flour tortillas, the stuff to make pico, guacamole and even the shredded lettuce. Didn't score the crema but squeeze sour cream they had. Nice cheese section but I went for the pre-grated four Mexican cheese. Checking out my total came to $99.95, the clerk asked if I wanted to donate $10 to the lunch program to get school kids breakfast so I used my 10% off coupon and gave her the $10. The club card saves $ This a Safeway like all the others I've reviewed. (I know you read those). This particular store is only a couple of years old, still very clean and modern. Meaning all the light work so you can see the freshness of the produce aisle. Meaning a large open butcher space to see the meat cutting and poke slicing. Meaning the smell of fresh baked bread fumigates the bakery department. (Still no free cookie for the keiki :p ) This is a great place for the area and maybe a bit more pricey then Foodland but cheaper then Whole foods. And sign up for their club card. It's good at all 1300+ stores including all Vons and Albertsens. Overall four stars. I just don't like the parking area. I just KILLED a pound of salt and vinegar wings. Maybe the chicken wing gods were looking over me but the pan of wings was full and fresh. It was a long day of teaching little humans and I just needed a win (sad I know). When I got home they were crispy and so perfectly salted and vinegar-ed (haha). Five stars for the deli area. They have sandwiches made - get the one with the PRETZEL BUN. They even have pizza dough out for you to make your own pizza at home. Sometimes if it isn't out, you can ask the people behind the counter and they'll be able to look in the fridge for availability. I've also dog fresh slices of deli meat no problem. Five stars for the BOGO chicken quarters and thighs. Get the app to earn points and catch deals. Anything helps! Sometimes there random deals are great too. Safeway Waikele's bakery has a great selection of cakes. I came in to see what selections they had already made on the day of my sons birthday, chose a Mickey cake and the lady was able to put it on hold while we finished his birthday celebration. I told her the time I would be back and it was still there. I paid and left. I love the cakes at Safeway. It's cute, decor and design is fancy and it tastes very delicious. I highly recommend pre-ordering a cake if you want a specific character and to see if they have the cake accessories available instead of walking in on the day of like me. read more

Kinda weird to say but I thoroughly enjoy marketing at this Safeway in Waikele. Why? It seems larger than the one in Mililani. We've come pretty regularly since the pandemic and it's great. There is hand sanitizer at the entrance. There is no line waiting to enter. The aisles seem wide, the store always seems bright and clean. The florist section is always decked out for the season or upcoming holiday as well as the entire store. Have bought pastrami from their deli shaved to your desired thickness. Always look at their colorful bakery creations. I have an obsession with their $3.99 tiny square of chocolate cake for one. I grew up with the original Liliha Bakery chocolate cake for birthdays and Girls Day. For some reason this is comfort "food" for my soul. It's not fancy but I like the thin layer of frosting on the top and in the middle. If someone bought this for me once a week I'd be simply happy. Their beer and liquor display is lovely. We bypass their meats and head to the back right of the store. There are directional arrows for the foot traffic. To me they have more variety of Chobani Flipz( yogurt). This row also has the sausages and more. We meander up and down all the aisles and hit the produce aisle last. Sometimes we'll pick up tofu or kim chee here. Further down they have some produce and fruits but not as extensive as another market I frequent. I LOVE that it is not crowded, it feels safe and spacious. The shelves are well stocked. After we leave Safeway there is a row of food trucks to the left so we can pick up Malasadas or Lechon or Hawaiian food before heading home. Happy holidays! Stopped at Safeway today to get some lunch meat and the woman who waited on me I've never seen in the deli section. Told her multiple times what I wanted and how much of lunch meat and cheese. If you're going to hire these people from other countries they need to understand the English language also when she sliced the lunch meat and cheese she was not wearing gloves, handling it with bare hands. Who knows what she was doing before waiting on me. I should report this to the state. Hope I don't get sick. I know people from other countries don't have the same guidelines as we do in the USA but if they want to work here in the food service industry they need to follow the rules, no exceptions. read more

Finally got to check out the Safeway in Waikele pretty new store and very clean and nice . They have a area that they sell the sushi and hot food station like all other Safeway . It's called The Cafe very nice and lots of hot food item to choose from . Their refrigeration aisle is wide and nicely lighted not as much as the Beretania Safeway . There practicing social distancing with big stickers on the floor showing customers one way traffic but of course no one follows them . Lots of parking shares with other stores such as Lowes, and Old Navy. Be safe and wear your mask read more

Hubby and I occasionally shop here. This location is amazing and has better selection. The store is clean and items are easy to find. We scored on a lot of $5 groceries on a Friday. It's better to come early than later because most items tend to be gone. We picked up some blueberry bagels, bananas, toilet paper and doughnuts. It was cool to see what they had on sale. Checking out was easy at the self checkout. There's a lady that helps you with the machine if it goes wrong. That's always good that someone is there to help if the scanner is messing up on the price. Plenty of carts outside. I highly recommend this location. There's plenty of parking up front. read more

Super huge and modern Safeway in the same shopping complex where the old Sack and Save was located a few parking lots away. Sack and Save closed down as business was probably bad in this location since the other Sack and Save location by the stadium lasted for years. I'm speculating that Sack and Save had some fierce competition from Costco Waipio and Sam's Club a few miles away, and that's why they folded. I hope this Safeway doesn't run into the same problem because I'm impressed by the sheer and vast selections of everything. I don't think I've ever been a grocery store with almost an entire cooler section with nothing but fancy yogurts and some that I've never even heard about. I was super impressed that they sold Roku Gin from Japan (and I don't even drink gin). Being in this store really feels like you are in a mega grocery store somewhere on the mainland. Love the specialty shop themes inside his Safeway, and the olive bar that Safeway Ewa Beach discontinued. Hope they can keep their olive bar going. Help me keep the olive bar alive by purchasing some of their delicious olives. I was also impressed by the seating and eating area; they even provide paper towels, hand sanitizer (soon to be stolen, they need to chain it down) and plastic utensils (probably will be stolen too). I am thinking this is "grand opening" perk and after stuff gets stolen, they will stop replenishing all those nice things for people to use. This location may be prosperous since Castle and Cook are planning on adding another several thousands of homes and probably half-a million more commuters to the Waipio area across from Costco (thanks for clogging up the freeways even more, Castle). Those that are fed up with Costco's traffic and congestion in and out of the store may decide just to drive a little further down the road to this location, or to the other Safeway in Mililani, probably equally in distance. After I do my plant shopping/plant raid at Lowe's next door I can stop by here to pick up my wine, olives from the olive bar, French bread and some fancy cheeses and have a picnic with my buddies Podocarpus Gracilis and Tacca Chantrieri. As a regular customer of this Safeway, I visit probably 3 or more times per week. The store is very well stocked and offers a lot of variety and hard to find items. The gentlemen in the produce department are always helpful and will make sure you find what you need. The bakery is excellent and has beautiful cakes, pies and desserts - very tempting. The issues I've had are with the cashiers on the registers near the far left, facing the doors. Yesterday, my cashier was busy chit-chatting with the cashier on the next register who was mesmerized by the fact that an item was 50% off. Her name is on the receipt but I don't want to publicly shame her, and I'm pretty sure it could be figured out if needed by mgmt. Anyway, she loudly discussed (shouting past me) the intricate details of the discount with the other cashier, and was actively engaged on training her on how to handle whatever the issue was, and hardly seemed to notice that she was also ringing up my order. I had goose bumps from her commanding presence and authority. So, during their discussion, as a customer, I know they always ask if I'd like to purchase a .15 cent paper bag, so I thought I'd get that out of the way and in between her rapid fire yacking with her coworker, I blurted out "and a bag." Predictably, she asked me if I wanted to purchase a bag anyway after ringing up the last item, confirming that she was hardly aware of my presence. After grabbing my .15 cent bag full of groceries and heading towards the door, I looked back and my cashier was leaving her register like a storm trooper on a mission, and the next customer, to further discuss 50% discount dilemma with the other cashier. I pitied that poor customer, who probably had to endure the same torment. Not to mention, the customers who had to watch this on the other cashier's register. As a retiree, I've learned to be patient with busy people and feel that I have all the time in the world, but was somehow entertained and mesmerized by the obnoxious ignoring and lack of awareness, and just wanted to see how ridiculous it would get, and I wasn't disappointed. This sort of thing has happened before with other cashiers on that end of the registers, at least twice. I realize that the customer is not the center of the universe and employees are people too, and have real-world challenges that can be distracting, but I felt this could've been handled differently. My wife was less patient that I, but bit her tongue and we exited the store safely :). The cashiers on the self-checkout have always been awesome. It's puzzling to me why this problem persists since the store opened. The cashiers tend to spend a lot of time talking story with customers and going overboard with advice on coupons, discounts and such. I just want to pay for my purchase and so home. Maybe the trainers that train the cashiers need training? Or, have a assistant nearby to answer customer questions? I don't know. I still love this store because of the other stuff mentioned and the convenience, but wow! read more
