Back before Landmark Insurance merged with Saginaw Bay Underwriters, service was great. My agent always called me and suggested my best options. After the merger, I can never find an agent that is willing to spend more than two minutes to answer my questions...I don't even know who my agent is anymore. Every time I call it's someone new. Anyways I called to review my insurance options and get updated quotes. I was told it would be 10 days to get quotes. Really, it takes 10 days to run quotes on a computer where you already have all my information? Well, it has been weeks now and I never heard back from anyone. No worries, you can expect another call from me later today.... to tell you I am moving all my policies to another agency! I loved Landmark Insurance and have been a long term customer. Since the merger, their service sucks! If you are looking for insurance products, don't shop here! read more

Was a customer of SBU for 15 or so years. Always paid premiums in full on time, 1 not at fault claim. WIth the insurance changes regarding Catastrophic claims premiums and anticipated reduction of that stupid assessment in mind, I anticipated substantial savings. WRONG!!! My premiums went up 30%. Several calls and emails later, and promises to follow up (Jeff was one on them). I got some lame excuse and a ridiculous explanation which was purely Bullsh**. Cancelled my business with them and got better rates, better coverage from a local State Farm agent. SBU is a poor representation of professionalism. read more

We had been customers of Saginaw Bay Underwriters ,representing Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance Company for five years. We were cancelled for non-payment. We went in to discuss our situation, we were seated at a table in a large room full of cubicles. Our representative went over to the other side of the room to speak to a female employee, she spoke so loudly that the entire room full of customers and workers heard our private information as she and our representative were discussing our policy. We had taken in an envelope with our renewal information which included our new proof of insurance papers, this female employee removed these papers without our knowledge and consent when she had this envelope at her desk. We now needed proof of coverage in order to secure other insurance and since Saginaw Bay Underwriters removed our personal property without our consent, I had to return today to try to get a copy of the papers. I was helped by the receptionist and asked to take a seat. As I was sitting in the waiting area I heard the same loud female voice again from the back of the room. She was speaking about someone elses policy. She spoke loud enough that I heard this persons first and last name, address and policy number as well as he was also late on his payments. I mentioned to the receptionist of my experience, and that I was now listening to other peoples private information because she spoke so loud. She nodded and said nothing more. An employee came out and handed me a piece of paper with the incorrect cancellation date on it. I asked her to please double check. As she went into the back area, I again heard this loud voice bellowing out my personal information. The woman who I had been listening to suddenly appeared, her name was Donna. Donna was very unprofessional, disrespectful and downright rude to me. I questioned her as to why she had to write in pen at the bottom of the paper the date of cancellation. Her first answer was "So that you are aware of what date you were cancelled." I told her that I was well aware of the date. She then proceeded to tell me that it was their method of keeping track. I again told her this made no sense. She then got irate with me and told me that "This is just the way we do things around here." It was not only the words, it was how they were spoken so sarcastically along with a look of displeasure at having to speak to me one minute longer. I came home and phoned the head office to voice my complaints. I also requested that I get another paper withouth the handwriting at the bottom. I explained it was my decision to inform anyone I may share this with that it was cancelled. The woman I spoke to agreed that this was not the normal way to handle things, but that she would get back to us after contacting our local office. The return phone call was not made to me, because all of the sudden I was not an authorized person to speak to on the account, yet they had no problems giving me the papers I asked for in office without identification. Their final answer... Oh well. Think twice about doing business with and insurance agency that does not respect or value your privacy, nor do they have any respect for former customers. What an excellent insurance agency this is!!! I have been a customer for 30 years and have always had great service! I can't complain at all. I have had large claims and not so large claims and either way I get the same great service. I know that any agent can help me but I must admit that my favorite is Mary. One call and I all set. Trust me,if I didn't like them I wouldn'tbe writing this,furthermore I wouldn't be insured with them!! read more

The rep I dealt with was fine at first. However, when I received a bill for an outrageous amount and tried to figure out what had happened, he became argumentative and rude. He even left me a message saying that he'd "done his part and that he didn't know why I was being billed, AND that I could handle the matter myself from then on." When I wanted to speak to his supervisor, I was not allowed. In the end I had to deal directly with the billing department and send them proof that I'd never had a gap in insurance coverage in my ENTIRE DRIVING HISTORY. I supplied that information and finally received a refund check a whole 3 months later. I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more
