Excellent food and friendly staff. The grilled pork in my banh mi is some of the best I've had. Tasted like candy. Pho and vermicelli dishes were great too. They are closed a lot it seems but if you catch them when they're open, their food is outstanding! I still prefer Golden Deli for their egg rolls but this place is the best in the Monrovia area. This was a nice surprise We've lived in the area for many years and have our regular spots. This particular evening we decided to try a new restaurant. It's very tiny but in a good way. The last time we were here this was a French restaurant. The anticipation was exciting. We didn't know what to expect. We tried 3 different items: the classic Vietnamese sandwich, the beef stew, and fried tofu. All 3 of the items were great. Last night we went back for the 2nd time and this time I decided I would just start at the top of the menu and work my way down every time we visit. My BF had the pho and I had #1. I've never been to a pho restaurant that was so stingy with their portions for pricing that is 25-30% higher than neighboring places. I expected the taste to be there, but it was quite abysmal. Spring rolls arrived, already broken, watered down hoisin sauce. I had to eat it with chopsticks picking at it. The soup, average. The noodles, overcooked. The meat, 4 pieces. Less than half of what we usually get at 15 bucks plus tax. It's more expensive than the large sizes from other places. I bet a lot of these other 5 stars are fake and/or paid for. There's no way this restaurant should be anything above 2 stars. And that's being generous. read more

This is my go-to place for pho! A classic in my neighborhood- I love to walk here to pick up takeout. I always order the pho filet mignon and the broth is always very flavorful. The service is excellent, and my to-go orders are always ready very quickly, between 10-15 minutes. read more

Finally got to try Saigon Avenue after having it on my bookmarks for a while! My only regret is that I waited so long!! I really enjoyed my experience there ... with the exception of their Thai Tea, which wasn't sweet enough for my taste. What I tried: - Shrimp Rolls: If you can get past the slightly inappropriate look of these rolls, they actually taste quite good, and are super filling. The sauce they come with is sweet and delicious. - House Special: Shaking beef filet! Whatever sauce they put on this thing is pure bliss ... sweet and smokey and absolutely delicious ... plus they serve a great pepper/lemon sauce with the rice that i like so much I had to get seconds! - Pork Trio: Not sure why it has this name, since it has shrimp in it too, but i'm not splitting hairs. The pork was really tasty and the noodles were well cooked. A nice overall dish! - Beef pho: Nothing extraordinary about this pho, but good quality meat and a proper execution. This place understands flavor. They elevate it to the next level by grilling their BBQ. You can taste the smokiness, for example in their grilled shrimp spring roll, you taste the char. The pho was also amazing. Ordered via food app, usually I have to reheat the broth but it was piping hot and the noodles were kept separate on arrival. Great al dente texture and of course got all the fixings with basil, thinly sliced onion with cilantro, lime and sprouts. I saved the leftover broth which I'll use to make Ramen instead of water. read more

Our "Go to" place when craving for Vietnamese cuisine. This is a family owned & operated restaurant. Food is home-cooked quality, so delicious and authentic. Owners are very friendly. I remember one time, my husband liked the wine and was praising it with the owner and all of a sudden, she got the whole bottle of that riesling wine and said "here take it home". Well, I had pretty good pho here-- it was a large bowl with a hint of cinnamon in the broth for $8. Not too bad for Monrovia prices. We also got a free appetizer (egg roll or spring roll) and soft drink for the soft opening. All of this was cool and considering it was soft opening, there were some not too cool parts. I got the egg roll, which had an interesting rice paper layer of sorts and it was pretty good. I wish I had more but I love egg rolls. My coworkers got the Pork Chop Rice and Beef Stew with French Roll-- both came out in these huge plates and I was able to try a bit. My friend's Pork Chop Rice was not bad, but was quite salty in some areas. The Beef Stew was a huge plate but that was even more salty. I could understand why it was barely touched. My friend really hated the place, saying their Pork Chop Rice was not even right as it was more salty than sweet compared to other places she's been to with her husband who is Vietnamese. While I did agree that I've had better pho elsewhere, my bowl of pho was pretty good. Beef balls were ok and they were skimpy on the bean sprouts, but eh. The not cool part about the pho was that I was thirsty for several hours later. While our waitress was nice, she was very distracted. She was on the phone trying to figure out the Grand Opening banner and working on her laptop and was not paying attention to us when we wanted to give her the bill or when another man wanted to order. The food took a while to come out as they wait for everyone's food, because a few single diners got their pho very quickly. Who I assume to be the cooks were possibly her parents-- very cute mom and dad bringing the food out. Just take it easy on the salt, give more bean sprouts with the pho, focus on your customer and you're set. Monrovia has its own new good pho spot now. Sadly for the old pho spot, right across the street from it! I missed all the pre-opening fun when they were doing free tastings and such, and we came in as regular customers who wanted some hot Vietnamese goodness on a chilly 60 (sixty!!!) degree Californian afternoon. Pho. Was. Good. The rare beef especially. Portions are large, I didn't finish mine. For some reason, they didn't have chicken pho on the menu, but they did accommodate us and just added chicken instead of beef. They also charged us $1.00 extra for it, which I thought should go other way, but never mind. They also have Vietnamese coffee, which I recommend you try. I'm not sure how this place has 4.5 stars when compared to all the other pho places in SGV close by (golden deli, pho super bowl, etc), maybe Monrovia's standards for pho is lower? We got a Pho Rare Steak and a Beef Stew with an egg roll. Pho Rare Steak - this came in two containers, one with noodles and onions, another with soup and the meat. The meat was already over cooked by the time we could dig in. The soup was pretty flavorful, but the noodles definitely had a strange feeling to them. Beef Stew - with 4 chucks of dry beef and maybe 3-4 pieces of carrot, this one was disappointing. The broth was pretty good though to mix with rice, but other than that... the rest was almost inedible. Growing up eating Vietnamese food, I am really glad I found Pho Saigon Ave .They offer authentic Vietnamese food and the flavors remind me of my family's cooking. We ordered oxtail pho. It came with savory, aromatic broth. Noodle was perfect, not too soft, broken or stick together like other places make it. My gf loves the tofu appetizer. It must be a tough time for them during this pandemic but I hope they will make it through. Meanwhile, I will continue to order from them and show support because they deserve it! read more

I ordered lunch from my company stipend today and I picked this restaurant because they have so many options and the food looks great. I was opting for some fillet mignon banh mi because I love banh mi and fillet mignon just gonna be the icing on the cake. However I changed my mind and order the bò lúc lắc fillet mignon because I haven't had the dish in a while. And let me tell you! The dish was EXCELLENT!!! Omg it was full of flavors! The beef was tender, the vegetable were crunchy and the sauce was just so scrumptious. This dish truly blew my mind! I'm not exactly the biggest fan of this dish but this restaurant made it so good that I have to write this review! This might have been the best bo luc lắc I've ever had!!! I was really craving pho after having a bad head cold for a few days. Hopped on Yelp to see what my options were. There were lots of spots far away in the SGV, but this little mom and pop shop in Old Town Monrovia caught my eye with 4.5 stars and rave reviews about the pho. Decided to pop in and see what all the fuss was about. The three of us came in around 6 PM on a Sunday night. The restaurant is small, but there were plenty of tables open, and we were told to sit anywhere. I chose the pho trio which comes with rare steak, flank, and brisket for $8.99. Super reasonably-priced. My dad got the chicken pho and my mom got the shrimp pho, which came in beef broth with the respective meats. Our soups came out very hot and smelled incredible--the taste was even better. They also came out promptly; we only were waiting maybe 5 minutes after we ordered. I was so impressed by the delicious flavor, and the broth was not too salty. I didn't even need to add condiments, though of course I did because they brought a large amount of basil, lime, bean sprouts, and jalapeno to add. But the flavor was very impressive just on its own. They also had full containers of sriracha and hoisin sauce on the side to add for additional flavor. I gobbled most of my soup up, even though the serving was huge, and it was just what I needed to beat my blah sickness feeling. The staff are also so nice and friendly. Great pho, great prices! The food here tastes as authentic as I've tried in SoCal. For the first visit, I tried the combo pho which came with the brisket, rare beef, tripe, AND meatballs. I always have a hard time choosing between an all meatball choice and the combo (which I've never seen come with meatballs, so yay for Saigon Ave). The place doesn't fit very many so it can get busy. The high ratings have zero justification. The grilled pork chop was tough and dry, like leather. Kind of a SCAM that they use many different names on Delivery services such as It's Pho Girls, Vietnamese Vibes, Saigon Empire, etc. The place across the street is much better for pho. On my takeout order, they also forgot items and I didn't realize until I was home because they package everything so tight and everything is wrapped up. I enjoyed my meal here. I had a vermicelli noodle bowl with grilled pork and egg roll, as well as a filet mignon sandwich with added egg. The filet mignon sandwich was my favorite dish. The bread is is soft with a light crunch on the outside, not overly tough like other places. The sauce is really tasty, almost like someone took meat out of a stew and put it in the sandwich. The added egg was a nice touch and fried perfectly. A nice twist to traditional Vietnamese sandwiches -- which they also have on the menu. The vermicelli noodle bowl was good, but not particularly unique. That said, the ingredients were pretty fresh and I do like the fact that there are mint leaves included, as that gives the dish a more complex flavor. Service was great and staff all seemed really friendly. I will return for sure. I want to get the sandwich again and try the pho. read more

Despite all the rave reviews here, our experience here was anything but fantastic. Where do I even start? For one, this replaced our favorite French restaurant which went belly-up sometime in 2015. So we were craving Vietnamese food one night and decided to give this place a try and hoping that they didn't butcher what the previous owners left behind. I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 15, 20, 25, even 30? minutes to get a simple bowl of pho. And when it finally came out, we were quite disappointed. They shortchanged us on the tripe and meat in general, and the broth was just meh. The kicker was when some dry rice noodle dish my girlfriend's mother ordered made them both feel sick. And to make matters worse, there was a screaming kid in the next table over who wouldn't STFU and the parentals were just acting like nothing happened. And even after we complained to the wait staff, they just brushed it off (I presume those folks were regulars who were buddy-buddy with the staff). Ugh. My Chinese parents would have slapped me for throwing such a tantrum like that. Two things to take away here - 1. The restaurant needs to improve its efficiency and not be so stingy with the meat on the pho - I understand that demographically the area isn't very Vietnamese but it still doesn't mean you can cut corners because you never know if the next Jonathan Gold could walk in and give you a scathing takedown, and 2. Dear parents, especially you snowflake millennial parents: Teach your kids discipline (preferably the Asian way) so that they don't grow up to be spoiled, entitled, self-centered brats who end up having to be society's burden by them going totally apesh*t and harming others because someone said 'no' to them. All in all, I think it probably was a much better idea to go to the Pho Ha on Huntington, which is sort of the borderline Panda-Express for Vietnamese food. Bleh. read more

Stopped by Saigon Avenue for lunch - small restaurant with only about 8-10 tables. It was a warm day when we came by and it was an uncomfortable temperature inside the restaurant. Not sure if they had the A/C turned on low or just not on at all. Pho Supreme ($9.99): beef ball, rare steak, brisket, flank and tripe in a beef broth served with rice noodles. Very subpar. Filet Mignon Shaking Beef ($13.99): Cubed filet mignon stir fried with onions, cilantro and bell peppers served with a side of steamed white rice. The filet mignon was cooked well but the sauce was overpowered by all the oil the dish was fried in. A different take on filet mignon than I have normally seen - interesting, but not my favorite. Overall, prices are steep for mediocre food compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. I would go elsewhere. read more

There's a small parking in the lot and plenty of street parking. Since this restaurant is in Old Town Monrovia, the overall price of the menu was a little pricier compared to local pho joints. Saigon Avenue gives a really generous portion of bean sprouts, basil and jalapeños. I ordered a Pho with rare steak and brisket. The broth tastes pretty good, it was light and not too salty and oily. Hence when I added jalapenos, it was the perfect amount of spice! The noodles were nice and chewy. However, I felt like they skimped on the meat.
