It only took two services for me to realize this is where I need to be…read more The praise and worship is moving, the word always seems to be on point, they have a mix of younger with the older and families, are actively involved in a global and community way, and have various groups and events for you to get involved in. I always feel warmly welcomed when I come, and the Pastors always make time to speak with members after service. Having 3 different services is a plus too, and I haven't had any issues finding parking on the street. There's free coffee and snake before and after service, and an overflow area outside the sanctuary for watching services as well. Next Saturday is their Do Good Global Meal Pack, where we'll be packing 275,000 to send to children in the Dominican Republic along with Kids Around the World.

On a side note regarding the post on Chinese New years, all the Christians I know in China and Taiwan celebrate Chinese New Years because it's a time to connect with family and friends and to share and tell them how much you love them. It's not easy being Christian in China and some of them have given up professions, suffered persecution, and are barely scrapping by, but they celebrate Chinese New Years....maybe differently from others....like with prayer and church services along with visiting family, feeding and helping the poor and witnessing to them. Chinese Christians definitely celebrate and share Christ's love during the two week national celebration!

Every person I spoke to demonstrated love and concern for me and my wellbeing. They sang four songs right from the hymnal, and they were all classics! This church reminded me of the assembly we attended when I was young. The pastor was as sincere as possible. He spoke eloquently and tailored his sermon to the times at hand. In short, he was relevant. The service lasted roughly 90 minutes. And, if you're an introvert, now is the time to join! You won't be accosted by the greeter, or put on display for all to see (and greet)!

So we were dreading having to start that process all over again when we moved to Rockville. After a year and a half of sporadically checking out at least 7 different churches in Maryland, we heard about GCCC expanding to Tysons. Initially, we thought it would be too far since we're coming from around Shady Grove Hospital. But taking into account the lack of traffic on Sunday mornings, it only takes us about 20-25 minutes. Why was it so difficult for us to decide on a church? My husband is a non-believer who's curious to learn more about Christianity. We needed Pastors that we can relate to, connect with, be inspired by, and most importantly, be people who would make us WANT to go to church and listen to them every...single...Sunday. Pastor Steve, Pastor Sam, and Pastor Phillip are all quirky, funny, and relatable in their own ways. They have been so welcoming to all the newcomers to the Tysons location and you can really see the heart that they have for God, His people, and the mission of the church. We have 3 young kids (age 5 and under) so we needed a great children's program for each of their age groups. Believe me, there isn't a shortage of kids at this church. But despite the volume and what I would have expected to be complete chaos, the Children's Ministry has everything under control. Security is very important to them and they have a great system in place where every child is accounted for and no child would be released to someone who shouldn't be picking them up. My two older ones will have their days of not wanting to be separated from Mom and Dad, but they come out of their classrooms every Sunday with a big smile and so excited to share with us what they did in class that day. It's exciting to see that our kids would be growing up and becoming (hopefully) lifelong friends with the kids in their classes. My husband and I wanted to meet people who are in the same life stage as we are, families trying to survive the early years of child-rearing, and we have met so many great families with kids the same age as ours. But I realized that it's important to get to know the other folks with older kids too (they will be our mentors on how to handle and teach our kids as they grow older) as well as the younger/single folks (who plan fun activities outside of church where we can pretend we're young again.) I've never been apart of a church where there are so many official and unofficial events for people to bond outside of church. I can see that this is a place where your friends become your family, and we want to be a part of that. Now that we have become regular attenders, we are really enjoying getting to know everyone on a deeper level and opening our palates up to all the different restaurants in VA that we Marylanders never venture out to try! And I know we'll never have to dine alone because the people at this church love to eat!

I think that helps to enfold new comers. There's really no "old timers", so everyone feels like they can fit right in even though they just moved to the area. 2. There's strong ownership of the church by the members and regular attenders. The standard 80/20 rule doesn't apply. More than 50 percent are involved in some sort of ministry... And many in multiple ministries. 3. The leadership truly demonstrate humble servanthood. You will see them in serving in children ministry, moving equipment, setting up each service week and week out ... 4. The church still feels 'small' and where newcomers can still find space and place. 5. There are strong desire and practice to serve the community... 6. Of course, there are plenty of fun folks!

My advice is that they should provide wake up calls... "Wake Up the Vote!" You heard it here first! The paper ballot was fun because you have to recall how to stay within the peanuts with your #2 pencil. Also, make sure to get your "I Voted" sticker so you can get free stuff all day (thanks to Katey for her thread).

The church as a whole is great for everyone. If you're worried about a church conflicting with your specific political views or something like that, this isn't a church preaching politics, fire and brimstone. This church focuses on the positive,love and community. The gathering leaves room for lots of conversation and meeting qood quality people. I love that its not mega-church-y but is large enough to have such a large community of people of diverse ages and backgrounds. Stephen Taylor the Community Ministry Coordinator is very good at relating his messages about todays times and how to apply to apply them to our every day lives. He is even nice enough to remind us about upcoming events via email. I am becoming to a regular to the yoga class the church hosts on Monday evenings. Their yoga class has helped me physically,emotionally and spiritually. All and all I am extremely lucky this church has come into my life. I hope other people can experience from this divine gift as I have.

They are a great group of folks who, from what I could tell, are multi-generational in make-up and progressive in politics and theology. They have a beautiful sanctuary and a newly redone space so the building feels loved. It is clear that they are not just about the building as many of the folks talked about their connections and service to the community as well. If you are in Arlington and want a great family-style church, check them out! Disclaimer: I give every church a five just because not every church is perfect but it is a five to someone AND I will never review a church that I wouldn't try myself if I were looking. No need to bad mouth freaky churches because they are uh, well, freaky.

Unfortunately, we had to remove the Little Food Pantry a while ago because people were opening food and leaving it all about potentially attracting rodents and at any rate creating an unsightly mess. I work at our food pantry frequently and have never seen unhoused people who are unpleasant to visitors. We have a new priest-in-charge who is wonderful as one our last priest. Highly recommend this church. All of the staff are wonderful as is the congregation.

The homeless men they let live on their porch likes to verbally assault patrons. Instead of dealing with the main issue and problem (the homeless men living on their property harassing people) they decided to remove services such as the community pantry box and book box that was helping many people get buy especially those who had lost their jobs. The pantry box served many people in the community when anything was placed in it it was usually gone within a hour. Now no one gets to eat because of 1. Lastly I would not call this a "bible based church". They do not follow scripture. I'm really disappointed in this "church".
