I went to Rakis…read moreand had a long consultation with the staff about exactly what I was wanting to achieve and had pictures to show them and was assured that it could be done. I'd just had my hair already ruined by others so was already stressed about my hair which they knew about and bagged out the work I had done before and were adamant that they would get me to what I wanted and that it would be easy. I was so excited to go in for my Thursday night appointment to get my hair back to what it looked like! Well that's where the excitement ended! I was there for well over three hours and my lovely blonde colour I had all disappeared and I was left brown with some blonde foils! What I was wanting was balayage with blonde also fanning around the front of my face with a good root stretch. I actually cried in the chair it was so far away from what was discussed. So again I was not listened to! Too add insult to serious injury I was quoted $345 at the initial consultation. I was approached with a $505 bill before my service was over as they wanted to close off the register as it was nearing 9pm (I had been there since 5:15pm) I said "wait this is slots $200 more than I was quoted!! They went and worked it out. Came back and said they would charge me my quoted price but basically I should have been great full I was only being charged that as I did receive a "full service"... like what the actual F!! Your staff were the ones who did the consultation and quoted me the initial price!! Why the F should I be doing a backflip for not being charged an extra $160 than I was quoted?? It was so condescending. I spoke to them the next day and was offered my full money back however they asked for a chance to fix it. I wish I had of taken my money and gone elsewhere!! Isn't hindsight wonderful! I went back in on the Saturday morning. Again showing pictures and explaining what I wanted.. well this time I turned out pretty much all blonde!!!! Still no balayage at all!! I left further messages with comparison pictures.. the owner Stavros phoned me. Well what a delight! I was repeatedly insulted.. he wanted to see my hair so I went in Friday after work. He accused me of pulling my hair back so it looked more blonde in the pictures and as he said that he flicked my hair roughly over my head.. said if I didn't want foils why didn't I say something to them when it was getting done, that the picture I showed them the girl has thick hair and mines not that thick.. like I know that buddy but the way it's done can be done on my hair!! When I got upset he asked me why I was getting so upset "it's just hair" um your WHOLE BUSINESS IS BASED ON HAIR!!!! You charge men and women a fortune to get their hair done yet you can't even do it right! Apparently also I'm the first time they have ever had someone complain! I wish I had of checked the reviews prior to going in!! I will never walk in there ever again!! They are refusing to refund me as they have provided the service!!! I'm so so mad! Not only was this costly, time consuming and hair damaging, I was insulted and still do not have what I went in there for! Next step is consumer affairs! Thanks for nothing Rakis!!

It's also one of those situations where you really want a solid recommendation before attempting to venture in, so I will attempt to cover all the questions I asked before trying them out. Was I happy with my haircut? Yes. I was nervous at first because my fringe was a bit shorter than what I'm used to, but had a lot of people comment that they liked it better and it has worn really well post-cut. To the point where I'm using my hair straightener maybe a third of what I normally do, a nice bonus for my poor dry hair. They use Shu Uemera products which are way out of my price range ordinarily so it was also a nice treat to have them used on my hair. The colour looks natural, healthy and lovely. The staff are so sweet and lovely. Beautifully polite and gentle, they really set the calm vibe for the business. Some hairdressing salons are loud and buzzy full of gossip and giggling. This is a place you come for total peace and quiet. Price wise? Same as what I am used to paying elsewhere, so I guess it depends on what your standard is to whether or not you'll scoff at the prices. If you're used to Melbourne CBD prices I don't think you'll leave in shock. The products however are around $70-$80 for shampoo, even up to $50 for hair spray, so do check before getting carried away and ordering a bunch of goodies on the way out.

None of this, "it's a flowery 90s Laura Ashley number and we know how the 90s is back in fashion so we'll up the price tag", it's still, "It's a secondhand dress that smells a bit and has yellowing patches at the underarm region so lets get rid of it for less than $10". That's how it should be. I don't want to rummage through an overstuffed clothes rack where none of the hangers match and most of the items are total rubbish, only to find the one thing of any value to me and have to pay full whack for it. Given the highly convenient location of Don Bosco, it tends to get picked over pretty heavily, so the really great finds are less frequent than at some of the more out of the way joints. Nonetheless, the prices tend to be slightly lower than at Savers down the road (though not always), and it's good for the suits, ties and ladies' nightwear from bygone eras. The odd board game also tends to surface every now and then.

The shop itself is more a cubic glass shelf with a customer service assistant inside the cube. Perfumes line the shelves and the shelves are very crowded. If you are after something specific I would recommend asking the service girl for help rather than painstakingly crouch low to the floor to cover the bottom shelves. I find the location of the store quite irritating. Trying to have a look at what is on the shelves is difficult when a mother with a pram and three kids under five pass by and the pram rolls over your foot. The walkway in the centre is also very noisy and it is hard to concentrate.
