Its stylistic characteristics evoke the French Renaissance Hôtel de Ville, Paris, with an elaborate interior decorated with marble and gold trim. St. Louis City Hall. This has to be the largest money pit in the state. Somehow our real estate taxes keep going up 20% while schools keep shutting down so make that make sense. Half our real estate taxes are supposed to go to schools. Also, can you spring for a power washer? Power wash that damn building. It's got mold growing on it. The city government and city hall has yet to instill any confidence in taxpayers. read more

I have always had a love/hate relationship with our City Hall. Sometimes the apathy of the employees is palpable...but lately this has not been my experience. First, I had a zoning issue with my new home that needed to be addressed and thought for sure I was going to get absolutely nowhere with it. Mr. Rowland in appraisals responded to my phone call in less than 24 hours and was both patient and kind as he explained how the zoning changes with my house would affect future taxes. At one point I misunderstood what he was telling me and I started to wind up a little, but his calm demeanor never changed. His professionalism was outstanding. Secondly, Chris Nafziger with Cultural Resources helped me through the process of getting a permit for work on my historic home so smoothly, I thought I was dreaming! Two positive experiences in a row at St. Louis City Hall?? Yes, it's possible! Thank you both for being great reps for the city. You guys give me hope for the future. :) read more

This review is specifically for going to the Assessor's Office. I needed to get a tax waiver for a car recently and was trying to figure out the process during the pandemic, so I just wanted to share my experience and hopefully it'll help someone else out. 1. I would recommend joining the virtual lobby. There's a link at the Assessor's website. The virtual lobby starts taking check-ins at 6am, but the Assessor's office actually opens at 8am. There's a link after you check in that shows your place in line. When you have been called, you will get a text saying you have 20 mins to get to the Assessor's office. So feel free to wait in your car if you'd like. If you really want to go in, there is some seating inside city hall in front of the Assessor's office. 2. When your name is "called" or you receive a text, check in with the person right outside the Assessor's office. Do not go in the double doors until you are told to, or you will get told to stay outside until your name is called. 3. When you are directed inside, there are two seats that you will sit in and wait for to be called. A few things I noticed, I was first in line in the virtual lobby. I was also first in line in city hall. After I got out, which was probably about 8:40am, there was no line at all. So I'm not sure if I really needed to wake up at 6am to be first in the virtual lobby, then get to city hall early to also be first in the line indoors. I was just concerned it was going to be super busy. A little tip that was super helpful in my situation, where I was getting a tax waiver for a relative. Since my relative is older, I had a letter typed up that had their names and what I was getting on their behalf and had them sign it. This allowed me to get the tax waiver in place of them, to reduce their risk. Of course during this whole process make sure to WEAR A MASK! read more

What a beautiful historic building right in the down area, near the arch. The interior is spectacular with marble, iron railings a fantastic ceiling. If you enjoy old buildings, don't miss this. This looks like something from Germany or Prague .. not Missouri ... it looks so old. read more

Yes its old, yes parking is like highway robbery, yes its a hassle and home of the cities politicians but City Hall is the historically beautiful structure that represents St. Louis in all its glory. Most importantly its the location where we can get our license plates, pay our excessively high water/trash bills, apply for permits, pay property taxes and get hitched! Issuing parking tickets because there is no one to collect payment at the time one drives in? Was I supposed to stay standing there -- for half the day -- until you decided to start charging drivers parking there for the event at the Scottstrade Center across the street? I will never pay your Unconstitutional ticket. Ever. And I mean ever. I wiped my ass with it long ago. Cheers! Postscript. I know getting your car registered can be a major pain in and extreme frustrating. I have of course have had to get many cars registered and I make sure I do my part by having all of my paperwork in order. Sometimes I run into a problem because of someone else's mishaps, but on several of these occasions I have had the pleasure of having a lady by the name of Misty help me out. Misty is a true angel, no matter how busy this place get and how rude some customers can be Ms. Misty goes above and beyond her duty to make sure you understand everything and if there is something in her power that she can do to get you going she will. She will make phone calls right there and give you all the neccessary info that you need to get your plates or retrieve the information you need. I have been to many Dmv's and Ms. Misty is the Queen of the Dmv, THANK YOU MISTY, WE NEED MORE OF YOU!!!!! SOMEBODY GIVE HER A RAISE AND A PAID VACATION BECAUSE SHE DESERVES IT!!!!! read more
