After 3 years apparently you're discarded and considered a new patient, and every PCP office I called within the Lees Summit and surrounding areas either aren't accepting new patients or they're not scheduling new patient appointments for a minimum of 5-8 months, leaving me without help after severely injuring my back, I was in so much pain, and I needed immediate care, so I made a same day appointment (on a Sunday) at NextCare Urgent Care is Lees Summit (off of McBaine Drive), and they exceeded my expectations in every way. First, you can make an appointment online, and they honor those appointments (no matter how many walk-ins are there before you.) In addition I have received exceptional care. I've been twice in the last 2 weeks, and have had to call in multiple times. They are always quick to respond and incredibly helpful. From the front desk (who is also the R.T./x-ray tech), to the nurse who was so kind, caring and helpful, to the Dr/FNP Thomas Sims, I have received excellent care. I cannot say enough great things about them. If you need immediate care (that doesn't require going to the ER) I encourage you to make an appointment with NextCare Urgent Care in Lee's Summit. You will not be disappointed.

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Mike Ausmus for 30+ years. He was wonderful. Over the…read moreyears, though, St. Luke's primary care became worse and worse. The bureaucracy became impenetrable. Patients could not schedule an appointment without waiting months - even in an emergency or when post-hospitalization checkups where immediately needed. Patients could not call their doctors. The Central Scheduling office that handles all patient communication knows nothing about medical care, always says it will be 5 to 6 months to get an appointment, even in an emergency. And, the Urgent Care office is notoriously horrible; even St. Luke's doctors recommend going elsewhere. Since Mike retired it has become infinitely worse. We received a letter telling us we'd been "reassigned" to another doctor - like cattle. However, that was not true. When we called to make an appointment for an urgent issue, we were told we did not actually have a doctor. We would need to schedule a new patient appointment - 9 months later. I scheduled new patient appointments for each member of our family, and the doctor cancelled some of them and did not show up for the others. It's been a year now, and our children have not seen a doctor. St. Luke's management has lost its way. By putting up all these barriers between patients and doctors, they are effectively committing malpractice. I would strongly recommend choosing another primary care office.

Family Health Specialist is a clean, very modern office and the staff has been naturally friendly and caring. Dr. Bessey listens to my issues and takes action based on what I say and doesn't have his head buried into a laptop like the previous doctor and office I had used. At that time, I explained that I was having gastrointestinal issues since November 2025 that was not improving. A colonoscopy request was submitted and scheduled for September 25, 2026. On August 25, 2026, I left a message requesting an appointment as my stomach pain had sharply increased. I called back on August 26, 2026 and was told the next available appointment was October 2026. I called back and asked if anyone could see me sooner, if there was a cancellation list,I could be on as I was unable to eat due to severe nausea and had lost 8 pounds since Monday. I was told no one could see me until October. On August 27, 2026, I was admitted into hospital through the emergency department at Lees Summit Medical Center. Before being discharged from the hospital, I requested help with a follow-up appointment. The case worker was able to make an appointment for September 8, 2026 at 10:30 am with Dr Beck. I arrived at my appointment with Dr Beck on September 8th at 9:45 am for my 10:30 am appointment. I waited in an empty waiting room until 11:01 am. At no time was I given any reason why I continued to wait 30 minutes after my appointment. I left without any medical follow-up. So if you want zero medical help so you have to go to emergency room - this is your practice !

I check in and the lady wouldn't even look at me, said name, dob, sit down over there. then I didn't have insurance so the bleach blonde director came out and was all uppity with me and said I would have to pay $1000 first before any X-rays would be done. she wouldn't let me pay later that afternoon, I'm like well I don't have it on me and she said well you won't be able to get your test done. so I called diagnostic imaging and they were just awesome! I went the next day and only paid $90.75 f both of xrays. very courteous and nice. I won't be going back to Lee summ medical for anything again!!
