My favorite Sushi House! Tony is most personable, food is top notch, a little warm saki and it's a great time out!!!

My wife and I just took my parents here for dinner. We have never gone to a Japanese restaurant before. The restaurant is very clean, the prices aren't bad and the staff are unbelievable. Very attentive and friendly. Daniel, our Hibachi chef was very entertaining and the food was out of this world. We had great fun there, and I now LOVE Saki! We are definately going to return often. I visit Sakimura at least twice a month, either for a take-out or sit-down dinner. The sushi is great, but the tofu teriyaki dinner is by far the best. The service is excellent - the staff is friendly and efficient. read more

We went here today for a sushi dinner, which we do about every 2 months. Sakimura has an amazing selection of rolls. Usually I'm not a roll person, but the combinations they had were unique, so I tried them out. The 2011 Roll, Red Dragon, and Out of Control were all very good. My boyfriend ordered his old stand-by, a Philadelphia Roll, but surprisingly it wasn't that good. The rice was kinda hard and cold like the roll was pre-made and they had stuck it in the fridge. The sushi was good. We had salmon, yellow tail, fluke, tuna, eel, and mackerel. The mackerel was average; it tasted a little dry. The waitstaff kept our waters filled, and did not take long at all to get us our food. I had no problem using my Groupon with a credit card. Overall the sushi was good, but it was the rolls that really made my dinner at Sakimura. read more

The hibachi is very good, sushi is solid but not amazing. You get a lot of a good either way at a fair price. Service can be a little slow but the hibachi chefs put on a good show. This is the best hibachi I've had in Meriden though. read more

Let me just say the place was very clean (and new), the staff was very nice, the fish was very fresh. I just didn't have any rolls that blew my mind. Not to mention I got this restaurant in the newspaper with my meet-up group and they didn't even give us anything extra or special with our meals. it is a nice large venue capable of housing large groups. This place is a fave for my husband and myself. We are frequent customers and the owner always greets us when we comes in and finds us a spot as quickly as possible, even during their busy times. Their sushi is great - get the crazy tuna - and I'm saying this coming to CT from New York and being a sushi snob lol. Their hibachi is delicious and is also incredibly plentiful servings. i wish it was more veg friendly. all the questions i asked about ingredients were not really answered well, so i was uncomfortable ordering food here. I don't love it, I don't hate it. It's just closer to home than places I like better. The manager is perpetually grumpy and never says hello when you walk in the door, but the waitresses are sweethearts and I can't say I've ever had bad service. Their kani salad is really unique, mixed with seaweed for texture and served on a bed of greens with a wonderful, acidic dressing that balances out the richness of the mayo. Most places just mash up some imitation crab, shredded cuke, throw some mayo and crunchies in and call it a day. Sushi is usually good, with no out-of-the-ordinary offerings as far as rolls go. My boyfriend always gets the Yellowtail Jalapeno appetizer. It's pricey- $14- but he loves it. He tried the Hamachi Kama, which was also good. My biggest complaint is that their wine pours are RIDICULOUS- like 4 ounces!- and way overpriced. For what I pay for a tiny little shot glass of wine there, I could buy the whole bottle at a store. C'est la vie. Hey, now that I think of it, someone give the manager some wine. Maybe he'll loosen up and crack a smile! read more

Horrible Service!! we waited for 30 minutes to get acknowledged by a waiter/waitress. The food was OK we wanted to try out a different Hibachi restaurant and received a Groupon $30 off as a gift. At the end of the meal the manager refused the Groupon coupon and kept coming back to the table with a different reason why!!! We even called Groupon to verify and it was still refused. I would recommend Iron Chef in Wallingford much better service and atmosphere. read more

First of all i came a couple of minutes later than the people that were already seated and the waitress expected me to know what i was gonna order a second later. That was the first time i was there and wanted to look at the menu a little longer. The waitress was extrememly rude and looked at me like i was stupid when i asked her a question. Then when the the hibachi was gettin made the chef gave the other people more food than our group. They were annoyed i didnt get my little daughter her own plate but she cant eat that much. Its none of their business but of course they want to make more money. The drinks are not free refill and they do not mention that. I have eaten here several times while the food has been decent the service has HORRIFIC! The entire waitstaff tried to rush us out the door & the restaurant wasn't even packed. The waitress had even gone as far as removing my plate while I was still eating! Unfortunately, this has hapPened several times. I was publically scolded by the manager for attempting to use a groupon coupon & my debit card. He was so rude & obnoxious & made such a scene, that others noticed. The problem I had with this place is that the service was not existent and manager was completely rude and forced us out to make room for the next patrons. I had a party of ten. Often our party didn't have drinks and no one ever came to find out if we needed more. The worst part was that they rushed us out. They never asked us if we wanted any more drinks or dessert and began busing the table and cleaning it around our last remaining drink as we sat there befuddled. When my daughter got up to ask if she could get desert the manager actually picked up her coat off the chair and handed it to me to push her chair in to make it easier for the bus boy to clean the table. My bill was $400 but if they provided the appropriate attention and didn't force us out to make room for the next party it easily would have been over $600. This was our first time at hibachi with the kids. They are notoriously picky when trying new things but since it was Father's Day, dad got to pick! We went at about 5:30 on Sunday and were seated right away. Our waiter was helpful with finding things on the menu and making sure no shellfish was in our meals as I am allergic (I didn't have any allergy issues at this restaurant and I can be very sensitive to even oils in the air) The star was the hibachi chef. He was awesome and really engaged with the kids. My daughter wanted to record the whole "show" on my phone to watch later. The food was fresh and tasty and we all ate very heartily. My boys eat a lot, but they couldn't finish the full adult size plate of food (which they normally do at other restaurants) We had enough to take home for dinner the next night. Restaurant is nice and clean. The front area is a bit cluttered but the actual restaurant has a nice vibe. And the bathrooms were clean!! Definitely will return! So yummy! We loved the food and thought for the price both the quality and quantity of food was very good. We didn't like the fact that they squeeze you in around the hibatchi table. In addition we had a "Groupon" and they were not eager to accept. The Groupon had only one stipulation that you needed to make a reservation which we did. When I used it to pay for our bill the manager came over and asked if we had are reservation and if so for what time and name. If I could give this no stars I would. Went on a Saturday with a reservation for 7 pm. Was not seated until 7:45. I understand people linger and that can't be helped but offer a drink to the over 20+ people waiting for the hibachi tables. They were out of soda on a Saturday night so I asked for a pineapple and cranberry (no alcohol) and the waiter told me they were out of juice in the back and I had to get that at the bar myself! They charged me $4.50 for a glass of juice that I had to get myself. We told the waiter and cook there was an allergy at the table which was completely ignored and had to wait additional time for them to get new food. Finally, we asked for the check and the waiter lost our order! After we finished eating, we had to repeat to the waiter EVERYTHING we ordered so he could ring up the check. We have been to Sakimura twice now for hibachi and it is our favorite Japanese restaurant in the area. The hibachi chefs are entertaining and the food is outstanding. I always get the filet mignon and chicken. The course starts with a salad and miso soup. Then, you get noodles, vegetables, rice and your meat. Make sure you go to Sakimura with an appetite because you get a lot of food. We also love the delicious Scorpion bowls. read more

I am not a fan of sushi, or even oriental food. But I have to say, I will be back for the hibachi grill. We all had the filet and some seafood (shrimp, lobster, scallops), no complaints at all. The 1 star deduction is for short chairs and tall price. But like I said, I will be back. :-) read more

The food was ok (Sakura in Watertown had much better hibachi and Tomo 68 in Naugatuck has far superior sushi), the decor was cute, but the service was poor. I never received a place setting (even though I asked), we had to track someone down for refills and they took our plates away before we were even done. My kids had leftovers that they wanted to take home and the waitress just took their plates and stacked them on top of each other before we can even utter the word "to go". The worst part of all is that we went with friends and as I was passing the check over to my friend to have them pay their portion, the manager literally took my credit card and the check out of my hand (and I didn't even realize he was standing behind me waiting). We didn't have the bill for more than a minute before they were hovering behind us waiting for their money. After him holding my check for several minutes and trying to explain that I was splitting the bill with the other couple I had to finally be abrupt with him (which is something that I never do) and say "please give me the check back and just give us a minute" for him to go away. My husband is a chef and I have also worked in restaurants so we certainly understand the need for a quick turnaround on a busy night but that was just silly, rude and unprofessional. $90 to be treated like crap for a family dinner is far too much and I highly doubt I will ever return. Thank goodness for the entertainment from the chef, that is the only part that made our trip worth it. read more

We decided to try this place because we bought a groupon- which if you don't know is not a coupon it is a gift certificate that you buy at a discount. We double checked and it didn't say anywhere that you couldn't use it on the weekends- just that you had to make a reservation. So we called and made a reservation on a Friday night and when we got there we told them we had the groupon. We were seated, had ordered our food and drinks and appetizers had already come when the manager came over and told us they were not going to honor our groupon and that we had to come back again and use it another time. This is a giftt certificate that we paid for and they would not honor it. That is fraud. Since I am not afraid of making a scene and I knew I was right- which I later confirmed with groupon- I did not back down and eventually they agreed to accept it but only after being quite nasty and telling me repeatedly I was hurting their business (by using the groupon that they had conned me into buying??). I have never been treated so badly at a restaurant in my life! Well, their groupon campaign definitely backfired because I will NEVER eat there again and am telling everyone I know to avoid it. I guess it would have been hard to enjoy any food after that but I will say that the Hibachi was just OK and I probably wouldn't have returned in any case. read more

my boyfriend and i are big fans of hibachi food, but not huge fans of the scene that goes with it. however, you can sit at a regular table at sakimura and still get the works: soup, salad (with delicious ginger dressing), fried rice, shrimp, vegetables and dipping sauces. we went on nye for the first time and plan on going back a lot. the place was packed, so reservations are probably a good idea. the shrimp, hibachi chicken and filet mignon were all delicious. just bring your appetite, because you get a ton of food. read more
