Sakura is consistently good! It's tucked away in a nondescript strip mall next to Franklin's only legitimate late night bar, The Pond. It's the kind of place you know is good because of the lack of fanciness. They have a pretty wide range of Asian dishes, including Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese. Want Thai Curry or Tom Kha, gatcha covered. What Sushi? Covered. Vietnamese Pho? Yep. "Chinese" General Chicken? Why not? They may have "Japanese" in the name, but all of it done well, at least to my American tastes. I think their Tom Kha is the best in town, and the Hong Kong shrimp really hit the spot. read more

She is hesitant to call too much attention to the place as it will get crowded fast when everyone knows what we know about this place. It's the loving touch they add to their Miso soup; they have kicked it up a notch with a Smokey and savory flavor. Yum! General Tso, Sushi, pad Thai, and egg rolls are all expertly prepared with maximum flavor. The peace de resistance though, is the Horseshow Roll. It is NOT on the menu, but they'll bring it right out to you. It's a sushi roll wrapped in Avocado rather than rice, seaweed, or cucumber. It's a bit slippery to pick up with chopsticks, but boy, is it ever tasty and refreshing. If you are looking for great sushi and/or Asian food that won't break the bank; this is the place for you. As a former Californian, I am used to very good Asian food, and an write picky about authentic good food. Living in Spring Hill, I don't have time to go up and search for places in Nashville, so I look closer to home such as Columbia and Franklin. One of my pet peeve's about this area is that everything is fusion. This restaurant is no exception. Even though it is named and listed as a Japanese restaurant, I think it's primarily Thai. However, I was in the mood for pho, but settled on this place because it had high reviews. I was gonna get udon, but they turned out to not have udon. Yes, they had sushi and teriyaki, but no udon. They did, however, have all typical Thai dishes, including a Thai pho, which I risked getting, assured that it didn't have sugar in it. Bad news? It was not Vietnamese pho. Good news? It was amazingly delicious. It tasted like good pho with an orangish color on the broth from Thai chilies. I usually don't put anything in my pho other than basil and sprouts (no hot sauce). But this soup was fresh and very tasty. I dare say better than regular pho!! My wife ordered a Thai fried noodle dish which looked and tasted exactly like chow fun, but spicy. It too was delicious. I also ordered a sake nigiri (salmon), which was generous and good. Bottom line, best Asian food I've had here, better sushi and food than jasmine, remarkable Thai pho, but not a full Japanese menu. Sakura has been a family favorite of ours for several years now. It's a wonderful, small, family-run business hidden in an old strip mall in Franklin. We've tried numerous items on their expansive menu and ALL have been EXCELLENT. Their prices are very reasonable and especially so given their LARGE PORTIONS. We like to buy several different items and share which makes it a lot of fun. The Sakura employees are all very polite and helpful. Their call-in takeout service is QUICK and ORGANIZED. This is our go to sushi spot in Franklin, especially for the price. Servers are kind, food is prepared quickly and is always amazing.

My wife had the displeasure of enduring appalling rudeness at this establishment. The manager, with an insufferably condescending tone, questioned her ability to pay as she counted a couple of dollars in change for the order. Would he have questioned her ability to pay if she was white? The only reason we ever tolerated this mediocre spot was its proximity to our home. We've decided to opt for Fuji Hibachi Express Spring Hill for superior food and service instead. Based on other reviews I've seen for this restaurant this isn't the first time the manager has been rude to a paying customer. He should be fired. We have been going there for years, clearly this place is deteriorating faster than others. Last night we ordered pork cashew and mixed vegetables, in addition, chicken and mixed vegetables, bot( with white rice. Very pleasant surprise in a nondescript cluster of strip malls that are anchored by a large Kroger grocery. Enter Sakura and immediately turn right through a curtained doorway then left into a moderately small room with a handful of tables and a sushi bar where you can watch a master chef at work. Starters; Harumaki...a flavorful Japanese Vegetable Spring Rolls unlike most relatively bland Spring rolls that need Duck Sauce. This had subtle flavors that were delicious and intriguing. Crunchy Crab Roll with spicy sauce and the Spicy Tuna Roll both deliver on flavor and distinct textures from crunchy to creamy. Mild spice. Cashew Chicken. Flavor profile was relatively plain and the dish a bit too wet (with no serving spoon to dish out for sharing.) Need to try some other Thai dishes to provide accurate rating...and I will ... be back soon. Service...super courteous and almost too attentive. Do not and I repeat do not order them from Uber Eats... it was an hour later and it said that my order was received and was being prepared. So I finally called. The lady acted confused on the phone for 5 minutes and then said oh wait let me check and hung up on me. I cancelled my order and it turns out they never even started preparing the order. So sad. Especially when you're trying to support small businesses during these times. Like most restaurants right now you can tell staffing seems to be an issue which leads to a longer wait at times but they more than make up for it with friendly attitude and the food is worth the wait. Always greeted with a smile when arriving and thanked when leaving. Looks can be deceiving but great food, service, and selection of Asian beers so don't judge a book by its cover. A Japanese restaurant that's not a chain in Franklin? I admit, my expectations were low. I was pleasantly surprised by a diverse menu that pleased the globe trotter in me and also my not as adventurous yet still curious mom. I ordered the chef's choice Sushi Dinner, knowing that this would be a good gauge for the rest of the sushi menu. My mom ordered sesame chicken and shrimp from the hibachi grill. The chef gave me a nice array of nigiri, salmon roe, and a tuna roll. The tuna maki (roll) was a B+, but I would have preferred a spicy tuna maki come with the dinner. The nigiri were wonderful (A+), and the best surprise was toro (fatty tuna). Yum. My mom loved her shrimp and chicken, which came in a large portion for a great price. The service was attentive and there was no wait for a table on a this weekday evening. I'll return and next time I'll try some desert too. read more

They looked congealed. Like someone had regurgitated them. Rice was slimy, whatever sauce was on top looked like a science experiment. Fish looked 2 days old. The tuna didn't even taste like tuna. I was able to eat once piece of each before I became so nauseated, that I actually threw up. I have eaten Publix sushi before and would recommend that over this restaurant. The restaurant we originally chose was closed..... so I typed in sushi on my gps to see what was closest. We found Sakura. Had decent reviews. So we popped in for some late night sushi. It was only 9:15 but it was a weeknight.... The building is run down and outdated. So we didn't expect much, but we were already there. So we ordered. Prices were very decent! So that made us happy. We figured even if it's not the best. It would still be compatible in price to eating at a boring chain. Our server was excellent! Very nice girl and she did a good job making sure we had everything we needed:) Sushi came first. I was surprised by how fancy it looked. The sushi menu wasn't huge, so I figured they just had pretty basic taste and preparation. It looked legit! So that was exciting! Taste was great! Nothing out of this world. But price/choice to taste ratio was exceptional! The shrimp pad Thai.... not too great. It was ok, the spice level was higher than we hoped, we ordered it at a 2/2.5 it was definitely 3/3.5. Still edible but our noses were running:) the flavor was ok, but it seemed to be lacking. I can't put my finger on it. Just didn't taste very full flavored if that makes sense? There was basically no atmosphere/ambiance. If they remodeled and did a sushi happy hour I think the place could be hoppin! We may come back for sushi sometime.
