More of a convenience store size than a grocery BUT they are clean, well stocked, and the employees are so approachable and kind! I'm so happy my family decided to check this place out. They have a great selection of Hawaiian and Japanese groceries in addition to some great housewares and ready made foods. The parking lot is small but don't let that deter you. This is a hole-in-the-wall Japanese grocery store. Sakura have authentic Japanese treats, seasonings, food, sake, and other novelties. Friendly staff. The store is so organized and the price is to be expectedly high due to inflation, but worth it. I bought sashimi salmon to cook for my Valentine's dinner. It's the freshest salmon I ever bought. One thing so unique about Sakura, they made sure the salmon stayed fresh. They offeed a small bag of ice to put in the bag. I can tell you the salmon was very tender. I will go back for it plus other Japanese items as well as, their treat and sake. I like supporting local stores because they are the heart of our city's economy. Won't you? read more

Do not believe the 4/5 star ratings on here from your peer yelpers! Those reviews are just coming from crybabies expecting more out of a simple Japanese grocery shop. What more can you expect? What store in the Central Valley could do better? This is the only Japanese grocery store in Stockton and they have the essentials. I had visited many Japanese grocery stores in the Bay Area when I lived there, and I have to say that this shop is totally convenient and have most of the things you're looking for Japanese goods. The workers are so adorable and very respectful! They demonstrate awesome customer service and also recommend what ingredients you need in order to make sushi or poke. Ever since I moved to Stockton from the Bay, this place will now be my go-to area whenever I crave some good authentic treats and sushi/poke ingredients. I also gotta say, the sake is amazing and hard to find in some stores (BevMo probably has some of them, but support your local grocery stores!) Regarding the fish, they taste amazing and it's sushi grated. You know the fish is fresh once it starts having a melting effect in your mouth. The pricing is reasonable! I believe this is the only grocery store in Stockton that serve sushi grated fish. They also offer to pack ice for the fish! Winning!!!! read more

I once loved shopping here as the staff were impeccably polite. Due to this consistently excellent customer service, I've come to expect nothing less. In my last few visits, however, I've noticed a change in customer service that is difficult to ignore. Subtle things like not handing the bag to me (but to other customers), sly digs at purchases, lack of friendliness reciprocity, gently nudging me to essentially 'hurry up and buy' and things of the like. Although these things sound and appear innocuous to most, I pay attention to these things when a)it greatly differs from the treatment I USED to receive and b)it differs from the treatment received by others. I was be bopping around Stockton for the day. Just so happen to stop on by this shop for the very first time. What perfect timing since they were having their annual anniversary sale, 15% off most items. For folks from Sacramento, the shop reminds me of a mini mini version of Ota's without the produce section. The shop is clean and organized. In this compact space, they sell Japanese snacks, drinks, breads, candy, cooking staples (sauces, rice, seasonings, frozen food, noodles, etc), Daiso items, chopsticks, plates/bowls, tea settings, and various knickknacks. They sell mochi that is supplied by Osaka Ya (Sacramento). Plus they sell fresh sashimi cuts of fish, deli salads (seaweed, octopus), and bento boxes. But I hear the boxes sell out pretty early in the day. The shop is family run and has been around since 2005. That is great especially in this world of finicky shoppers and economic times. The price point on snacks and soda pop is on par or cheaper with the equivalent American items in mini marts and supermarkets. I am saying the items are affordable, so drop on by for your snack fix. And ... sushi making material, Japanese tea sets, and so on. They are in the same center as MW Dutch bakery and Tigers yogurt shop. Fabulous. read more

Highly recommended! I got my partner a sushi making kit for Christmas and this place had everything I needed to make the perfect dinner. I asked for advise about sushi rice and received such good service selecting the rest of my items. I was really impressed by the fresh fish counter and the huge selection of confections, ramen, frozen foods, unique gifts and fresh items like gobo root! My friends and I decided to check out Sakura since it seemed like a such a cute little store offering unique Asian goodies. When we walked in we were greeted by the friendly cashier. For such a small place, Sakura has a huge variety of items. I ended up purchasing a few Japanese snacks and my friends did the same. The best part was that Sakura does not mark up the prices like crazy. Most places that sell cute Japanese snacks make them very expensive so I usually just do without them, but I only spent $6 on the three items I got. I definitely recommend checking Sakura out! Omfg.....this place is so awesome! A little piece of japan in stockton. I love it! They have sashimi and other japanese treats, frozen and fresh! They have a back section that is like a daiso, really cheap necessities and cute things. We bought sashimi and hamachi! The salmon was pretty fresh tasting. Really really good. However, the hamachi wasnt that great. I had to sizzle it a little bit to get rid of the fishy taste. Will come back if im in the area!!!!! read more

Sakura is becoming my favorite shop in all of Stockton and possibly California at this point. I love the Japanese culture and food. This store is extremely authentic. It seems like it's family owned but I don't know that for sure. Everyone is kind and helpful. Been here a lot of times and today I was determined to make my own sushi and sashimi at home. Came here and got the best cuts of Hamachi, Tuna, Salmon and Octupus. Got a few sides - seaweed salad, octupus salad, sushi rice and miso soup mix. For what I bought ($71) it would have cost $300-$500 for a 4 top for this much food (2lbs of fish total). I just had to slice the fish and the rest was pretty much made. Thank you Sakura. Its mostly rice cracker things -I wish they carried umaibo snacks -I don't think this is that big of a "con" but i'd like to see another prepared dish introduced: maybe nikujaga or other types of onigiri or even maybe onigirazu! Sakura on Pacific Ave. I don't eat a lot of Japanese food in general. About once or twice a month. But I have come here twice over the past two months to pick up some of the good food they sell here. The place is a little small and very well organized. The staff here are very sweet. I really love the prepacked or ready made food. Or Whatever you want to call them. Today when I got out the gym, I wanted something a little different for my post workout snack. I was driving down Pacific ave and made a right and it was either here or Chinese food. So I chose here and grabbed some Futomaki five pieces for $ 3.49 and some wasabi Shrimp chips $1.49 and a Ramune drink for $1.79. I never had Futomaki before in my life. So I ate it and it was actually really yummy. The Wasabi Shrimp chips were good and the Ramune drink was Hella good. I also tried the California Roll before and I liked it as well. Along with some Soy Honey Milk which was pretty good too. They sell a bunch of items here. Giant bags of rice and munchies for days. They do have top ramen cup of noodles here too. I'll have to look around more and see what else tickles my fancy. But for now I'm a fan of the food that they sell here and all the junk food. Sakura is a cute little Japanese store in town. Although very small, the store carries all the essential Japanese groceries. The store is very clean and run by friendly Japanese people. I primarily come here for the snacks and the sushi grade fish. The sushi grade fish is always fresh and clean! I buy fish here all the time and never once have I felt sick after eating it. If you decide to have sashimi at home, I would highly recommend getting your fish here! I don't know where else you would go in Stockton anyways. They also recently started carrying pork belly. When I first found out, I was extremely happy! Now I don't have to venture out of Stockton to get thinly sliced pork belly. In addition to Japanese groceries, Sakura also carries bento box accessories! Sakura is probably the only place in Stockton that carries bento box accessories like rice molds and decorations. I will say some items are a bit overpriced and can be found for $1.50 at Daiso but since there is no Daiso nearby this is really your only option. read more

This is a great little Japanese market with food, dry goods, a frozen section, and even some tableware. I love supporting local businesses, especially mom and pop places like Sakura. They are always polite and helpful, which is admirable. They have a great assortment of ramens, dry noodles, and rice. They also have specialty Hawaiian goods, and desserts like Mochi. They have some tasty frozen dumplings, but I usually come in to buy sashimi grade fish for making my own sushi. If you want to learn how to make sushi rolls, they have all the supplies you need. I watched YouTube videos to learn and came in to buy my items such as sushi rice, seaweed, rolling mats, sashimi, seasonings, and fish. They also offer some tasty California rolls, they make them in house and sell out quickly, but if you call ahead to reserve some for when you're off work they will gladly do that for you. Bring your own bag and they will pack it for you. I highly recommend this store for sushi related purchases, ramen, rice and tasty Hawaiian snacks. Give it a try read more

I love coming to Sakura :). There's no other store like it in town! Once you enter the store you're greeted by a friendly staff member. I agree with the rest of the yelpers. This place is clean and organized. I come here often knowing exactly what I want to buy but I always find myself getting lost in every aisle looking at every item because everything is so cute! Need some sake? They've got quite a selection along with japanese beer and they even sell sake drinkware too! Not into alcohol? They've got Japanese tea and cute tea pots and cups here. Craving for sushi? They sell ready made sushi or sell all the ingredients there (sushi rice, seasoning, sashimi, wasabi, and pickled ginger). They even sell chopsticks and dinnerware. Sushi and musubi mats and molds galore :) Japanese dessert anyone? They sell mochi ice cream here along with other desserts. Heck...you can get all your supplies for a Japanese dinner party here. I love love love how they also sell items often found in Hawaii such as Macadamia nut chocolates, Portuguese sausage, and Aloha brand soy sauce. Sakura is great. It's nice to have a Japanese market so close to home. While they don't carry everything you can find in the bigger markets you find in the Bay Area or in Sacramento, they do have a good variety of the essentials along with other snacks, sauces, and kitchenware. Off the top of my head, they have: furikake, daifuku, dashi granules, miso paste, sushi mats, bonito flakes, sushi fish, ready-made sushi,, and even an oden platter ready to be added into your soup dish. They even have some frozen items and will offer you ice to keep your groceries cold on the ride home. The prices are very reasonable and definitely, if you're craving some sashimi, buy the fish here and slice it up at home! Much cheaper than at the sushi restaurants! read more

Great little Japanese grocery store! They have a nice variety of snacks, cooking ingredients and supplies, and little knick knacks like school supplies, gifts and home goods. The snacks are pretty reasonably priced. They're the only store in town I've seen that sells the Japanese kewpie mayo (I use it to make my Cali rolls!). They also carry the Vermont curry mixes which I can't find at the other Asian grocery stores in town. The staff are always friendly and pleasant, and they're eager to help when you're looking for something in particular. There's plenty of parking available in the plaza and they're right next to an awesome frozen yogurt shop too (so tempting!). I like supporting mom and pop businesses like Sakura so I'll definitely be back! They also sell pre-packed rolls and nigiri so I might try those next time :) read more
