Very nice to have this place inside the DoubleTree hotel where we were staying. We took advantage of the Teppanyaki presentation and food. Think Benihana, but not as good. Service was great the F&B Supervisor was terrific and Pearl our teppanyaki chef was fantastic. New York Steak, Lobster and Shrimp were all spot on. Veggie and fried rice good also. Reasonable prices, limited wait time, great service and friendly staff make this a great place to check out. They also have a sushi bar which we didn't try but heard good things. I can't tell you how many years it's been since we have gone to this location since my mom had moved out of flagstaff years ago. When we had tried to make a reservation for our party of 10 over open table it refused to let us book it. So we tried 8 since our youngest two in the group are little toddlers that barely eat. So we figured they could sit on our laps and eat off our plates. So when we had got to Sakura a bit early from the North Pole experience tonight my stepdad had mentioned that we were actually a party of 10. When I tell you the attitude and sass from this woman came off me personally if our whole party wasn't starving I would have left. Because the way she acted was as though thy had a full house and there was just no way having a party of 10 is unacceptable. Fast forward to 32+ min later we were seated and the whole start to finish took over 2 hours. I'm so grateful our server and chef were absolutely wonderful. Super polite and respectful how most people should be working in customer service unlike the hosts up front. The server and chefs were the real starts of the show tonight. And of course after our wonderful meals upon exiting there was absolutely no kind of "have a good night" or thanks for dining with us or anything of the sort. If the owner or management ever read these they def need to consider hiring new hostesses that are pleasant and not so rude. read more

We had such a good dinner here on Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation but were seated with a group of 4 a few minutes after we arrived. The chef was a little late to our table but he was very apologetic and friendly. The food was really good. I had the egg drop soup and it was hot and tasty and the salad was crunchy, cold, and fresh. I ordered the hibachi chicken with garlic and butter, steamed rice, and it was delicious. The chicken was very flavorful and cooked perfectly. The veggies had a nice crunch to them and were seasoned well. The inside was clean and every employee we interacted with was friendly. Chef and server were nice. Chef was actually great. We had a reservation for a party of 5. We were seated immediately upon arrival and filled one small table completely. I think everyone got filet mignon and/or chicken. Meat was well cooked and tender and juicy. Veggies were also great. They made me a custom sushi roll that was delicious too. I was on the fence with some of these reviews and the fact it's located in a Hilton Hotel, but so glad we decided to give them a chance. Service was great. We ordered quite a bit of food including regular and spicy edamame, sashimi, three rolls, sushi tower, cucumber and seaweed salad. Everything came out at decent times allowing us to finish certain things with no rush. Our server was fun and friendly. Beer glasses were chilled which is great as well. My favorite of the night was the snake roll, but everything was delicious. It's been ten years since we dined at Sakura at the Double Tree in Flagstaff. We thought it would be a night of good food, entertaining atmosphere and reminiscing. Food was good, Chef was entertaining, people at our grill were talkative and friendly, but the bill was disappointing. Partly on me because I didn't scrutinize the bill close enough at the end of the meal with all the commotion going on and deceptive on them with the added charges which I didn't really see until this morning. First they charged us for 2 fried rices when my wife got steamed rice. Then they added an 18% Gratuity Charge on a bill for 2 people. Renamed the 18% Gratuity Charge as a Service Charge and then printed a Suggested Gratuity section on the bill. Because I didn't look closely enough at the bill, we tipped an additional $20 in Cash to end the evening. My fault for not seeing it at the table but highly deceptive on the part of Sakura Management to add in an extra fried rice, call a Gratuity a Service Charge and then ask for an additional tip. June 2021: I was invited to a dinner, 3 kids, 3adults. Our chef Chris, was knowledgeable, entertaining, made our evening so much better. I had soup and salad, I don't eat fish/seafood. No complaints, no issues. One day I came back to enjoy the best soup and salad I've ever had, was told I'll need to wait until 4pm, I'm guessing it's on this dinner menu. I've dined at Sakura six times in the last year when I'm up in Flag-always on a Friday or Saturday night. I have always had a great experience and the food has been flavorful and cooked perfectly. Only once has it been busy. I've always made reservations and they have always been on time- until this past May 16, 2026. I made reservations for 7pm and got there 15 minutes early. I checked in with the hostess, we chatted for a minute and told her we'd be at the bar waiting for our table. It took the bartender more than 5 minutes to even acknowledge us (there are only about 6 seats at the bar and we took the two right in the middle!) which is inexcusable. He did make good drinks though and was friendly once he got us our drinks. He got my friend's beer within 2 minutes but forgot my drink- I had to remind him after he chatted with another customer for several minutes- so mine took about 10 minutes to get with only three people at the bar and a three-top in the lounge. 7:05 went by, then 7:10, and at 7:15 I asked the bartender if I should check in with the hostess and he said "absolutely!" The hostess had somehow overlooked my buddy and I, and apologized several times. We went back to the bar and sat until 7:35 then checked back in because she had not come to get us....She finally sat us at 7:40- we were forgiving and not in a particular hurry anyway, but it should not have happened! Every time I've eaten there the hostess has come to get me in the bar when my table was ready. As we walked into the dining room, there was an unoccupied and dirty table full of dishes right at the entrance with an empty bus tub sitting on the table. No server or busboy was around. That bus tub sat there for 45 minutes and nobody cleaned that table or did anything about it. Restaurant 101 lessons anyone??? That should NEVER happen. The server told me what beers were available and I ordered a large Sakura and a large saki. The server came back 5-6 minutes later and told me they were out of Sakura, so I ordered another beer brand. Communication! My buddy and I both ordered the lobster and filet mignon. 5-6 minutes later the server told us they were out of lobster. Geez! Who the hell is running this place?? All these mistakes were easy to avoid, and important to get right! I served/bartended/managed in food and beverage for 39 years, so I know what I'm talking about. Nobody offered us even a free drink or to comp anything, which would be standard practice- AT LEAST! Our Teppanyaki Chef was Bobby (I think) and he was great- saving grace. read more

Only been here once, therefore the benefit of the doubt is 3 stars rather than one. Our server and cook were nice. The cook was very outgoing and fun. Our server was barely around, but that wasn't a huge deal. My 3 stars, which really should be one, is for an entirely different reason. 2 of us had the filet mignon and lobster, another had filet mignon and not sure what, others had chicken as well as tofu. I did think the filet was good and so did others, the lobster seemed so-so, I definitely would not get the lobster again. While cooking, the cook literally drenched the food in the clear liquid, im guessing some type of oil, but not sure, either way he just kept drenching the food. When he made the fried rice, he used a darker seasoned liquid, similar to soy sauce flavor. It was good, but he soaked the rice in it. He dumped so much in the rice while cooking that i looked up and another person in our party sitting across from me looked at me and we both had odd looks due to this. Eating the fried rice was like eating a brick of salt. BUT, heres the big problem. When we got home, my wife ran in the house and blew her brains out her behind. Whatever, maybe she ate too much. About 10 minutes later i had to run to the bathroom then proceeded to blow all of my innards out of my rear end. Once i was finally done, out of the restroom and relaxing, it hit again which is when i realized not all of my innards had come out, cus the rest came out this time. Towards the end of that session, i felt like i had to throw up and was on knees in front of the porcelain god just waiting for magic to come out of my mouth. Although i never really threw up, i would up gagging quite a bit with some coming up my throat. Once i was able to leave the restroom, i come out just to find out another that went with us was in the restroom. This morning we find out that yet ANOTHER in our party was having stomach issues all night. I can not imagine what the actual issue was as 2 of us had the same food, another had some of the same food, the other had none of the same food, but all had issues. Was this the massive amounts of liquid they drenched the food in while cooking? I have no clue. What i do know is that where i live there is an actual real Japanese restaurant thats been massively popular for over 40 years, and they do NOT cook like this at their teppan tables. I bet I ate at the table across from Dan! (another reviewer) The young lady who cooked for us did a good job, but as another Yelper described, almost everything was "blackened". Totally bummed by this, as it ruined the food. Our cook wasn't pushing sauces or garlic butter, but still, neither of these have any place in teppanyaki cooking except as a "side" for the consumer to dip their food into. At least not in any of the other teppanyaki places I've eaten in previously... I've eaten here a few times over the years and every time prior to this it was good, sometimes great, but always good at the worst. Rather than have to warn the cook not to burn our food, I'm going to some of the other teppanyaki places in town. Sorry, but you folks really blew it. This is a delayed review from March. I planned a solo trip to AZ, Scottsdale-Phoenix-Flagstaff (Grand Canyon)-back to Phoenix in order to visit National Parks and geocache. I arrived at the DoubleTree on March 1st, just in time before the roads were closed for the impending snow storm-what the heck did I know?? My plans were to drive from the DoubleTree to the Grand Canyon to spend two days exploring-hahaha. I was snowed in. However this location was a great place to be "stuck." I explored the menu and decided on sushi. I ordered a special California and a spicy tuna roll. I figured if I couldn't finish it and I'm still snowed in, I have a sushi snack! We ordered 4 rolls - Special California, salmon skin, lambo roll & soft shell crab roll. All of which were very good! The lambo roll is a roll they created which has spicy tuna inside the roll and ontop there's tiny, deep fried langostines. We also ordered a shrimp tempura appetizer which were a big, meaty size. The first time I went the sushi was absolutely phenomenal. The 3 sushi chefs they had on staff that day presented some of the best and most beautiful sushi I've ever had. The volcano roll in particular was HUGE and tasted amazing. I was thoroughly impressed. However, the second time i went in a week or so later, the sushi was just meh... something about the taste and presentation were just not that great and they made the volcano roll significantly smaller, despite it being one of the highest priced rolls. I actually booked the doubletree hotel for our stay because I saw there was a Tepenyaki restaurant inside lol We made our reservation for 8pm on Saturday and we're sat on time. Our order was taken pretty quickly for drinks and food. I ordered the Beast roll I believe and it was really good. The green salad was great and our cook was delightful and knew how to cook our food spot on. We have had issues at Ah-So with how the food is seasoned and we did not have that problem here. My daughter and I agreed the scallops were not well seasoned, melt-in-your-mouth flavorful but tasteless lumps, as was the sashimi. The chicken was on the dry, tough side, not savory either. The food comes searing from the grill but cools off quickly. My dish was cold by the time I finished. With mandatory tip, a family celebration for four adults and two kids for my grandson's birthday was over $310. The kids had a good time, although the staff made no mention of his birthday. The ambiance is blah--clean, nice place, well-lit, comfortable, but certainly nothing special. We're not tall people and found the chairs at the grill were too low. I sat on my jacket wadded up. We were seated promptly when our reservation time arrived. Service was also prompt and attentive. On leaving, they could not get their credit card machine to work and we waited as they repeatedly tried two different cards of mine. It finally, went through, but delayed us several minutes getting the kids home. Given that the restaurant was in the hotel, it made it convenient to grab a quick dinner. I ordered the two rolls as an appetizer. I was disappointed that they didn't have any tempura veggie rolls, as sweet potato is my go-to choice. They had tempura in the menu so I don't know why? The veggie roll was poorly made. Each piece fell apart when eating and the two ends were so big that I had to rip them apart to eat them. Not my idea of how to eat sushi. The menu was confusing at best. I wanted to order the vegetable noodles but was told that it was only available at the grill. So the waiter brought me a stir fry that although vegan, was bland and boring. I also sat and watched the performance at the grill and was surprised how different it was from every hibachi experience I've ever had. The chef's only "trick" was to pour oil all over the grill and set it ablaze. No tossing veggies, no egg in the chef's hat, no smoke stack onion show. He actually had to yell to scare a guest to get them to wake up. That should tell you something. I guess when you're at 7,000 ft above sea level and no oceans around for many miles, Sushi is perhaps not the best choice. However, some training here would help. read more

The food and service is excellent. The chefs say yes to everything . One concern is that you need to bring a very warm jacket as the restaurant is extremely cold! Your food will be cold when you eat it that is how cold the temperature is in the restaurant. The host would not even ask if the temperature could be adjusted! The front desk receptionist spoke to engineering and asked if the temperature could be adjusted to make it warmer but I am sitting here with freezing cold hands and cold food trying to enjoy my dinner. read more

Our chef, a female chef which is rare, I guess, at Teppanyaki restaurants was fun and talented. She set the griddle and our plates on fire before she started cooking. She mentioned that the center of the griddle got to 500 degrees. The cooking commenced. There was a lot of fun banter between her, another chef immediately behind her and restaurant guests. They have two parts to the restaurant: teppanyaki and the cafe/sushi area. You do have to have a reservation ahead of time for teppanyaki. We went for a quick Happy Hour and decided to check it out. Food; We tried several appetizers which were good, the Mongolians Ribs was a hefty serving size and tasty, the shrimp tempura was good. I got a Las Vegas type sushi roll, I know everyone calls them something different, which is a sushi roll in a jalapeno.
