The food at Sal and Sons is very good. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because our fries were cold. It's probably because one meal was simple (crab cake sandwich, fries), and the other may have taken longer to cook to order (shrimp and chicken jambalaya). Otherwise, we were absolutely satisfied with the food. The crab cake sandwich was on point. The creamy crab soup was flavorful, creamy, and worth every bite. The shrimp and chicken jambalaya was also executed well. Also, I highly recommend trying the fresh fruit drinks. We got watermelon and pineapple, and "refreshing" doesn't begin to describe how good they were. The service was straightforward and to the point, which works for me. The establishment is located inside of a market. We went on a Sunday, so this was one of the few eateries open. I'm imagining that it is probably more jumping on other days. If I'm in Baltimore again, I'll definitely consider visiting again and exploring more of the menu. read more

Fresh and delicious! On a recent visit to Broadway market I stopped by for some fresh clams. For 12 buck you got a half dozen medium neck clams. The clams were plump and fresh. Just the briny taste I was craving. Also while here I noticed they served tacos. I ordered 3 carne asada tacos. Meat was ample and the flavor was on point. Shoutout to bus guy who suggested i mixed the green sauce included with one of their hot sauces they have there. Service was pretty fast. Ambiance is standard food hall. I stopped by here a couple of Saturdays ago with my wife and twins for lunch. Since my wife likes seafood, we looked for a seafood restaurant in Fell's Point on Yelp and happened to find Sal and Sons. This restaurant is located in the Broadway Market, a type of food hall. As such, Sal & Sons is set up more like a food stall with some high-top seating, while there are plenty of standard tables throughout the market. For lunch that day, I decided to go with a fried oyster sandwich, while my wife chose the crab mac and cheese. We also decided to share the Maryland fries and ordered a cheese quesadilla for our kids. I tried the fried oyster sandwich first and thought it was fantastic. The brioche bun was toasted, buttery, and soft, while the fried oysters were super crispy and flavorful. The lettuce and onions added a nice freshness to what was otherwise a rich sandwich. Next, I tried the Maryland fries. The fries themselves were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The flavor was good overall, with a strong garlic presence. What I didn't taste, however, was any Old Bay, which is odd considering that's what I assumed made them "Maryland fries." Honestly, I think they forgot it. My wife enjoyed her crab mac and cheese and was impressed with the amount of crab in it. Last but certainly not least, the quesadilla was nicely cooked and both of our kids enjoyed it. Went there after Fells Point Fest. They were out of snapper as a few people ahead of me asked for it and I overheard and it sounds like you need to call ahead for it? Anyways I got the jambalaya. It was really tasty and portion was good but if its supposed to be shrimp and chicken jambalaya, I expect more than 3 pieces of shrimp. Docking a star for that. The food quality varies depending what you get. Their crabcake is decent for the price and their fried dishes can get a bit too fried in my opinion. Excellent casual seafood spot by Fells Point. It's nice to have a place like this to order fresh seafood over spending a fortune at a high-end restaurant. Many locals were here ordering takeout combos of fish, fries, and a drink. I skipped the fries and focused on eating seafood that is hard to get in my hometown without going to a fancy restaurant. I ordered one fried crabcake, raw oysters, and a refreshing aqua de pina drink. Everything is reasonably priced, local, and fresh. A half dozen oysters cost $12. They are large and fresh, served with cocktail sauce. The crabcake was delicious. Very meaty and nicely crisp on the outside. Fells Point is a touristy spot, but Sal and Sons doesn't feel like another overpriced tourist trap. The food and service and top-notch and is popular with the locals. We saw our crab dip prepared stove top, our crab cake being broiled, and heard the sizzle of our fries. We even saw the Maryland Crab Soup being prepared and I asked for a taste. Very tomatoey but good. Everything was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the crab cake and the Maryland Fries (with garlic & old bay!) This is my first time stopping here since the market was renovated. I only come down here to go drinking at local pubs but today I was hungry and I walked into the market and walked and found the Sal and Sons. The signage says they have been associated with the market a long time. This is great because I use to go to the local market as a kid to the fish stalls and seeing all the fresh fish and crabs. They have fresh fish daily. I like that. You can't get fresh fish in Baltimore from a local anymore. I looked at the menu and they had a special of BBQ half slab of ribs and I ordered it. They also had oysters and I ordered them as well. All fresh. The oysters were prepared as a fritter on a bed of romaine lettuce with a lime wedge on the side. The were delicious. Golden brown. Light battered so you can taste the oysters. Not quite like Mom's but good enough to pass for me. Second item was the half rack of BBQ ribs that were served on a bed of seasoned fries. The fries were hand cut, they were not bad at all. The ribs had me a little concerned. The ribs were spare ribs and meaty yes (4 bones) but were just one note. I did not see a BBQ rig outside nor did I see a pit master so these ribs had to be prepared by another method such as boiling them in water or oven I think they were boiling method because the ribs had no flavor at all. Boiling water brings nothing to the flavor profile of the ribs. No taste of wood smoke in the flavor of the meat nothing but the tomato BBQ sauce. This tells me that this was just boiled ribs and put some BBQ sauce on it and we call it a day. Money please. No if you advertise BBQ and you put this on the table I'm gonna call you out on it. Chef Ramsey would have thrown the plate of food out the window. I love the location. New upscale area. Clean with security coming by every few minutes to make sure all is quiet. I will recommend the place. They clean up the table after you leave and they keep the tables clean. Fresh fish too and they can do it to go as well. Cheers!!!!! read more
