He kindly approved my request and said he'd bag it himself. when I receive the order I don't get any napkins, utensils, or my croissant that I payed for. Came to clearlake because I had some work in the area and absolutely had to come to Salata for lunch. If you are coming and trying to eat healthy, I definitely recommend that you put the dressing on the side and get a small salad. Just make sure you pack it up with all those amazing greens. But regardless you can't beat a good salad with amazing protein options. The locations is killer and the ambiance of the restaurant is relaxing and feels right at home. This happy place has become my go-to salad place I mean you can't beat it for 8 bucks and you get to pick from their fresh fabulous toppings. Personally, if it wasn't for my aunt inviting me out to lunch here, I can't say I myself would stop by. Soup and salad cafes just isn't my thing. The layout feels like a Chipotle, Freebirds, Blaze Pizza, Subway, or Illegal Burrito joint where you get the opportunity to pick and choose whatever you'd like on your meal, except for here if you decide to go overboard they will charge you a little bit more for extra. My aunt had warned me she would pay, but only if I don't go overboard and as it didn't seem as I did, but I guess I did. The portion sizes of what give you isn't hearty and you would think they need to stop being cheap and give you more. If you aren't sure of what something tastes like, they will give you free samples and all the salad dressings seem the same as its either a vinaigrette of some sort, but they don't have red wine which was a problem for me since its my favorite. When you get towards the end, I noticed how cheap they tend to get with your proteins, now that's an issue for me. The breads are complimentary which I still can't understand why would you want bread to go with a salad unless its sweet soft baked bread. They have a wide selection of unsweetened teas, as I only got my free glass of water with a lemon. I hate how this place is expensive for no good reason, I mean just because its considered healthy, it shouldn't be wallet burning. That's just living up to the stereotype of healthy foods. This location is located in the Clear Lake area close to NASA and is easily accessed from anywhere on the Clear Lake City side of Clear Lake (locals will know exactly what I mean). Salata is more than just salads. They have wraps and soups too. First, you choose your lettuce type. You have a choice of Salata mix (lighter leaf mix), romaine, spring mix (darker leaf mix), spinach, and kale. After that, you move further down the line and choose your toppings. They have all types of fruits, vegetables, beans, and leafy things to add to your salad/wrap. You can also add cheese, nuts, pasta, egg, bacon, and croutons. For a small upcharge, you can add a protein. Their shrimp is my favorite and usually what I will add. They also have chicken (4 different flavors). If you are vegetarian or vegan, they also have falafel and tofu. Most add-ons are free but some are not. For example, guacamole is an upcharge. Proteins are an upcharge. Not only are you adding calories, you're adding dollars. If you want a wrap instead of a salad, the process is the same except you start with your selection of one of six different wraps. Soups are available as well. A huge bonus is the verified Salata menu is built into calorie counting apps such as My Fitness Pal. I built the salad I normally eat and saved it in to my personal favorites on the app to make it easy for me to keep track. A huge plus. I generally get the small salad with various toppings and a protein. I don't add any bread/croutons/tortilla strips. When I total is up, I still have a 520 cal salad. If you are counting calories, this is a great place to come because you can truly count them. The only reason why I only gave them four stars is for pricing. A salad can get expensive quickly if you are not paying attention to your add-ons. A salad with a protein and guacamole along with a drink can quickly become $15.00. Bottom line - Really good salads/wraps. A small is generally big enough. Easy to track calories with smart phone apps. They can get pricey if you are not paying attention to your add-on costs. We've been to this location many times. When it opened several years ago, it was top notch! Recently, we noticed that the standards seemed to be lower. Maybe it was the quarantine that brought down the level of service. Last night, my wife and I went and were served by two employees. The person at the beginning was fine but the young man that took over the completion of our orders was exceptional! He had a lot of energy and obviously took pride in his work. One complaint that I have for this experience is that there were a number of ingredient bins that were empty. Tomatoes, broccoli, and a couple more. Our visit was at 6:30pm (they don't close until 8:00pm so it wasn't due to closing procedures under way). They barely give you anything you ask for and when you ask for more they have an attitude. $41 for two salads and when it came to the tip screen I honestly didn't know what I was tipping for since the service was so bad. I was going to rate Salata 3 stars until i saw that when we were about to leave after eating, a roach ran across our table =( We came here for a healthy meal and while the lady served us well making our salads, when it was time to pay, the card slider was giving us issues. My husband tried 2 different cards to no avail, and then we tried mine. Mine didn't work either so they manually put in my card number. Before they manually put in my card, they kept asking if we had cash and we kept telling them we did not. It was a little unsettling especially there were people behind us waiting to pay. The ingredients here are fresh and they always make our orders correctly; however, the staff is not always friendly and some struggle to speak clear enough English to communicate well. It's like a Subway for salads; you go in and tell them if you want a salad or a wrap, then you get to choose everything. They have different types of salads, toppings galore, and they will put on as much or as little as you want. It does cost extra for protein, but they have plenty to choose from, even vegetarian options, which is very cool. The dressings/sauces all looked so good but I chose a herb vinaigrette that was just super delicious. The staff was super helpful, and really, the options are outstanding; if you can't find something you like to load up on, you're pickier than my husband, and he's world class picky! When you get to the end they chop and mix everything, and if you eat in, they serve it to you in the metal bowl, which is a little strange to me; but if you get it to go, they put it in a plastic, hinged container. They have fountain drinks, and bottled water and drinks as well. Now, if you're super hungry, and want a large salad you could definitely have a $15 salad as one reviewer said, and that's not a cheap lunch, for sure. We arrived at 11:25 a.m. and, since this is across from NASA, there was already a long line, which moves a little slow, so plan on a few extra minutes (the wait is worth it, trust me!!). Salata is a cafeteria style line, so you walk up and pick either salad or wrap. I opted for the wrap. Next, you decide what veggies you want, and there are really a lot of options to choose from, so I loaded up! After that, you hit the sauce section ... if you're unsure what one tastes like, just ask for a sample! I got the Fresh Herb Vinaigrette and it was really quite tasty! After that, you go to the meat section. They have several different chicken choices, including plain 'ol grilled chicken. They also have a couple of salmon choices, shrimp, and some other things. I opted for the pesto chicken. The chicken is chunky, white meat ... me likey!! And like the sauces, you can sample the meat, so this is good in helping with the decision making process and also, keeping the line flowing better. LOL. After that, you pick your tortilla ... since I wanted wheat, I really didn't listen to what other choices there were, but there were several! At that point, they rolled up my wrap, threw it on a plate and also added some pita chips which tasted super burnt to me. I ended up not eating them. The wrap, however, was delicious and I devoured the entire thing, and fast! They have several different tea options, beer, wine, soda and water, so there is something here for everyone! They would have earned the extra star if the wait in line wasn't so long. By the time we left, it was even longer than when we arrived. Will this change once they work out the grand opening kinks? If you haven't been here before here's how it works...... it's basically like Subway but only salads (Their salads are better then Subway's). You walk in walk up to the counter, they ask what kind of lettuce you want. They usually have about three different varieties of lettuce. You point at one and that gets you in to the next step for the next veggies you choose. They have protein options to mix into your salad as well. My favorite is the smoked Turkey. They also have chicken, shrimp, and so on and so forth. You get to the end of it they ask you if ya want the pita bread, if ya don't want the pita bread. Then there's this other type of bread as well they offer and then there's croutons and....you get it. It's simple. Go in there. Eat the salad. It tastes good. You'll like it. read more

They employee too few people, so when it gets busy they start rushing, which inevitably leads to messed up orders. The language barrier is strong and for positions that require you to talk with patrons on every ingredient, more mistakes happen. Since they are in such a rush, any request to change is met with less than enthusiasm. And half the time I end up with a bowl with all of the dressing gooped together and not mixed evenly because the poor person at the end feels like they need to not spend more than 2 seconds mixing it up.
