One thing I love about my hometown of Manhattan, is the fact that you could be in utter luxurious surroundings on one block and two blocks over are industrial environs. Los Angeles is like this too, but you have to drive between these scenarios. So, I happen to love the Riverside Drive (actually both in NYC and LA!), Silverlake, Atwater area with all its boxy apartments and bridges, the gritty but epic LA River and the little Bohemian enclave at its feet, Frogtown. I have reviewed other spots in this little haven and will likely return for more. But, Salazar is likely its most famous venue and with good reason. We were there on a Sunday afternoon at my magic hour when no one is supposed to be crowding us, either for a table or for parking. I was surprised to see Salazar buzzing with diners, coming and going. This was still their off-time because if you go there for dinner or breakfast you are going to be squeezed into a corner. This is a place by locals for locals. I am just glad we stumbled on it when tooling around to absorb the almost brutalist neighborhood it caps. I love this place. Look at the outdoor patio -- rough and worn wooden tables, rickety patinaed metal chairs, giant trees and characteristic black umbrellas. This is raw, as, let's say, Hudson Yards, but even more metallic. And then there is the menu. OMG, so many fabulous things for veg-heads like me. Even though I had studied it carefully at home, I still had to sit for a good 15 minutes and make difficult choices. I ended up with Huevos Rancheros, Guac, roasted purple potatoes (Papas Bravas), and a Phony Negroni -- see my pictures and read the menu descriptions. Everything was highly seasoned, including the complimentary bean dip that accompanied the guacamole. It was hard to resist devouring every inch of each dish. The dishes themselves were beautiful and, oh, lo how wonderful, there were giant linen napkins (black of course!) with steak knives, forks, and ... wait for it ... spoons, big ones! No one seems to be serving spoons any more in LA, except Salazar. I almost cried with happiness. And the take home bag was huge (yay!). Frankie was our waiter. He was hip, cool, smiley and quick. Respect, Frankie! The bill was beyond reasonable -- especially considering the generous portions and high quality, to say nothing of artistry, of every dish. We found parking; the weather was perfect -- cool and sunny; and every kind of human being were our patio-mates, a real melting pot. Huge trees overhead. There is an indoor space for bad weather (rare). What's not to love? We will be back ...

Passed by Salazar the night before and noticed it was packed, so we decided to come back and check it out for lunch--and I'm glad we did. There's no dedicated parking lot, but we were able to find plenty of street parking nearby without too much trouble. The restaurant is mostly outdoor seating, which was perfect since it was a sunny day--great vibe overall. It's also dog-friendly, which is always a huge plus. Our server greeted us with water and menus right away and got us settled in. We were sticking to a fish-only diet that day, so we ordered a few seafood options to share. We got the shrimp burrito (with queso Chihuahua, red rice, beans, and pico de gallo), the nachos (loaded with queso Chihuahua, chipotle mayo, salsa verde, onions, and cilantro), the ceviche de camarón, and the pescado estilo baja tacos. The ceviche de camarón was a 10/10--super fresh with shrimp, rock cod, avocado, mango, and citrus. So flavorful and refreshing. The pescado estilo baja tacos were also a 10/10--perfectly battered rock cod with great texture and flavor. The shrimp burrito and nachos were solid and satisfying, especially if you're looking for something more filling. The drink menu looked really good, and I ended up ordering a mango leche, which was delicious--sweet, creamy, and refreshing. Overall, great food, great vibe, and definitely worth the visit. I can see why it was so packed the night before. I'd definitely come back.

4.5 Stars Salazar has been on my radar for quite some time, and I finally had the opportunity to check it out. It's an open-air eatery with an indoor/outdoor bar, so the fact that it was warm & sunny the day of my visit was perfect! The desert like patio provides a relaxing ambiance and an escape from the city. I can imagine it's even prettier at night. On the menu you'll find traditional Sonora style dishes with a modern twist and creative craft cocktails. Our server Will was darling - very friendly and attentive. We ordered Chips & Salsa Vaquera to share. My friend got the Pescado Estilo Baja Taco with a side of Frijoles Negros (vegan beans are also available.) I ordered the Fried Zucchini Taco and the Classic Margarita. The house made chips were light and crispy and the salsa had a slightly smoky flavor. We enjoyed them. My taco was delish! The house made tortilla was topped with a battered zucchini slice, cabbage slaw, chipotle mayo & mango Pico de Gallo. The hand shaken margarita was expertly prepared and refreshing. My friend enjoyed her taco and the beans. We were both happy that we decided to come here. While chatting and soaking in the ambience we happened to notice the resident cat lounging in the sunshine next to us. She's beautiful and her name is Monty. Will assured us that she is well cared for by the owner. (She has her own little house on the premises and her face is on the staff's hats.) Salazar is a charming place where you can enjoy good food & drink in a cozy little oasis. *Vegan & vegetarian options. *Pet friendly *Street parking

Good place to relax and enjoy. Drinks here are absolutely delicious, loved the machaca tacos. Service here is great.

Top tier 'quilles, came out quick and the tortilla chips are so fresh and the sauce is full of flavor. Highly recommend the Watermelon Margarita, it has Ancho Reyes in it to balance the sweetness. Amazing Bartender and friendly staff. Felt welcome as soon as I entered. Relaxing outdoor desert vibes with plants and succulents. The indoor bar used to be an old auto body shop and has been decorated beautifully. Thanks for everything staff!

Came to the restaurant because I was in the area and was excited to try it for the first time. We started with some agua frescos, which were amazing salsa, and guacamole. we both tried a few tacos and they really hit the spot. Service was amazing and the outdoor dining experience was very nice even though it was a hot day. Really enjoyed myself would definitely return back and also refer it to others for some authentic tasting Mexican food.

This is still one of my fav spots to come to. After the last visit- the manager was kind enough to reach out to me. So Thank You. Was able to try some new items on the menu! Fish tacos- BomB! Corn esquite Bomb! Chilaquiles/green- Bomb! And of course the drinks are tasteful and so pretty!

Such a gorgeous restaurant with one of the most pretty looking patios in town. It looks like most people who left negative reviews feel like the food is overpriced. I understand them, but don't necessarily agree with them since my meatless burrito was only $10. Was it the best burrito I've ever tried? Not by a long shot. Did I still enjoy my lunch? You bet I did!

Cute outdoor spot with lights and a lot of seating. Good drinks, had their paloma. Ceviche was amazing, came on 3 tostadadas and tried their al pastor and carne asada tacos!

I've been here a few times and really enjoy their high quality tacos and classic margaritas. It feels very local and relaxed. I particularly like their carne asada and pollo tacos, and the fish taco has a nice crunch. The guacamole and salsa always has to be good for me and both are excellent. The salsa has a nice sweetness to it and the guac is topped with tasty toasted pepitas. A great place to go before or after a Dodger game.

This was our place of choice for dinner during Frogtown Fridays. All of their seating is outside on the deck. Even as the night cooled, we stayed warm thanks to the outdoor heaters. It felt like one big patio summer barbeque or backyard cookout. My tacos were delicious and I was impressed by how buttery and soft the flour tortillas made in house were. Definitely elevated the bite. My beans and vegetables side was ok, but probaby should've just been called beans (hardly any veggies). I appreciated that our waiter gave us a rundown of what meats were particularly grilled well that day--felt personal.

    Ask the Community - Salazar

Do you allow dogs on your patio?

Yes, they are very pet friendly! My Roc has accompanied us there several times.

What happened to the trout? I don't see it on the menu and it was one of the most delicious entrees you had.

The whole place has gone to hell.

Is there indoor dining with air conditioning?

No, the entire restaurant is outside.

Yelp says you're wheelchair accessible, how do we enter the accessible entrance?

There is a paved entrance off of Ripple Dr and an accessible parking space in the driveway on Fletcher.

    Do we need a reservation?

    No but definitely helpful.

Do they allow dogs outside on the patio?

    Yes very much so

    Good for large groups?

Definitely Yes. When I was there they had several large groups and can accommodate any party size. I would give them a call and inform them so you wouldn't have any wait issues.

Are you open 12/20? There hasn't been reservations available so wanted to check your business hours

    Was it? Yes?

Are they requiring proof of vaccination?

No they're not. Masks not required either. It's outdoors

Do you have a bar area? We were looking to have a drink before our reservation

we have an outdoor waiting area with drink service

Hi, trying to find your phone number. Can't find it anywhere?

We don’t have one. info@salazarla.com can help you out

    Do I need a res for thurs 7/8 for 2 at 5:30?

No we hold tables for walk ins

Is there a phone number for reservations? I would like to reserve a party of 10 on Tuesday 6/8 around 8pm if possible?

Salazar used the app Resy to accept reservations. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/resy/id866163372

Can to take a walk in party of 4 about 5:30pm tonight?

If i come at 9:30 would i still be seated/served?

    yes

Would you take a walk in at 730 for 5 people this evening?

Walk-in Las are excepted.. but there might be a long wait. You should try and reserve using the Resy app they are on. I go by myself a lot with no reservation and it's usually a good wait, but they get me in. 5 people might take longer

Hi are you taking reservations for 2 people today?

    We are! On Resy!

    Can I bring my dog?

    yes please do

How do I make a reservation?

    Www.Resy.com is what they use

The ambiance here is pretty generic, white and bright and very copy and paste of a lot of places popping up recently. The staff was super friendly while taking our orders and dropping the food off, which is always appreciated. I ended up ordering the Santo's Turkey Melt which is smoked turkey, grilled onions, Swiss cheese, and chipotle aioli served on sourdough with a side of french fries. The sandwich was really good and the same can be said for the french fries and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of fries given, so thumbs up to that. I forgot what the food costs so I visited the website and for some reason they don't think it's important to put that online, which is pretty darn stupid if you ask me. I had many questions, and both he and his team addressed every single one with patience, care, and attention to detail. It's clear that Dave was born to host events! That level of guidance makes all the difference when you're nervours... that patience and guidance it's exactly what you want in a venue partner. Prank was an excellent choice for our event. The location is fantastic, the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the drinks and food were outstanding. Thank you so much. We will absolutely recommend Prank and keep it on our radar for future events in LA.

The open patio, the bar area and how it wraps around the corner where there is a smaller intimate section. The music was awesome, the bartender has a great pour and the people seemed to be really having a great time. As I look around I see there is an open upstairs area that looks down onto the first level. So cool right? I had a conversation with two regulars and they swear by the menu. Plans are made to come back and I must try the food when I do. Cheers!!

To be honest, I was already biased because his Smorgasburg pop-ups were consistently good. But Distrito Catorce is different , it's like art. My favorite dish was the tacos de papa with salsa macha. The crunch of the potato taco riding into the salsa macha and crema felt like home, but with some extra pop. His salsa game is on point. The scallion salsa on the ribeye taco was also gas. Lastly, I really dug the tostadita de atún. It hit perfectly on these hot summer days. Low-key, I still want to try the El Rey de Noche. Tacos de beef trompo are starting to hit LA, and dude was ahead of the curve making picanha-brisket tacos de trompo. Service is smooth too. The servers are helpful, and solid at the bar. Overall, it's a cool spot with a menu that feels unique to LA.

The food had a perfect balance of flavors. The tacos de papa is topped off with salsa macha but the spice was not overpowering. My favorite was the ribeye taco. The owners and waiter were very welcoming, hospitable and kind. 100000/10!

It's located within Hauser & Wirth which I discovered is an art gallery. When you walk through the building and enter the restaurant, it's such a big open space and doesn't feel cramped at all. Such a nice ambiance with lovely greenery and decor. Perfect for celebrations or a nice date out! Great for photos too. Across the way from the restaurant, there's even an area with fresh herbs being grown and you can even see a bunch of chickens! So if you come with little ones, they'll be super entertained and will have a great time here. We ordered a whole bunch of food and split everything. Upon seeing so many reviews for the cornbread, we had to get that and wow wow wow it is so worth the hype. Unreal. We had to order 2 because it was that good. Smoked albacore dip, ocean trout tartare, and louisiane shrimp aguachile were all good. The cara cara salad was diviiiiiine, so unique, it's a salad of oranges but it had such a unique flavor and had a slight kick to it. It's one of a kind! Both the grilled yellowtail and hangar steak were delicious, the steak comes with two eggs. Both cooked to perfection. Got a side of grilled asparagus, this one had an interesting twist with seaweed. Tasty but other dishes shined more. We ordered so much food and everything had such a beautiful presentation and was really delicious! I would come back here again in a heartbeat. One of my fave restaurants in LA, by far. Service was great too!
