I had to give props to both Pennsylvania and Maryland law makers for a never ending source of…read moreentertainment. The law is clear, if you are a PA resident you cannot purchase or possess anything but the lame ground fireworks. Yet the store specializes in the "big stuff" for out of state people, specifically Maryland residents! Though it is technically illegal to shoot off the fire works you can own as many of them as you like without fear. And for the most part, unless you are a booger eating moron and burn down the barn no one will mess with you. That leads me into my review of the store and of course the people who are not allowed to go into the store, namely PA residents. But more on that later. The store is great, the selection is pretty broad and the staff is knowledgeable. They pointed me to all of the good stuff. They also have different levels of fireworks. You can buy the cheap stuff or for a few dollars more you can get a much higher quality product. What is really popular are the aerials. The mortars and cannons that make that loud deep thunk and the a great star or whistler with the loud BOOM at the end. Pretty quality stuff and the prices are cheap. For example, I bought a 8 mortar set for $8.50 and they were excellent. You can also buy larger sets of mixed items. I spent a few hundred dollars here this year. I love the rolls of 16,000 firecrackers that went on for 30 minutes. We had a great display in the back yard and lots of fun. Now on to the locals. Seems that every toothless fool tried to get in to the place. Rednecks and fireworks are a essential combination. The most common excuse I heard was I lost my license to a DUI can I get in? Also, I heard a lot of "I forgot my license" and promises that they were not PA residents. I don't think it is a great idea to have someone who lost their license to be allowed to buy fireworks. That did not seem to stop them. These folks were in the parking lot trying to get out of state people to buy them for them. Like a 15 year trying to get the adult to buy them beer they would not relent. The fun part was the local police had someone across the street waiting to nail these idiots when the trade went down. So the moral of this lesson is move to Maryland! Keep your house in order, little boys and girls should not play with fireworks! Great place to go for some clean fun. They also have incentive programs for when you spend over 101 and up. I will go there every year from now on!

Today was the third annual craft beer festival, part of Philly Beer Week. The event was held down…read morein the Naval yard, and you had to have a ticket just to get in the area. It was a giant tasting, with everyone getting a little glass with 2-4 ounce markings on it. Supposedly every brewery was to give 2 ounces, but most filled you up to 4. There were scores of breweries there, and I must have tried every type of beer imaginable, not every one great, but several worth remembering (my friend wrote them down, thank goodness!). My favorite moments - beer bingo, and beer waves, starting at one end of the long building and moving to the other, with everyone cheering and raising their glassesd as it approached. There were food stations, which cost extra but not extravagantly so. Everyone was well-mannered, even though you were more likely to bump shoulders with others as the night wore on, the crowd grew thicker, and navigation skills deteriorated. Many local breweries were absent, and a discussion thread elsewhere mentioned that there may have been a boycott due to low reimbursement rates offered to the breweries for attendance. There was lots of beer-themed merchandise for sale, with some very cool t-shirts. Oh well, I had a great time, with my first Milk Stout (from a Lancastetr brewery) and waaaaay too many others to mention. Or remember.

Lexus owners/drivers received some nice perks (free VIP parking, luxury suite amenities, and additional wines/cuisine to sample). All you had to do was show your Lexus key fob and you're in. I felt like a big-shot by gaining us access to the lounge with flash of my key. Ooh la la! This event boasts hundreds of wines to sample and upscale food to nosh on. No giant pretzels nor hotdogs here! VIP tickets allow for early admission as well as a guided tour of the Eagles locker room, press room, and the tunnel they pass through prior to running onto the field. Even I was pretty starstruck by being so close to the action and I am not even an Eagles fan! The event was not overly crowded and we loved that there were ample fresh wine glasses at every turn, as well as ample water stations. Wine in that volume can be very dehydrating, so we were thrilled to keep our whistles wet with some H2O. It's held indoors so no worries about cooperation (or lack thereof) from Mother Nature. We found some delicious wines that we were able to purchase and take home that evening. They have a wine purchase area, but no worries if your favorite vino is not on hand...you can order anything and everything you sampled. This event needs to be held in Philadelphia quarterly!

The family really goes all out!…read more The home is DRIPPING in lights, Clark is out front, as is the 1989 Ford Taurus family station wagon complete with the oversized Christmas tree they plucked right from the ground, roots and all! There's even the 1984 Chicago cop car with flashing lights! Of course, this scene wouldn't be complete without crazy Cousin Eddy and his RV!!! This is THEE coolest! He looks JUST like him and waves too! It's kind of unreal! The characters are actually made of latex and have been commissioned from an artist in California The family who owns the house, The Harbaughs', seem like the absolute sweetest! Their goal each of the past three years they've decorated is to fill the RV with Toys For Tots! The toys will specifically be given to the children at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, so if you visit, definitely bring one or a few! They don't need to be wrapped! There is also a donation box! Please give! The first year they collected donations they accumulated more than 4,000 toys! Last year that total topped out at 9,000 toys!! Cops are patrolling the street and directing traffic so it wasn't crazy at all! You can surely drive-by in your vehicle or if you feel safe, there's a cul-de-sac right behind the house with a clearly marked path! Usually, you can get up close and take photos IN the set but this year because of Covid there is a barrier. This infamous house, which gets lit on Thanksgiving and stays that way until New Years Day has gained much buzz! Even Clark, played by Chevy Chase, and Ellen, played by Beverly D'Angelo, sent the family a video shout out! Way cool! By the way, you're totally going to want to go home and rewatch this classic again! .
