What a glorious building, the front is adorned with what must be over 100 structures, a magnificent feat of architecture, entry is 'free', well not really, a suggested donation of £5+ is requested, surely it should be up to the individual what they contribute and not 'monitored'? If you only go to one cathedral in England, visit this one. Built in 1220 at an amazing pace, its style is breathtaking in its consistency. The architects, builders and masons were talented beyond belief. The small chapels inside the church and the windows are all worth visiting. The new baptismal font has a serenity that amplifies the beauty around it. Just amazing to think about the thousands of parishioners who have called this their Christian Home. The side benefit of seeing a surviving copy of the Magna Carta can not be understated. So much history in a lovely place. The gift shop has a great selection of books. If you're like me, I prefer to make my souvenir purchases in places that will use the money to benefit the location. The suggested donation is 7.50. A family of four can enter for 15 at their recommendation. Truly an honor to contribute to maintaining this wonderful monument. read more

£5 entry for adults, bit difficult to park the car car nearby. For the Cathedral itself it was very cool. And knowing the Magna Carter was there too was worth the money. I didn't go up the Spire but wish I had the time too as it seemed really, maybe next time ha. The tour guides a very helpful and very knowledgeable about the building, also enthused by it which made the experience there better. The window of lost souls was pretty cool too. We spent about 1.5 hours at the gorgeous Salisbury Cathedral as part of a private day trip to Stonehenge. It is now on our bucket list to return for a longer visit, I think we could easily spend an entire day going through the Cathedral, the Magna Carta exhibit and the Tower Tour. There is a suggested donation which we gladly paid to help with the upkeep of this historic Anglican church. The guides inside the Cathedral had some interesting stories to tell about the construction. I loved the complexity of the structure combined with the understated, elegant finishings. This was not a gilded church, the finishings were extremely tasteful. The Magna Carta exhibition was very interesting. It amazed me how someone could write so small and neat with a quill. read more

Stonehenge, Bath and Salisbury Cathedral all in one day. I was truly awestruck as we came up to the structure. We just don't have buildings like this in the U.S. - at least in the obvious historical context. I surprises to see how vandalized the tombs were. Hundreds of years of initials and names carved into the stone. Maybe that actually ads to the color a bit though. So, I would strongly advise a visit. read more

We took the train from London to Salisbury and from there, a bus to Stonehenge, the old Castle Sarum and the Salisbury Cathedral. The Cathedral is an amazing site to see, especially if you love history. It is packed full of historical and architectural eye candy as well as crypts dating as far back as the 12th century. The Cathedral also has on display an original Magna Carta. Amazing! The staff were all knowledgeable and friendly. Be sure to explore the surrounding shopping and dining areas as well! Having heard so much about Salisbury Cathedral over the years, I finally went to see for myself what all the fuss is about. The cathedral takes a place of pride in the sleepy town of Salisbury. As local landmarks go, it doesn't get better than this. The cathedral is huge, more so on the inside than the outside it seems. One really gets the sense of medieval grandeur while exploring this imposing place. I particularly liked the stained glass windows, which on a sunny day were revealed in all their glory. The oldest clock in the world is also here, dating from the 14th century. It is hard not to feel a sense of awe while walking through this amazing place of worship. Panels marking the graves of local notables buried in the cathedral crypt, were also of interest to me. There was a choir singing at midday. The acoustics were amazing, sending shivers down my spine. The grounds are equally impressive and would make a wonderful picnic spot. The locals seemed to think so anyway. By the lunchtime, the place was getting really busy indeed. Another thing worth mentioning is that the entry is completely free, but you might want to leave a small donation. A place like this more than deserves it. read more

As a resident of Salisbury, the cathedral is a site that I see all the time and the last visit to this majestic monument was probably long ago as a child before I left to see the other wonders of the world on my travels. To me, it is that feeling, when you see it again, that you are home, to others it is a building steeped in history and a marvelous example of medieval architecture. I have seen pictures of the view across the city from the spire when my father went up in the 1980s but never ventured there myself. It just has not been on my list of things to do, but I think it should be at some point. read more

Salisbury Cathedral is a beautiful building, and well worth a visit. The elegant spires are amazing from the outside, and there's a tower tour which I thoroughly recommed for getting inside the skin of the building and absorbing its architectural history. the guides take you up in small groups, and it's exciting threading your way past beams and up steep stairs. They guides are both knowledgeable and good communicators, making the architecture and the history come alive. There are good views from the tower over the surrounding city and countryside. Outside the cathdral, Elizabeth Frink's statue 'walking madonna' is worth taking time to study. read more

This was the talest Spire in the world at one point and inside its very impressive too. The surrounding Cathedral garden is a nice place to sit and have a spot of lunch when the sun is out as its a relaxed atmosphere and peaceful. Apart from that, there isnt alot else to do unless your into Jesus. read more
