We ordered the mushrooms in creamy sauce with dumplings, and they were amazing. The mushrooms were rich and savory, coated in a luscious creamy sauce that paired beautifully with the soft, pillowy dumplings. Comfort food at its absolute best! We also had their signature oxtail, and this was the real showstopper. The meat was incredibly tender, rich, and bursting with deep, savory flavor. Every bite was hearty and satisfying, and the sauce was perfect with the sides. We paired everything with a Kaiser Karm dark beer, which was fantastic--smooth, rich, and a great match for the meal. For dessert, we had their Sacher Torte, which was also really good and a lovely way to finish such a flavorful meal. Service was fantastic and impressively quick. They offer online reservations, but if you can't get one, don't hesitate to stop by. There's ample outdoor seating and limited indoor seating, so walk-ins are definitely worth trying. The atmosphere has a great traditional Salzburg vibe, and the location is super convenient right in the heart of the city. Fantastic food, great beer, excellent service--highly recommend stopping here when you're in Salzburg!

We went with the local favorites The Goulosh plater with dumplings and a Bratwurst to share each. Although I never drink beer, I opted to try thier local brew. Our server Simone was very nice and gave us some of her local suggestions. The Fiod was very tasty! The Goulosh was the right amount for lunch and a huge dumpling ball to go with it. the Bratwurst was good but no bread with it. more of a meal with potatos. All the service was great in this old world 162 year old establishment.

We were sat at the opposite end of the table from another couple in a little room. The servers were plenty friendly and spoke good English to assist us. My husband got a burger and I ordered the Mac and cheese and a salad and we shared. It was a lot of food! We also ordered the pancake shredded dessert which came with a jelly type of sauce. Everything was good but it was sooo heavy. I certainly recommend sharing so that you have enough room in your stomach. We would return next time we were in Salzburg.

Bärenwirt is a great traditional Gasthaus for some hearty Austrian food while in Salzburg!…read more We ordered the goulash with potato dumplings, and this was easily the highlight of the meal. The goulash was amazingly flavorful, rich and hearty, and the potato dumplings were the perfect accompaniment. We also tried the deep-fried chicken with potato salad. The chicken was juicy and nicely fried, and while it wasn't anything mind-blowing, it was definitely good. The potato salad was also really nice and paired well with the chicken. We made a reservation even though it was a Sunday night, and I'm glad we did. The place had a great mix of locals and tourists, and seeing quite a few locals dining there was definitely reassuring. The atmosphere has that classic traditional Gasthaus vibe--casual, lively, and focused on good food. If you're looking for traditional Austrian food in a relaxed Gasthaus setting, Bärenwirt is definitely worth a visit.
