Great food! The schnitzel was great and the ribs were even better. I highly recommend this place.

Had a dinner reservation for 12/26/16 at 6:00 PM. In typical Vienna restaurant and café fashion these days, service was rushed and not congenial. In their hurry to get as many customers in an out as possible, they almost hit my father with a tray. It's not the bloody food races, slow the f down and respect your customers, especially the elderly ones! Our waiter had an attitude (hello, we're your paycheck! Learn some service skills!) and when I asked for a not-so-cold bottle of water (because, hey, it's December, I don't want to get a sore throat), he seemed annoyed and said "you should've told me before" (like, when? Before you brought the bottle and I touched it and realized it was freezing?) The food was meh. read more

Our pension referred us to this restaurant. It was extremely busy, which seemed like a good sign. We were asked if we could be at a shared table, which was fine. We ordered and the food was ok. Nothing special. We were 3/4 through our meal when the waiter asked us to switch tables due to a mistake on their part. Wow. Our forks in mid-air, I asked if we could get a dessert for our trouble. He nodded a hasty yes. We picked up our own plates and moved. We stood around waiting to be reseated, and finally got the dessert menu. We ordered and when we got the bill the desserts were there. We asked nicely about it and the waiter blew up at us. We were stuck between being "rude" tourists or "pushover" tourists. We opted for "rude" and didn't pay for dessert (or tip). Recommended by our local landlord, we were initially dismayed by the fact that all touristy types were relegated to the basement. My husband had sauerkraut that was tasteless and watery, which I would consider a sin in these parts, combination platter--sausage, schweinbraten, etc.--was nothing to write home about. My weissbraten was okay. Service condescending but adequate. Would not recommend. There are plenty of other great places in Vienna. Don't waste time with this one. read more

Not only do they make their own, fantastic beer, they also have gorgeous food. The potato dumplings filled with minced meet are served with sauerkraut and are very satisfying. The dark beer is also worth a try. The pub/restaurant is not far away from the city centre and there is a tram going that way. read more

Industrial-grade Austro-German restaurant: This isn't Michelin star stuff, but good, honest Teutonic food, well-cooked and accompanied by truly excellent beer, served by friendly and efficient staff in delightful surroundings and with absolutely enormous portions. It was a holiday weekend when we went, had to queue for a table, but they were incredibly organised and efficient - our total waiting time was no more than 15 minutes. We staggered in, starving and thirsty and waddled out, replete, some time later. Definitely recommended. read more

After a stimulating visit to the Belvedere's exhibitions be warned ... do not expect similar quality from the Salm Brauerie contained withinthe Belvedere walls on the Rennweg. We arrived at 3pm, 4 people wanting 4 plates of food. We ordered beers and soft drinks, and 1 plate of gulasch, 1 bowl of pumpkin soup, and 2 plates of Wiener sausage with senf. The soup arrived after 15 minutes and was cold. 1 plate of sausage and the gulasch arrived 10 minutes later (after the soup had been consumed) and both were lukewarm and unappealing. The waitress's attitude when asked whether the fourth plate was coming was to tell us she only had one pair of hands. The manager's attitude was similar. Had we not been told that the cold food would be warmed for us? Twenty five minutes is not a long time! Since the food appeared to have been microwaved in the first place, we were expected to believe they would get it right the second time. Then any pretence of customer service vanished. The manager's voice was raised and we were told we didn't understand. Strange this as my sister is a fluent German speaker based in Vienna. So DON'T GO if you wish to maintain any faith in the food and service for which Vienna is famous. read more

My boyfriend and I chose to go here for New Year's Eve based on reviews and were quite disappointed. The service and the beer was good but the food was not. The chicken cordon bleu was coated well but it was greasy and not flavorful. The roast pork was extremely fatty, consisting of about 10% meat and the bread dumplings were dry and not tasty. The 2 small pieces of bread left on the table are 7.50 euro which we thought was quite expensive considering the size and quality. They were simply pretzel breads. We were not aware that they would charge us and it left our experience even more bitter! The decoration and the costumes made it feel like a tourist trap but perhaps that should have been our signal when we arrived. Lesson learned! read more

Thank you for the previous reviews which meant I found this lively Austrian restaurant when I was giving up hope of anything near the Lower Belvedere, where some of the staff wear traditional dress, eg lederhosen. The decor inside is very inviting but on a fine day it's lovely to sit outside where there is plenty of seating. They specialise in various beers and meat dishes. However, not being a meat eater I was pleased to find 2 fish and more veggie dishes on the menu. I settled for the fried fish (which came coated in breadcrumbs) with a piece of lemon and a side dish of delicious Austrian speciality, potato salad (which bears no resemblance to the British one, served with mayonnaise!). This went well with the wheat beer I chose. I followed this with warm apricot and curd strudel and cream. I wouldn't choose this dessert again but the fish and potato were very good. The staff are quite friendly but busy so don't expect them to have time to chat. read more

Do yourself a favor and go eat at - or rather dine heartily at - the venerable Salm Brau adjacent to the Belvedere Palace. Although the winter line was long (a good 30 minutes), it was well worth the wait. Upon entry, you are greeted by very pleasant and smiling staff, while the sounds and smells of a busy Austrian gusthaus percolate through the air. We ordered a hefty sampling of food including the very delectable beer, pumpkin and garlic soups alongside some crispy kartoffel while we awaited our main meal. Now coming from Texas, we know a thing or two about meat and beer, but let me tell you the spare ribs and the Helles and Wiesen bier were to die for! I've rarely tasted such succulent and well-basted ribs, and the two-person portion we ordered could've easily fed a small basketball team. Suffice it to say, you know you're eating good meat when you don't have to add a single thing to it. Just munch away with delight and wash it all down with what could be considered some of the best tasting beer this side of Milwaukee. Oh, and don't forget the truly amazing Apfelstrudel - the best warming end to a chilly (albeit sunny) winter day! read more
