The Challis Public Library is located at the primary corner in Downtown Challis, Idaho, population…read more909. It is "catty-corner" from the Post Office and across the street from The HUB--arguably the most popular spot in Challis. The library is small but cozy. It was the former Post Office before the "new" one was built many years ago. Linda H. is the Chief Librarian but you're more likely to see Shannon, Sandy or Jo behind the desk. They have four public internet terminals and at least three of them usually work. The kids gum them up with games and malware so be careful! It wouldn't surprise me if there was a keylogger in that system. Challis is connected to all the other Idaho libraries so you can get just about anything you want via interlibrary loan. Challis residents donate all their magazines and there's a great free selection right inside the front door. There's a nice napping chair in the children's section and a fine selection of books for sale in the back room. The libary's selection of Idaho-themed books is great for a small library. The hours are eclectic so check their website. It's an angelfire website so be careful--there are those weird ads in the banners. The Challis library is definitely a throwback to the Happy Days Era--a place where you'll always be greeted with a smile and a friendly "hello."
