Salon Bernardo is a darling place in the downtown Fullerton area. I have been coming here to see Irma often for many years. They are an Aveda salon and specialize in everything in addition to selling Aveda products retail. Irma's always ready when I get there and has me looking fabulous and walking out within 2 1/2 hours. She is very experienced and her highlights and colors and cuts are the best and the place is the cutest, as well as being a very relaxing, comfortable salon unlike some of the Larger crazy hustle and bustle where you shuttle through like sheep for seven hours at a time. read more

I just want to say that I received the best haircut in my entire life from Irma (owner) of salon Bernardo!!! Her hair cutting skills are exceptional! She spent so much time perfecting my cut until it was just perfect! When I went in my hair color was uneven and faded plus and inch-inch and a half of regrowth. Both my daughter and I have been having our hair done for the last two years at Salon B, and we have worked with Jessica and Daisy. I typically have a haircut and blonde highlights. I have been going to this salon for a few years now and absolutely love everything about it. Everyone is always so friendly and nice- I have never had a bad experience there. Jeff is an amazing hairdresser, I won't go to anyone else but him. It's always so clean inside, and everyone offers you water, coffee, wine, etc. while you're there to make you feel at home. Their products are amazing as well- sometimes they have deals or give you samples to try (which obviously hook you!). I know they are more than a salon, however I have not tried their spa treatments yet. read more

The environment is friendly, welcoming, and extremely clean. I was able to get an appointment the next day! Carmina was absolutely wonderful. For those ladies with long locks that want to maintain the length, it can be kind of scary to get a haircut. However, she listened to what I wanted and then gave her professional opinion as to how to achieve that look. And, of course, she was right! I am totally impressed by the work she did--my hair still looks really long but has a lot more movement in it. I am so impressed by this salon and Carmina that I am referring my mom and the other ladies in my family to try it out. I had been dying my hair black for a year on and off box color and professional color. Within one treatment, Just got my hair to a great looking highlighted brown. After six weeks I went back and Jess got me back to almost my original color pre-black hair streak. I am so impressed, being that my original hair color was initially pretty ashy due to my caramel tones and gray hair. I am super happy that I am now at the point where I can grow out my hair and not have to color anymore. Jess also gave me a great cut that is slightly A-lined and pretty short. She cut my thick hair with a razor and was able to get my hair to lay well - considering my hair is naturally very thick. Great color, cut and conversation. Holy amazing experience. Firstly, this is the cutest dang salon EVER because it is in a little house. Think San Francisco Castro district house. Parking can be a bit of a pill but there are options if you're willing to walk a whole few minutes to your car and back. I went with my best friend who was getting her rainbow mermaid hair cut and layered for the first time in years. It was down to her mid back if not longer and she has LOTS of fine thick hair that literally eats layers like nothing I have ever seen haha Well the amazingly talented Jessica was definitely up for the challenge. Don't be fooled because she is "newer" in the salon - she has many many years of Aveda salon experience and it shows. She worked some serious magic on my friend. Went from all one layer of long copious amounts of hair to a beautiful light layered summery cut that actually made it look like she got her hair redyed it was amazing. She used all sorts of various techniques to help tackle getting visible layers and was totally successful. Then the best part for me was she was able to squeeze me in right after my friend for a quick haircut! I don't know if I have ever loved my hair as much as I do right now. She renewed the highlights even in my hair just by cutting away the damage and left it smooth and voluminous. Definitely want to come back to get my hair cut here and the pricing is super reasonable! I've been going to Salon Bernardo since I was 14 or so (been 10 years! wow!) Carmina is wonderful, I'm so sad that I'm moving away and can't count on her for my hair's pampering. She listens and gives sublime head massage with oils. Gabby is my gal for my perm (no, it's not the 1980s, I am just stuck with naturally straight hair and love a loose body perm!). She always does a wonderful job, no one can tell it's a perm because she makes it look so natural. If it weren't for the skilled ladies here, I would still give the place 5 stars for the Aveda products and Aveda experience you get here. If you haven't made the switch, do it! Your hair and skin will be so happy. The tea is delicious and the converted home is cozy and smells good all the time. Plus you can pop on over to Downtown Fullerton to show off your new 'do afterwards! (Ahem, Burger Parlor! ;)) read more

I just moved to the OC and needed to find a new stylist but it's such an important decision I didn't want to go just anywhere. I first found the salon on the Aveda website. Then checked the reviews here. Even though the rating was high, I was a little skeptical because the reviews were sparse and most were a few years old but thought it would be a smaller salon and more attentive to customers needs. And I was completely correct. I called in this morning and left a message to try to get a same day appointment. Irma called me back in a few minutes and said Jessica one of the stylists had a cancelation and they could accommodate me at 1 which was perfect for my schedule. The salon is in a house in downtown Fullerton. There's street parking in the front or a lot in the back. The back entrance felt more like the prominent entrance but the front door was wide open and I was greeted promptly when I arrived. Irma was great at welcoming me. Got me water. Seated me. Great. I'm pretty picky about my hair. I use salon products, never grocery store brands and would never visit a super cuts or any chain like they for my hair but I also don't want to spend over 150. The price point here seemed reasonable and on target. Jessica was great. She asked great questions about my hair and preferences and then listened to get to know me. She's very nice and my hair looks great. I am so pleased. I already booked my follow up appointment. All the other stylists seemed great too and everyone got along. No one was loud and obnoxious like in some busy salons. It seemed to be a healthy environment and I felt comfortable the whole time. Salon Benardo is a must see. This review is long overdue. My hair has been black for over 5 years and it was always box dyed. I started letting my hair grow out but my hair was becoming two-toned. My boss who also comes here said that I should make an appointment with Jeff. Jeff transformed my hair. He was able to strip all the black out of my hair and bring me to a red that didn't look brassy. I saw him in January and came back today and he touched up my roots so they blended with the bottom of my hair. I absolutely love it. If you ever do come here, go see Jeff. He works wonders and does an amazing job. I have a really sensitive head and he makes sure to be really gentle with my hair. He also explains everything he is doing and asks your opinion. Jeff doesn't do anything without consulting with you first and makes sure it is something you want. He also offers his opinion but doesn't force anything you don't want to do. Salon Benardo is one of the best small businesses who knows how to treat their customers and keeps us coming back. Irma is amazing with scissors and color.
