I was planning hair and makeup for my maternity photoshoot, and chose Kimberly at the recommendation of a friend -- I can see why she raved about her. She's seriously skilled, meticulous but quick with her craft, and a total sweetheart. My makeup and hair -- a whole ethereal / pseudo-bohemian look I was going for -- turned out exactly as I envisioned. Makeup was perfectly delicate, contoured, and looked amazing in pics. My hair and makeup lasted ALL DAY through a windy, chilly photoshoot. I had been here once before for a bridal makeup trial with Mackenzie which came out amazing. She's so nice and really listens to what your vision is. I can't wait to work with her for my wedding. She really works with you as a team to get the achieved look you want. I was lucky to have Adam work on my hair today as well, and I was in love with the cut he did. My hair came out beautiful and it's not the easiest to work with. Everyone there seems to be so dedicated to their work, but also very friendly despite the stress this pandemic has had on everyone. Overall I had a gold experience with Salon Loka for my wedding day. My one gripe is that I was specifically looking for a salon that offered airbrush makeup. My bridesmaids and I paid Salon Loka for airbrush makeup and on the wedding day, amongst the hustle and bustle I realized there was no airbrush being done. When I was getting my makeup done I asked about airbrush and they responded "we're not doing it, it doesn't last as long throughout the day" which has never been my experience with it. Nevertheless, I should have been notified and involved in this decision to not use airbrush because as I mentioned, we all paid for this service. I'm mildly terrified of hair salons, but everyone at Salon Loka was super helpful and kind. In the hour I was there, I saw the front desk person really go out of her way to help people out (one customer had gotten lost and was late for their appointment; one set of people came in looking for their daughter). I was very happy with the haircut Skyler gave me, and she was extremely kind and professional throughout. My daughter and I went in for a shampoo/style after a week at the beach. Skylar and Cammy were our stylists. We had the worst blowouts ever. They seem inexperienced to handle our long thick hair. The style was simple to complete. We will not return next summer. Nor recommend to friends. Totally worth the 1.5 hour drive! I live south of Boston and did a crazy amount of research for a micro blade artist that had natural looking results. Mackenzie's work was exactly what I was looking for plus her price was lower than what you see in the Boston area. After my first of 2 appointments (it's a 2 step process), I knew this would be a perfect spot to also get my hair cut and colored. I ended up booking my brow touch up, hair cut and color for the same day and was so happy with the results. Mackenzie gave me 3 hours of attention and really listened to what I wanted. I will definitely be returning! Worth noting: the salon is beautifully decorated, the music gives a good vibe (not annoying for a 3 hour appointment) and literally the most comfortable hair washing sinks I've ever sat in. read more

It took almost a year to correct the ridiculous hair cut I did not ask for from this $$$ salon. The chaos in the salon did not help as walk in customers squished in -even attempting to bring beach chairs inside this narrow one room "Salon". The staff were all treated to cold drinks while the clients were bumped, moved around, and left for stretches of time for conversation with entering and exiting people. No worker can nor wants to do manicures. The worst was washing my hair and finding entire length uneven with wacky chopping of random pieces. The female stylist was younger than the rest-maybe inexperienced. Terrible- like Cheap Cuts at a strip mall with a student hairdresser and less ambiance. read more

I spent my whole life trying to spend 6 dollars on a haircut and then one day I needed a haircut quick and bit the bullet and stopped into Salon Loka. I told Adam I didn't really know exactly what I wanted but he said no problem, gave me a haircut and showed me how to actually style my hair. I recently vacationed in Ogunquit and decided to get a beach perm at Salon Loka. The hair dresser was very sweet, but unfortunately didn't consider or perhaps was not knowledgable about my type of hair because after 2 times (kind of them to do it twice) there is very little wave. Even I know that you can't roll tons of hair in a roller and expect to get much curl- the second time she put less hair in the front, but still no wave- very disappointed that I wasted my money. I'm not recommending them for #beachwaves but can't speak for other services. read more

I am writing this review about manicure experience. I arrived to the salon 10 minutes before my appointment, nail lady arrived at the exact time of my appointment. Whatever, NBD, I thought. Then she did couple things, picked up a ringing phone and then came to me asking if I picked color. She sat down at the manicure table without washing or disinfecting her hands, picked up a random nail sharpener and started to polish my nail saying that's how you take off the color. I asked her to just soak mine off, because I don't want to damage my nail, and I ALWAYS soak off my polish. She said - OH, THATS NOT GONNA WORK, YOU CANT TAKE OFF SHELLAC LIKE THAT. Well normal salons are doing it exactly that way. Also the whole situation with tools, hands, towels etc is very unclear. How can you not disinfect your hands before working with a client?? How do I know who used this nail tool she used if it was just laying on the table?? Even the table towel was ALREADY on the table when I came in, which makes me think it was used the day before. Because why would you leave a "clean" towel laying on the table overnight?? And the way it looked you can def see it was already used for couple clients. Also the "tools" she uses are very weird and unprofessional. She literally took cotton pieces and start ripping it apart in pieces with her hands, she also did the same thing with foils. It all looked so messy and not neat and just cheap. They advertise themselves as a semi nice salon. I did not expect what I see. And also when she saw my concerns instead of comforting a client and offering me some options she said - IF UOU DONT LIKE SOMETHING YOU CAN LEAVE. Like WTF?? What kind of customer service is this, I just asked to soak off my polish, that's it. I knew I wasnt coming to a high end salon, I didn't complain about dirtiness of this place, about the dirty towels and not washed hands. But after those words of course I left. Do not get your nails done here, and if you do make sure you don't catch an infection or something because nobody worries about disinfection here read more

My step mother and I went into Salon Loka for both hair and makeup appointments for a wedding in the area. We were quoted at $85 for each appointment and decided that was a great price. We booked the appointments ahead of time to make sure there were no issues. Immediately when we got to the salon one hair stylist informed us that we should not request so much stuff to do because they had appointments after ours that they had to get to. This should have been a red flag as they should be able to handle their own time management. Throughout both appointments all of the stylists were on their phones while having bad attitudes or snarky remarks about everything. They kept telling us that they had appointments after ours although we were the only ones in the shop. When everything was said and done each appointment was $130 although we were quoted at $85 each. This salon seemed very expensive for the quality of work they do and the overall poor customer service. read more

I used Salon Loka for hair and makeup for my wedding last weekend. They were able to schedule 7 of us for the morning for a variety of services. I had my hair done by Adam and could not have been more pleased. I wanted to not look overdone and wanted my hair to stay all night- I was concerned about the "elements". Adam was fun to work with, my hair turned out AMAZING, and lasted through pictures on windy Marginal way, the ceremony, a night of dancing and partying. When I took out my hair that night it felt as though it barely had any product in it and I maybe had to take out 6 bobby pins. My hair is curly and frizzes easily- I truly don't know how he did it. My makeup was done by Deb. Again, I wanted a natural look as I wear very little makeup daily. She did a wonderful job! Deb and Adam made me feel and look like myself which is what I wanted.
