I was a walk-in. I was greeted. One stylist working on her co-worker. Whatever. You need practice,…read moreyou need practice. lol. 1st thing... I understand the concept of "casual friday" but there is still an expectation on SOME type of professionalism. So that was a little disappointing. I spent over $120 and was dismayed that the 5min hair dryer usage costed money. Dont get me wrong, i will pay for a service that i get, I am just saying that she didnt ever bother STYLING my hair while she was blow-drying my hair. That was diappointing. I guess i will be asking first next time. I dont go to a salon very often (i have only been maybe 10x in my life) and every other time the blow-dry and/or style was free. All in all, i was taken care of. My stylist was nice and thorough but it was not an epic visit.

I called as soon as SmartStyle opened because I needed to know if anyone was present who could…read morestyle natural, African American hair. The lady who answered said that she could, so I drove to Magnolia. There were two ladies ahead of me, so I knew it was going to be a wait. After a while of waiting, the stylist whom I had talked with on the phone approached me and Inquired about my contact information so she could put me in the system. I brought my own products and asked her could I use them, and she basically told me that it was against their protocol- which makes sense. Some people mess it up for everyone. She told me what products she used and I said ok. During my wait I noticed a few things : The music wasn't censored AT ALL- so if you're sensitive about that, that may be an issue. The F word I heard a few times. After a few songs, Chris Browns' "some more" came on, and a lady with the medium length red hair went back and turned it off, which was great because there was a child present. So kudos to her. Earlier, however, that same stylist, who turned off the music, was free (two other stylists were occupied with clients). She was told by one other stylist to go see about a client who had walked in a few minutes prior. This client had conversed with the stylist who I was waiting on, and she told the client that it would be a while, so the client sat in an unoccupied chair. Anyway, the stylist, after being told to go see about the client, walked over towards the register saying "Closed mouths don't get fed." I guess that was Basically implying that the client should've said something If she wanted to get serviced--at least that's what I gathered from the situation. (I'm very observant because just because I come in for one stylist, I need to know who I would like to style my hair in case of their absence.) anyway -she did make conversation with The client when she was styling her hair. Even complimenting her and laughing with her- so she can't be ALL that bad (her attitude seems like it could be) - They are clean, sweeping up hair as soon as they are done with one client before proceeding to the next. The experience. Cheryl started my hair. She washed and massaged my scalp. Conditioned it and rinsed that right out. Then I went to the chair and she blow dried my hair in sections. She then flat ironed it. I didn't get to see the name of the flat iron, but it must not have been a very good one because she had to make 4-6 passes over my hair per section (I'm used to just one). I definitely can't go get a flat iron every two weeks. I rarely put heat on my hair because my hair seems to be easily damaged. One flat iron won't hurt- but I won't be doing this again for a while. She trimmed my ends well. I needed that- it was the main reason I came. I am happy with the trim. She talked with me about hair and hair growth. She's really cool, and I plan on coming back for another trim whenever that time comes (if I'm still around). My hair poofed up because of the humidity though. That's a natural girl problem, but I think I will go get flat wrapped somewhere else and stick to the trims here!!
