We had a retirement dinner at a great restaurant in North Massapequa, NY, Sal's Place. This is a local restaurant with a great history and great food. Our waitress, Marie, was delightful. We had a big group of twenty and Marie handled it with ease. Our drinks were served quickly and always with a smile. We were in a semi-private room in the back of the restaurant and it worked as we had some speeches and lots of well wishing to our retiring employee. The room was comfortable and reminded me of an English pub. We had a buffet of strip steak with gravy, salmon in cream sauce, pasta in a cheese sauce, roasted potatoes, mixed veggies and toasted rolls. The food was so good, I went back for seconds! This a great place to throw a party and/or have lunch or dinner. Some of the party goers told me Sal's hamburgers are the best they have ever had. I can't wait to go back there with my wife and our friends for dinner. If you're in North Massapequa, this is a definite restaurant you need to eat at and you won't be disappointed! You should get there early because parking fills up fast. It's a popular place! It's a definite place to watch sports (e.g., football, basketball, soccer, hockey and baseball). We had a very enjoyable meal this afternoon, with polite and excellent service by Joseph. We both chose the chicken, steak fajita combo, perfectly seasoned, sizzling hot, really a best ever fajita choice. Lots of bottled and draft beer choices, lots of sports on the many tv's. Was there last night for an elementary class reunion ! Sal's is a popular local restaurant with a large bar. We stood and sat near high tables at the bar . It was lively , but not too loud to enjoy chatting with old classmates ! We drank Beer by the pitcher and glass ! The bartender was attentive and friendly . we ordered apps : zucchini sticks , popcorn shrimp , large pretzels and potato skins. Food was hot and yummy with generous portions . Our server doubled as photographer and did a great job ! I would totally recommend as a meet up place . I would also go back for dinner read more

I came here for an event on Saturday afternoon. The tables were set up nicely. The food was served buffet style. The Caesar salad was perfectly chilled and crisp. The penne Al la vodka was steaming hot and delicious. The eggplant rollatini was stuffed with creamy ricotta and was absolutely delicious. I was happy to see they served chicken Marsala. It's one of my favorites and it didn't disappoint. I loved the hint of Marsala wine and the mushrooms were perfect. I usually stay away from beef dishes, but the steak terryaki looked so good, I tried it. I loved the barbecue flavor it had and the sauce was scrumptious. The rice pilaf was good; the the green bean almondine was served perfectly cooked, with a little crunch to it. The rolls were nice and fresh. I would recommend this restaurant and would go back if I'm ever in that area. read more

Getting together with old friends over the holidays is my second-favorite thing to do...and Sal's Place is where it goes down. A local Plainedge spot. Heard a lot of good things. I was alone, ordered a burger for take out. Well it DID NOT disappoint ! Very good proper burger. If I had to complain about something it would probably be the thimble sized cole slaw serving. Definitely not a deal killer. read more

Sal's Place, man, this spot is one of the best. Been going here for years, and they never miss, new ownership or old. The Texas Gold wings extra crispy are stupid good, roll the dice on the burgers it don't matter, you'll have a good time regardless. Good pickles too. The bar is always packed, which we love to see. TVs playing all the games, great spot for football. I'm not a beer guy so much any more myself, I'm an adult, but their selection is solid. Real good drinks. Nice hometown bar and grill with pretty decent food. I've been here a few times and have never been disappointed. Right when you walk in you get the local bar feel and can tell atleast half the customers are regulars. They have the local HS sports mascot names on the bar wall which is cool along with some long sports pictures. My favorite thing here food wise is there wings. The sauce is delicious and the wings are breaded and cook perfectly. Definitely my favorite local wing spot in the Massapequa/wantagh area. There burgers and sandwiches are also good, which I've had a few different kinds. Staff is friendly and the bartenders aren't shy to give you a buy back which is most appreciated. We dropped in on a Saturday night before Halloween and the decor and staff were dressed for the occasion. Super fun. We were seated after only a few minute wait. Staff was so kind and friendly, especially our waitress Gina. We started off with the calamari with marinara appetizer. So delicious and crunchy. You could tell that it was made fresh, not frozen. And it was a large serving, perfect for sharing. We each had different sandwiches. The marinated skirt steak was fantastic but the bread didn't taste too garlicky. My son's Texas chicken sandwich was the hit of the night. Barbecue sauce, peppers and onions were on point! Sal's checks all the boxes for a night out with the family! read more

Absolutely phenomenal. Every entree tasted fresh, and was served piping hot. I had the octopus starter and the fra diavolo as the main. What was also complimentary was a second octopus starter because the waiter knew we were planning to share, so we each got our own. Also, the complimentary fudge dessert was nice. Hometown feel with delicious food! I live right by sals so I go once a week. Haven't had a bad meal yet! My favorite is their ahi tuna, they have wraps or entrees. The wrap is absolutely delicious and the honey wasabi dressing is incredible -- I don't even like mustard flavor because it usually is so overpowering. Pretty good sports pub. Came here on a Friday night with some family for dinner. Got a table, but seemed to just sneak in before the dinner rush. Zucchini sticks and calamari were good. For my main, I got the spicy pork hero (served on garlic bread). I swapped out the fries for waffle fries (my fave), which is always a good choice. Pretty big portion sizes, had to take half of it home with me. Could've used more sauce on the sandwich though. read more

Got take out later on a Sunday evening, call was professionally handled and our order spot on as we asked. Pick up experience was smooth and restaurant was well attended as was the bar, with a hockey game on the screen. Had 2 very thick and tasty burgers, nice fries, an excellent Ruben sandwich and a French onion soup. Food was all as good as you can get for take out. Next time we will eat in, but it might be a while as we live 300 miles south of here and get up here a few times a year. read more

They showed us to a table on a Sunday afternoon. There was a party at the next table. No one came over for 15 minutes. So, we left.

I am here about 1x a year. Today was the last time. I got the rueben sliders that were on the lunch special. They were dried out and tasteless. I ate 1 slider. The fries were ok but they gave a very small portion. My husband had a French dip sandwich. That was also small portion and the beef broth was tasteless. All food was cold. We were the only lunch customers but never saw the waitress, Mary. She was disinterested and hanging out at the bar. We had to gett her attention for all service. She did not comment on why all the food was left. My husband said let's just not come back. Get the bill and get out of here. This place was good 10 years ago but with so many nice restaurants, we won't choose this again. read more

Good service. Asked about a table but they had the dining room filled with military vets. The hostess said it's a free dinner for the vets they do every year. I said that was outstanding, we would get a table by the bar. Wings were great. I can't think of many places that have better wings than Sal's. Menu is all the high schools mascots as the theme. Moved out here a few years ago.. live literally within a mile of this joint.. never stopped by. Decided to give it a go tonight (st Paddy's day).. it was pretty busy.. but man. What a great idea. Wish I had come sooner. Joe, the owner, was bartending and was an absolute gentleman. The hostess and waiter, and the wait staff were all attentive and very nice. We got calamari and a couple of burgers. Very reasonable prices and really great food. No complaints at all. It was a very nice night out for the Mrs and I. And now, unfortunately for my wallet, I'll have to find the time to frequent this joint for dinner. Really great spot. Really felt like a part of the family immediately. read more

We have previously been there while on vacation and sat on beach during low tide. I saw a couple negative reviews but went for my birthday dinner anyway. It was just as good as we remembered. Our family of 4 come from a city known for it's Italian food. The eggplant parm I got was delicious as well as my husband's seafood dish. Our kids (20&9) both loved the chicken parm and they are both very picky about sauce, said it was the best restaurant they have ever been to. Everyone enjoyed the salad, meatballs, bread, octopus appetizers & fudge after dinner. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was cozy and relaxing. We liked how there were mirrors on the non water view side so all of us felt like we had a view. read more

We were promptly greeted, brought to a table where we had a short & pleasant conversation with our greeter who provided us with menus and a list of specials. Our server (Patti) approached us momentarily, introduced herself, & took our beverage orders. A bus boy came & asked if we would like a bread basket brought to the table. Ok...great start! Easy to locate, pleasant atmosphere, great service and the best was yet to come. Our food choices were served timely and we all enjoyed the atmosphere. We chose an appetizer of Calamari with Thai sauce, which was delicious, fresh & cooked just right. Two of us had the ribs which were fantastic, the other two had sandwich choices (Freedom Dip - a French Dip with Sweet Potato fries; the other chose a Reuben Sandwich with regular fries). Portions were perfect & properly prepared. The menu has a wide variety of choices for entrees and lighter fair. Pricing was very reasonable. As I said... add to your dining out locations. read more
