I stumbled upon Salt Marsh Antiques as I was in town picking something up from FB Marketplace and saw the sign as I drove by. I decided to stop in on my way home and boy am I glad that I did!! What a gem of a shop. 3 floors representing many different dealers with a wide selection of inventory. Prices vary greatly (as they should) but Bobby (the owner) was willing and wanting to make deals with friendly customers. Bobby and his team were incredibly sweet and very lovely to talk to. Bobby mentioned that they just re-opened for the season this past week. Everyone who worked there was pleasant and helpful. You can tell that Bobby has been in the business for a long time and that he has a great deal of knowledge that he wants to pass along to others. It was obvious to me that Bobby cares about the business and that he wants to do what he can to help get younger generations interested in and excited about antiques. I unfortunately had a time restraint due to my work schedule the day of my visit so I had to set an alarm to remind myself when I had to leave by. Needless to say, I snoozed my alarm 3 times . Ladies leave your handbags in the car or be willing to lock them in one of the available lockers at the front of the store. They (understandably) have a handbag policy to help prevent theft across the store. That said, I heard Bobby thank numerous customers for being understanding of the policy. Just be aware of the policy before you go and don't take it personally as it's a store policy and it applies to everyone. Sadly, I'm sure it was put into place for a reason. Be respectful and understanding and that will go a long way with the employees. There are SO many treasures to discover at this shop so be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to look around. It is definitely worth making a trip to Rowley to visit this shop. Be sure to check hours ahead of times as they are not open 7 days a week. Rowley is over an hour away from me but I will DEFINITELY be back and will be telling others to make the trek as well. read more

The owner seemed very concerned that I think he is a good guy, but wouldn't let me in with my small crossbody bag while letting other people in with their handbags. At first he said it was because it could knock things over even though my bag is crossbody and others had handbags, but then he told me about how people steal all the time and he can't let bags in--meaning he thinks I am a criminal? I can't comfortably browse without my phone, glasses and wallet, and holding them loose wasn't going to help me admire and shop. Meanwhile guys in giant coats were okay to go in. We took a special trip out there so I could browse antiques and were treated so inhospitably, I would not go back nor recommend it to anyone as an antique destination. read more

READ THE OTHER REVIEWS, THE OWNER IS SO RUDE AND IN MY HUMBLE OPINION AFTER MANY YEARS OF ANTIQUING, THE ITEMS APPEAR TO BE OVERPRICED JUNK! never in the hundreds of times we have frequented antique stores, have we been literally accosted at the front door by an older, very rude and demanding man(claiming he is the owner) who not only insisted he take our purses but when we then simply walked out because we did not like his tone, he actually stood at the door hurling "mansplains" and patronizing us as if we were children..he was repeating basically how dumb we were for not understanding him and leaving..it was shocking and we actually felt unsafe being there because of his mocking tone..i am thinking he probably would NOT have pulled that tone had my husband been there..the fact that he insists on taking our small purses is very odd, in and of itself, especially in light of the fact that the whole place is a pile of junk which no one in their right mind would risk their freedom to steal from..this is NOT an antique shop..it is a mishmash of junk shop..how would one even fit the huge piles of rusty doodads in their small crossbody and mini totes?...i am not being nasty by saying this but how he guards his goods with the quality they are, seems so very odd..many places have a no tote policy, we get that, but he is downright rude and confrontational and seems a bit off..in reading other posts here on yelp, we sadly see he does this to some other folks at random, almost like a power thing, which doesnt make us any happier..it is especially odd because right down the road is Todd's Farm which is the complete opposite..friendly, cordial with items that are actual antiques and they make everyone feel so welcomed and celebrated..we walked out and much like many of the other reviews and the two ladies who arrived after us who also walked right back out, we will stay out! and happily! read more

A lot of stuff to look at but most of it is pretty expensive when most of it is junk. having a bag policy is totally understandable, but not enforced equally for all customers. I was asked to put my bag away, which is fine but other patrons came in with a handbag and nothing was said to them about it. Probably won't go back read more

This place is more than just an antique shop. They occassionally have bands and musicians perform! These folks know their stuff but don't overly inflate their prices. We go to many shops and this has to be the most pleasing in Rowley if not Essex county! read more

This place has some really great stuff! Some things price a little high and others more on a reasonable scale. The folks here were very friendly and willing to go to the ends of the earth to help me find what I am looking for (a dining set). Went back yet again today to Salt Marsh and was there for over 3 hours. Bobby's knowledge of his store is invaluable for walking out with what you want. I had a plan and found almost everything I needed and some things I wasn't thinking of - but even better. I'd suggest really using the people that are there to help you; if your really looking for something specific or have an idea of what you want, their help is invaluable. Also the prices are great, I spend allot of time at antique stores through junkie type stores and they are always willing to work with you on price. Just ask. read more

My mother and I stopped in this store briefly a few weeks ago. It looked charming from the outside but as soon as we walked through the front door we were accosted by the owner. We each had a small purse with us and he asked us to leave them in our car. Apparently they've had some trouble with shoplifting and now don't allow any bags whatsoever in the store. We locked our bags in the trunk of the car and went back inside to browse. The owner watched us like a hawk from across the store and kept occasionally yelling to us to let him know if we needed anything or offering discounts. There was a good variety of antiques throughout the shop, but many were filthy and not in the best of condition. Of course this is to be expected to a certain degree with antiques, but it really seemed as though no one took any effort to preserve and maintain these items with any degree of care. And nearly everything was *incredibly* overpriced. Overall my mother and I weren't terribly impressed with the store itself and were made so uncomfortable by the owner we didn't end up staying very long. We definitely won't be back. If you're in the area and want to do some antiquing definitely try the barn antique shop in Newburyport. It's loads better than this place! read more

I was in a bit of a bind to clean out my parents' house in a short time period and Bobby swooped in to the rescue! Bobby is knowledgeable and well connected. Not only did he appraise the items in my parents' home, giving us a fair and honest price for those of value, but he also went above and beyond to refer us to a clean out service which was reasonable, quick, and thorough. Bobby put his own reputation on the line to help in a time of crisis, and did so with humor and compassion. His customer service is impeccable. I owe him a debt of gratitude. Huge collection of fantastic antiques from classic to eclectic. By far, my favorite place to find treasures on the North Shore. Dealers are always very friendly and knowledgeable.
