What the what, Ilwaco? I mean, this town is a little bit the-town-that-time-forgot, and it's easy to drive through Ilwaco but never *to* Ilwaco. But then, one day, you're headed back from Cape Disappointment and the group you are with is beyond hangry and they want food ASAP. Then you stop in this town and see what there is to eat. The answer to that question is Salt. Not the seasoning, the Hotel and Pub. This little spot on the waterfront is hidden and off the main path, though certainly right in the thick of the tiny little street where you go if you're headed for water views. As part of a hotel, it's tucked back in the back of the horseshoe and only seats a handful of tables. But the menu was interesting and creative enough to surprise me, all things considered. What I really wanted was the tuna melt, but in the name of exploration, I got the salmon fish and chips. When in season, the tuna fish and chips is where it's at, as it's straight off the boat fare. But I'm telling you, the tuna melt was the right instinct. I dug the salmon fish and chips, nonetheless, and they were light enough and not your average fish and chips. The fries were okay, but a little too done (yet not crisp) for my full liking. I also thought the clam chowder looked really good, though the clams were in their shell. I kinda like this approach, but if you're expecting spoonfuls of chowder, it's more of a project than that. We came in right when the weather took a turn for the worse, and it must have been a popular choice to head inside because there was a wait for the table. Luckily, there was a group that ghosted so we were seated somewhat quickly, otherwise they cited a 25-35 min wait. The wait did, however, catch up to us with food. It was about that long between ordering and food delivery, though I think it was uncharacteristically busy. I get it. You get slammed out of nowhere. It happens. It was just charming enough, unassuming enough, and surprising enough that I'm quite happy with our dinner. Elevated bar food for sure, comfortable on a rainy evening with hangry people wanting food. This is my Review for BOTH the Salt Hotel and the Pub. If you read reviews in advance like I do, this would be helpful for your stay in Ilwaco, Wa. Let me just start by saying I am a big Seafood Person. I worked in hospitality as a server in a fine seafood restaurant with an exceptional chef, so I am quite picky when it comes to my food and service. The Salt Hotel and Pub were spot on in all aspects! We booked our stay on Monday to stay on Friday. Online booking was easy, and I was pleased to say that kids were welcomed! After booking the hotel online I did make a reservation on Yelp for our room. I called the hotel and asked questions about late check in, if we were to arrive after 7pm and the guest services let me know that it wouldn't be an issue due to the ability to check in and out without contact. We ended up arrived way earlier than expected, and actually need to check in an hour early. At arriving at the front desk she let us know that would be fine. (Early check in ) After a few hours and starting to get hungry, we decided we better change our 730pm dinner reservation to 530. Again at the restaurant, that was no problem! ( for accommodating our schedule! Let me just speak for the front desk lady was also running the restaurant. She was very efficient to help me while also directing a stream of guests who were coming in one after the other. Dinner at the Pub was amazing! Our server Rhoda was fast and well informed about the Restaurants offerings! She had beers on top to tell us about and also their featured entrees, fresh cod & king salmon chips. It was clear that the front of the house and the kitchen were running like a well oiled machine. We had the oyster shooters to start. I can appreciate a server who knows where her seafood is coming from without hesitation or need to ask the kitchen. So the oyster shooters from Willipa Bay were delicious as they were served floating in the cocktail sauce in the shell with fresh lemon. Delicious and gone quickly! We also wanted to try the clam chowder which also has the clams in the shells. I have to say that the amount of clams in the bowl was very generous. If you eat seafood often you can understand that when you order a dish with shellfish that you may get a few empty shells, as the clams can fall out during cooking. That was not the case here. Every single shell had a clam in it! Kudos to the kitchen-- wow. For meals my husband had the burger, and I had the fresh fish, with a salad. We ordered a grilled cheese for our 3 1/2 yr old. I took photos after we had started eating so just a note that the portions were larger than what my photos show. The house made balsamic dressing was delicious and the greenery on my side salad was fabulous! Rhoda was quick to come back and check on us. She cleaned any dirty glasses or napkins and kept our table looking clean throughout dining. Checkout was fast. We were full and loved our meals!! Our hotel room was small and quaint, but we were not complaining due to the price difference compared to hotels we had previously stayed at in Long Beach, WA. The hotel was doing its best to be sustainable, and I can appreciate no plastic bags in the garage cans and locally sourced soap. They also had solar panels on their roof, again, LOVE that!! On Friday we used the text line, from the Salt Team, and had ice brought up to our room. We stayed 2 nights and needed fresh towels and garbages emptied so had used the same line on Saturday morning, but didn't have luck using it the second time. My husband went and found someone and they gave us towels. We were okay with that because we still got what we needed and the hotel is small and it didn't take much effort on our part to get what we needed. All in all 5 stars for our Stay in Ilwaco, WA! This place is a gem, and we will be back. read more

What a cute little spot! We were in town to visit Cape Disappointment and stopped in Ilwaco for the Saturday Farmer's Market - they opened at 11:30 - we reserved a spot on the waitlist through Yelp (super convenient) and were seated on the patio maybe 15-20 minutes after they opened. It was hot hot hot - they brought water with ice out for our doggo which is a nice touch. The host and wait staff were kind. We had the North Jetty (local Long Beach brewery) Beach Beer blonde ale and the Leadbetter Red Scottish Ale. I loved my drink but hated my husbands - and vice versa - to each their own! We both had the rockfish fish-n-chips and found the dish super fresh, light, the right crispiness, with well seasoned fries. Definitely spot by this spot if you're in the area and want a bite for lunch. We didn't have the fruit cobbler with ice cream - but DAMN did it look good. read more

One wouldn't think it would be difficult to get a party of 4 for dinner on the peninsula on a Saturday evening around 4:45 but it was a challenge...we got to this place & had called them to see if they had capacity & they did. The service was awesome...only hiccup was not being informed of the "pork" being out for the cubano sandwich but they added bacon & my husband was not disappointed any longer. The food had excellent flavor & the atmosphere was warm & welcoming. We frequent the farmers market & have wondered by the place countless times over the past several years & not sure why it took us so long to go inside. My family has been coming here since they opened, they have unfortunately changed the one item I would always get, the clam chowder. I will attach a photo of the consistency we're used to and notice the garlic toast... this last visit was so inedible we couldn't even eat the chowder. The chowder this time was so thick, dry and over floured it was horrible, not to mention they steamed the clams seperate (3 clams) and tossed them on top unseasoned and dry.. and buttered Rye bread instead of garlic toast. I cannot recommend this place anymore. They also got rid of the Sea Cucumber and Hummus with the deep fried pita breads, this place has hit rock bottom... we won't be back :( read more

This restaurant has large windows perfect for great views overlooking the marina! Steamed clams: Tasty appetizer with yummy broth--perfect for dipping the buttered baguette toast it's served with. I especially liked the celery and garlic. Coconut-crusted rockfish: I asked for it without the hoagie, and they kindly served it on a mix of salad greens. The fish seemed a little dry and not very flavorful, but I think that's how rockfish is? If you don't like fish-flavor, this would be a good one. Salmon fish & chips special: I've never had salmon fish and chips, and it was delicious! Definitely more flavorful than cod or halibut. The fish was moist and tender and the salmon flavor shined through the light batter. The chips were large caliber and generous portion size. Definitely the best entree we got. read more

We just got recommended to this place after camping in Cape Disappointment. Been camping here so many times but didn't know this place was here. Thus place had amazing service. Very friendly and attentive, and just really on top of things. I split a crab mac n cheese and salmon fish and chips, along with some really yummy Portugal rose. All loved their lunches and we all finished it with sharing some cobbler! Stuffed and happy we all were!! We'll definitely be back as we camp out here a lot. read more

So will leave at 4 star - probably need another body to during busy hours. =================== Ilwaco seems to have a real winner here - up on the 2nd floor of the SALT hotel find the Pub & Grub, a nicely decorated restaurant with bar, a dozen + tables, and modern furniture. 3 huge bay windows open up the Port of Ilwaco, Columbia River and Sand Island. We actually wound up coming here after seeing the Lost Roo in Long Beach totally jammed at 5pm, and we had bookmarked this place and said, lets go to Salt Pub! GLAD WE DID! It took about 5 minutes for us to get our menus and drink orders (the bartender took care of us); my wife got the almond/coconut crusted mango salsa rockfish and I went for the daily special Beef Brisket Poutain ($15). I noticed a little ringy-dingy going off, I guess thats a cue for waitresses to go downstairs to pick up orders (I guess the kitchen is down there?). Our food arrived, after a wait (10 mins?) - omg the poutain was a BIG serving, slad I didnt add on. The brisket was MAGNIFICENT, adorned with deepfried mozzarella cheese poppers (so good!) and mushrooms and gravy, topping the fabulous hand cut french fries. My wife LOVED her sandwich. The bartender kept our drinks topped off, and promptly got our check when we were done. Food - really good, prices - fabulously reasonable. Service was decent. I'm gonna go 4 stars here, if a subsequent visit is the same we could go 5 star. We have pushed this place to the top of our list now on the Long Beach Peninsula, we'll definitely be back read more

A delectable, fresh Marion berry-strawberry-mango crumble with vanilla bean ice cream & rich, fresh coffee were the perfect finish to our favorite fish and chips dinner at Salt Pub and Inn in Ilwaco, WA. Weather permitting, we routinely try to sit on the patio overlooking the busy marina & fish processing buildings with Saddle Mountain and the Oregon Coastal Range in the background. Tonight was especially lovely, being a cool autumn evening warmed with a much appreciated propane heater! We plan our regular trips from Fox Island to the beach to include a trip to Salt whenever possible! Much thanks to Rhoda, our server tonight, for a another delightful experience. I only experienced the downstairs bar/cafe. Cute and clean, right in the water. Upstairs wasn't being used as it wasn't a very busy afternoon but it had a great view of the water. The downstairs view was mainly of the marina. The staff was super friendly. I had a great hot toddy and a cup of soup. We were anxious to check this place out, as it was closed during our last visit to the area. The setting is gorgeous, with spacious views of the marina and harbor. The restaurant itself has a cool vibe, with chairs made from welded steel tubing and thick wood slab tables. The menu had lots of interesting choices; a mix of local seafood as well as pub fare. I had a cup of the soup of the day, which was a salmon chowder along with a plate of Dungeness crab hush puppies. The chowder was thick and filled with chunks of salmon and topped with a pesto, but it was lacking a zing in overall flavor. Still quite tasty though. The hush puppies seemed short on crab, being mostly dough. I would choose something else next time. My wife had the albacore tuna fish & chips. This was a large serving of two chunks of fish along with hand cut fries. If you're used to cod or halibut for fish and chips, tuna is quite different, being much more dense. It was quite good though and the batter was super crispy. We would definitely like to return to try more from the menu. read more

Fish and chips made with sockeye salmon and we were a little suspicious at first but every table around us was getting some and our server was like, yeah we hear that but no you will love it. I love love love love the clam chowder here! It's made with clams still in the shell and the flavor is exquisite! I've had chowder along the west coast and various places on the east coast and no one comes as close when it comes to flavor. You must get the chowder here. We had other foods too, the poutine, a couple of burgers, Dungeness Mac n cheese, and tuna fish and chips. All other dishes were okay, nothing that really set them over the top. Someone in our party ordered a rare burger that came out well done. The tuna was over cooked and there was barely any Dungeness crab in the mac n cheese (although the Mac n cheese did taste good). The server/hostess was exceptional. She was very friendly and checked on us multiple times. You don't get that kind of service at a lot of places any more. If we're in the area again we will be swinging by for some chowder and great service! read more

Fun pub atmosphere, we really enjoyed our food. There were a couple things on the menu that weren't available, but our waitress was very kind and accommodating with explaining the substitutions. She was incredibly helpful and attentive to our table of 6. I got the fish and chips with Rock Fish and it was some of the best I've ever had, we were impressed by the flavor and quality of our whole meal.
