I tend to be a creature of habit at my favorite local spots. Salt Trader is no exception. Except this week LOL! I tried the Grilled (Grouper-I think) Collar entree special... 6/5 stars. Insane amount of meat, seasoned perfectly with a setup to make your own fish tacos. Great as a shareable. The crew had exceptional meals as well. Great for date nights, family night, or girls night! If you haven't, put it on your list! PPS still waiting for the cauliflower purée to make its come back!

Caveat, I ate at this Salt Traders when it opened. Stupid close to my former tattoo shop (ex wife 2007-2018). Trying to not impede on territory I stayed away. I mean, do you have an Mandala on your head? As much as I LOVE Jack Allen's Kitchen and Z' Tejas the visit was a miss for me. Fish dip versus Pimento Spread was just OK. I mean, I'm not exactly used to said dish like someone who lives in Minnesota. Didn't really like the Linguine and Clam dish either. So, even with the south expansion of the restaurant I haven't returned. Wife and I were returning from Fort worth and I was craving oysters. Rolled into Round Rock and gave ST another shot. First issue, the hostess insisted we sit at the bar. In fact, patrons that were seated after us were served before we were. Not exactly a good start. Bartender finally made it around; food ordered and drinks refilled quickly. The bar bite Fried Oysters were nicely cooked. She opted for the Clam Chowda (this is a staple dish for her); I I moved onto the Grilled Oysters. I also contemplated the dumplings but ended up being full. Oysters were delicious and I'll make it a point to visit the Zilker location which is closer to the ranch. Better hostess; better rating!

Very disappointing wait with bar only seating despite a very empty restaurant. Waited 20 minutes for the bar seating. A regular table was going to be an hour wait. Food was pricey and marginal just disappointing. Very few dishes available that didn't have shellfish as either the main protein or prepared with shellfish. Only choice was Fish tacos. They were 2 tasteless tacos and contained 1 tiny piece of breaded fish?in each. Side of rice was the only flavorful food served. Other diner had some oysters which were just ok and a shrimp special. Took awhile to receive the oysters, main entrees, refill on tea and over 15 minute wait for a $11 cheesecake the size of a small cupcake and the check. Not sure if it was the waiter or poor kitchen service but appeared to be sufficient staff. Go next door to Jack Allen's for much better food and service.

Salt traders is a local institution! The Salmon dip and blackened catfish sandwich with in-house fried chips! Yumm yumm yumm ! Perfectly seasoned... Perfectly cooked and those pickles are delish! The customer service is always top tier ...and the ambiance is relaxing

Salt Traders located in Round Rock was our last stop for the today. To be frank, I was exhausted from all the walking around the square in the sun and through the stores. Salt Traders has an elevated ambiance with warm lighting, and nautical atmosphere. Salt Traders are known for their happy hour and especially $1 off oysters. We were there for happy hour but not oysters. So we grabbed seats at the bar. During happy hour appetizers are $5 off and $1 off cocktails. It is something about eating things that are slimy that are super unappealing to me. The menu has a good selection of seafood inspired foods. Some examples include the lobster and shrimp pappardelle, grilled salmon, and the seafood gumbo. My friend ordered a grapefruit margarita, which seem like an oxymoron to me, but she absolutely loved. I ordered a glass of prosecco and guacamole minus the yuzu. My friend described it as having a vinegary taste, so I asked our bartender to kill the yuzu. My prosecco was refreshing and guacamole very good. The chips were not the most appealing ones we have eaten, but sometimes you cannot have a perfect meal. Our bartender was the happiest guy on earth and made our time at Salt Traders extremely pleasant. My friend is a regular at Salt Traders and I will definitely visit when I am in the vicinity,

The Wednesday Lunch Bunch had lunch at salt traders today. Salt traders is just off interstate 35 very close to. Jack Allen, cover three, Hopdoddys. A very nice upscale decor. We seated immediately and greeted by our waitress. She took our drink orders while we looked over the menu. Lots of seafood options. I opted for the grilled tuna and street noodles. I added a Caesar salad. When our orders arrived they were placed on the table with no regard for who ordered what. Lack of server training was obvious. The grilled tuna was a bit chewy but the street noodles were great. I added a Caesar salad which tasted like a plain lettuce salad rather than a Caesar salad. Aside from the service issue, the food was fine. This is the fourth time I've dined at Salt Traders and this visit was not up to their standard.

First time, been passing this place for awhile. Needed a hearty meal to carry over into dinner. Jeremy took care of me at the bar with Salmon dip and chips, a nice flavorful scallop and for the main the Lobster Pappardelle. Main dish didn't make it for photos, I was hungry. I would add a little more kick but otherwise just right on flavor and vegetables. Ambiance is nice for a date, lunch or large group.

Absolutely favorite in professional service, cleanliness & flavorful seafood options, particularly the raw oysters which are always freshly presented beautifully. So nice that the GM Erica sat near me & conversed with me on her break. Today I opted for the pricier entree, Hokkaido Scallop Risotto (scallops over a bed of perfect risotto, arugula & sauce). I opted to elevate bites with their delightful home made hot sauce, you should too! Totally worth it! This would be a super place to come more often but I live an hour north. No doubt my first choice for special occasions although today was just a leisurely late lunch. Included in this review is the delectable Cioppino I had previously & I always start my meal off with a cup of warm hearty clam chowder. It's a treat to get everything kicked off with the sample of kettle chips to dig into the tuna topped with capers, so nice! Thanks Erica & team, you're doing it right & I'll be back! It's definitely a treat to dine here & bring everybody or just solo, either way is a really nice experience. Using the reservation system on the website is a breeze & give them a call to gauge the busy-ness, you might can get in sooner than expected.

This place offers creative and delicious dishes. It is decorated with blue and wood colors, resembling a coastal vibe. Brandon was out waiter and his recommendations were right on point. I ordered the Hokkaido Scallop Risotto and it was so tasty, I keep talking about it and recommending it to others. I will keep doing so until the day they open one of these restaurants in The Woodlands, then I will keep the secret to myself! JK Delicious food and very knowledgeable staff!

In my attempt to spread the love and start my Valentine's week early, we visited Salt Traders for lunch. My wife really loves their Crab Louie salad. Chunks of lump crab, over a bed of lettuce and a tasty sauce. I didn't think I would like it. Boy, was I wrong. It was amazing. Service here is top notch and the atmosphere was very supportive of my romantic efforts. We really had a nice experience. Michael C. - Georgetown, Tx.

The Bichota cocktail was a standout--sweet, refreshing, and with just enough of a kick to keep you sipping slowly. The Old Fashioned was equally impressive: sweet yet balanced, served in a stylish glass with a unique holder that made the experience feel elevated. For food, the chicharrón with fried yuca and tostones was perfection. The pork was fried to a crisp golden shell without being greasy, and seasoned just right--not too salty, but enough to make every bite crave-worthy. The yuca and tostones were cut to the perfect thickness for even cooking, with a satisfying crunch outside and tender inside, especially when dipped into their garlicky sauce. The cheese sticks are an absolute must-have--crispy outside, oozy inside, and dangerously addictive. And the arepas? Exceptionally good--stuffed with beans, cheese, beef, and sweet plantains for that perfect salty-sweet balance. Every plate showed attention to texture, seasoning, and presentation. Price Considering the quality of ingredients, creative plating, and generous portions, the prices felt fair for a fusion dining experience. The cocktails were crafted with care and worth every penny. Appetizers could easily be shared, making it easy to get variety without breaking the bank. Environment We sat outside and it was amazing for groups, dates, and inside it is super cool. The décor is not fancy but really fun Austin style. There is a section bar where they play music which I want to try. Service The service was cool and amicable. It looks the server was new but he did give recommendations. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great pairing suggestions. Dishes came out at a good pace, and drinks were refreshed quickly. You could tell the staff was proud of the food they were serving, which made the whole experience even better. Overall: If you're looking for a place where Latin flavors meet creative execution, this spot is worth the visit. Come hungry, order a mix of small plates, and don't skip the cocktails--or the garlic sauce.

Unfortunately, the brunch menu left much to be desired. The Sunday menu had very limited vegan or vegetarian options (not even a salad?), and substitutions were not allowed. I was told I "couldn't substitute bacon," not even for avocado. I ordered what I thought would be chilaquiles, but it turned out to be a trendy, Americanized version of the dish. Being Hispanic, I know better than to order dishes like this at restaurants because I expect traditional cooking. So know that the eggs in the chilaquiles are served over easy and very runny, they are not scrambled. Also, instead of tortillas, the dish used Dorito-esque chips. Since I can't eat undercooked eggs, I was essentially left with a bowl of chips for $13 (pictured). Overall, the menu felt like it was trying a little too hard to be trendy or "cool" rather than letting the locally sourced ingredients (which is really cool feature they offer!) speak for themselves. I liked that they care about sourcing ingredients, but the execution felt more focused on creating "quirky", elevated twists versus making dishes that are cohesive or satisfying.

Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. I asked for hot, but what I got tasted more like a medium that didn't want to commit. And the shrimp? Head‑on and not deveined. That gave them a gamy, muddy undertone that took away from the whole boil. At this price point, deveining shouldn't be a luxury add‑on. We also tried the appetizer sampler -- calamari, egg rolls, cheese sticks -- and everything tasted suspiciously similar, like it all took the same little swim in the same fryer without a break. Nothing was terrible, but nothing had personality. These were the kind of appetizers you can find anywhere, and not the kind you remember later. My partner ordered the shrimp po'boy, and while the portion was generous, the breading overwhelmed the shrimp. He ended up peeling most of it off just to get to the actual protein. When the breading becomes the main character, that's a sign the dish needs editing. Now, the mixed drinks? Those were actually good -- balanced, not overly sweet, and honestly the highlight of the meal. And I have to give credit where it's due: our waitress was attentive, friendly, and checked on us consistently without hovering. She did everything right. The food just didn't match her level of service. And look... I'm not trying to be dramatic, but I've had better crab at HEB during crawfish season for a fraction of the price. When your grocery‑store boil is hitting harder than the restaurant version, that's saying something. Overall, Surfing Crab wasn't a disaster, but it wasn't memorable either. For the price and the concept, I expected more depth, more spice, and more care in the prep. This one's a pass for me -- especially when I know I can get fresher, better‑seasoned seafood elsewhere without the premium price tag.
