Had a great Saturday lunch at Salt Traders. The food was really good across the board, and the value for the portion sizes stood out. The tuna tacos (a special) were easily the best thing we had--so good they should be a permanent menu item. The ceviche was fresh and flavorful, and the $1 oysters during Saturday happy hour were an awesome deal. The Gulf shrimp cocktail was solid and exactly what you'd expect, while the burger was filling and a great value. Service was fast and friendly, and the whole experience felt smooth and easy. I tend to be a creature of habit at my favorite local spots. Salt Trader is no exception. Except this week LOL! I tried the Grilled (Grouper-I think) Collar entree special... 6/5 stars. Insane amount of meat, seasoned perfectly with a setup to make your own fish tacos. Great as a shareable. The crew had exceptional meals as well. Great for date nights, family night, or girls night! This is a nice upscale casual dining restaurant that is suitable for business meeting lunches, adult dining, and similar events. Food is tasty and is mostly seafood. Caveat, I ate at this Salt Traders when it opened. Stupid close to my former tattoo shop (ex wife 2007-2018). Trying to not impede on territory I stayed away. I mean, do you have an Mandala on your head? As much as I LOVE Jack Allen's Kitchen and Z' Tejas the visit was a miss for me. Fish dip versus Pimento Spread was just OK. I mean, I'm not exactly used to said dish like someone who lives in Minnesota. Didn't really like the Linguine and Clam dish either. So, even with the south expansion of the restaurant I haven't returned. Wife and I were returning from Fort worth and I was craving oysters. Rolled into Round Rock and gave ST another shot. First issue, the hostess insisted we sit at the bar. In fact, patrons that were seated after us were served before we were. Not exactly a good start. Bartender finally made it around; food ordered and drinks refilled quickly. The bar bite Fried Oysters were nicely cooked. She opted for the Clam Chowda (this is a staple dish for her); I I moved onto the Grilled Oysters. I also contemplated the dumplings but ended up being full. Very disappointing wait with bar only seating despite a very empty restaurant. Waited 20 minutes for the bar seating. A regular table was going to be an hour wait. Food was pricey and marginal just disappointing. Very few dishes available that didn't have shellfish as either the main protein or prepared with shellfish. Only choice was Fish tacos. They were 2 tasteless tacos and contained 1 tiny piece of breaded fish?in each. Side of rice was the only flavorful food served. Other diner had some oysters which were just ok and a shrimp special. Took awhile to receive the oysters, main entrees, refill on tea and over 15 minute wait for a $11 cheesecake the size of a small cupcake and the check. Not sure if it was the waiter or poor kitchen service but appeared to be sufficient staff. Go next door to Jack Allen's for much better food and service. read more

Salt Traders located in Round Rock was our last stop for the today. To be frank, I was exhausted from all the walking around the square in the sun and through the stores. Salt Traders has an elevated ambiance with warm lighting, and nautical atmosphere. Salt Traders are known for their happy hour and especially $1 off oysters. We were there for happy hour but not oysters. So we grabbed seats at the bar. During happy hour appetizers are $5 off and $1 off cocktails. It is something about eating things that are slimy that are super unappealing to me. The menu has a good selection of seafood inspired foods. Some examples include the lobster and shrimp pappardelle, grilled salmon, and the seafood gumbo. My friend ordered a grapefruit margarita, which seem like an oxymoron to me, but she absolutely loved. I ordered a glass of prosecco and guacamole minus the yuzu. My friend described it as having a vinegary taste, so I asked our bartender to kill the yuzu. My prosecco was refreshing and guacamole very good. The chips were not the most appealing ones we have eaten, but sometimes you cannot have a perfect meal. Our bartender was the happiest guy on earth and made our time at Salt Traders extremely pleasant. I picked up dinner from Salt Traders Coastal Cooking in Round Rock and ordered the fish and chips (cod with Lone Star batter, fries, tartar, and malt vinegar). Let's just get to it. The photos make it look golden, crispy, and light... but what I received was the complete opposite. The food tasted like it had been cooked in old or overused grease. The oil completely took over everything. The fish itself had a nice flavor underneath it all, but the Lone Star batter? Lost in grease. No crisp, no crunch--just heavy and oily. The fries? Limp, greasy, and far from crispy. You know that texture--when they bend instead of snap. Yeah... that. This was a $23 pickup order, and by the time I got home, it was clear this wasn't fish and chips--it was greasy fish and greasy fries. Even after throwing it in the air fryer, it still wouldn't crisp up. That tells you everything you need to know. On a positive note, the interior looked really nice from what I saw during pickup. But unfortunately, the food didn't match the vibe. Don't take my word for it--try it for yourself. But whether I'm dining in or picking up, I expect crispy fish and crispy fries. I paired it with the sour dough bread and butter. I was a little disappointed it wasn't warm or toasted. It was good and I did enjoy it. Next I ordered the scallops with risotto. I first noticed a bit of a seafood smell and that surprised me. I tasted the risotto and it was really good. I then tasted the scallops and found them to be salty unusually salty. I was unable to completely eat one of the scallops so I sent it back. Next, I ordered the shrimp and lobster roll very pretty presentation. I hated it. Honestly I should have stuck with the scallops. Jeremy took care of me at the bar with Salmon dip and chips, a nice flavorful scallop and for the main the Lobster Pappardelle. Main dish didn't make it for photos, I was hungry. So nice that the GM Erica sat near me & conversed with me on her break. Today I opted for the pricier entree, Hokkaido Scallop Risotto (scallops over a bed of perfect risotto, arugula & sauce). I opted to elevate bites with their delightful home made hot sauce, you should too! Totally worth it! This would be a super place to come more often but I live an hour north. No doubt my first choice for special occasions although today was just a leisurely late lunch. Included in this review is the delectable Cioppino I had previously & I always start my meal off with a cup of warm hearty clam chowder. The Wednesday Lunch Bunch had lunch at salt traders today. Salt traders is just off interstate 35 very close to. Jack Allen, cover three, Hopdoddys. A very nice upscale decor. We seated immediately and greeted by our waitress. She took our drink orders while we looked over the menu. Lots of seafood options. I opted for the grilled tuna and street noodles. I added a Caesar salad. When our orders arrived they were placed on the table with no regard for who ordered what. Lack of server training was obvious. The grilled tuna was a bit chewy but the street noodles were great. I added a Caesar salad which tasted like a plain lettuce salad rather than a Caesar salad. Aside from the service issue, the food was fine. This is the fourth time I've dined at Salt Traders and this visit was not up to their standard. read more

This spot came highly recommended so I was excited to try it. I honestly found the food to be pretty underwhelming and mediocre. I had the trout -- a bit dry. It came with farro and vegetables -- all bland. The sauce on the fish was okay but didn't save the dish. Found the gumbo to be too saucy and too heavy on the mussels. The Brussels sprouts were my favorite item. The butternut squash risotto side was pretty good too. The restaurant itself is nice and child-friendly. We had a baby (in a high chair) and a toddler (in a booster). Pleasant dining experience but food isn't worth it, in my opinion. read more

This place offers creative and delicious dishes. It is decorated with blue and wood colors, resembling a coastal vibe. Brandon was out waiter and his recommendations were right on point. I ordered the Hokkaido Scallop Risotto and it was so tasty, I keep talking about it and recommending it to others. If you're reading this and it's spring time go to salt traders for their gulf oysters! Tis the season so they are extra fresh and sweet. Went for happy hour which is a fantastic deal. The mussels appetizer was very fresh and the soup it came in was SO umami delicious...that I drank the whole broth lol. The star of the show was the blackened fish sandwich. The slaw was dressed perfectly in a tangy lemon honey mustard vinegrette and the tartar sauce was the perfect complement to the beautifully cooked fish. I was reflecting on how perfect the flavors were on the sandwich when I got home and all day today...it was that good. It's got good styles different styles. It's kind of a twist of Asian to sushi, different styles of seafood employees but it's very good very tasteful. Your portions are pretty decent and so you will get a nice meal and it's a little pricey, but it's worth it if you wanna take somebody someplace Nice. read more

We had gumbo, raw gulf oysters, and the lobster roll. Not impressed with any of it. Gumbo is a flavorful Cajun dish. Although the roux was dark and thick, the gumbo was filled with big shrimp, chewy oysters, and andouille, it tasted more like Zatarains seasoning,: too much heat and too much salt. If you like your oysters with a cocktail sauce and nice horseradish, order the hot horseradish because the fresh grated stuff has no heat. And the sandwich was meh. No flavor until you add the horseradish cream sauce. read more

Y'all! I really do love me some salt traders! Not only is the location convenient to georgetown, you can typically get seated pretty quickly with or without a resy. But it is definitely better to be safe with a resy! There is always a special menu, chalkboard specials, oyster deals, weekend happy hours, lunch specials and I believe most days you can get the snapper collar. Trust me, get the snapper collar!!!! Looks really good from the outside not so good from the inside. I'm not big on seafood so I tried the chicken sandwich, it was like a salad in a bun. Wasn't a fan. My friend tried the shrimp bowl, he normally likes fried shrimp but said it tasted fishy. The bread was mid and it costs. Definitely a 3/5 wouldn't come back kind of restaurant. It must be fate because after almost a decade we keep coming back and can't ever get enough of Salt Trader's consistently edgy fresh food immaculately prepared with superb service and always a good vibe. (apologies to Cher and Peter Cetera) Tonight was a great night with with the best food and service by Tiffany that included Smoked Fish Dip, $1 Wild Gulf Oysters, Ceviche Tostadas, Clam Chowda, Creamy Crab Soup, and Poblano Shrimp Enchiladas along with masterfully crafted drinks! The Kitchen Line and Oyster Shuckers, led by their Executive Chef, was incredible and amazing to watch as they worked together seamlessly like a well-greased machine putting out table after table of piled high seafood and accompaniments plus all the other rockstar menu offerings. Had the best experience here visiting with my mom. We went on a Saturday evening and were able to snag a seat at their open table seating in the bar area. Great if you're into meeting new people or dining alone and open to making new friends. We ordered the strawberry basil lemonade and the kickin pineapple nojito. It was cute and tasty without the headache! I absolutely love the smoked fish dip, so we ordered an appetizer of that. I love that they give you a sample when you sit down or goldfish for the kiddos. For dinner, we had the wood fired grill salmon and the birria fish tacos. Both were amazing. The birria tacos, I was only able to finish about half so I was able to take the rest to go. A group of 8 of us met for dinner here on a Friday night. While the online reservation system only allows you to book for up to 6, I added a note which mentioned I needed a table for 8. When I called a few hours before our reservation, they confirmed they'd seen my note. We did have to wait about 15 minutes after our reservation time to be seated, but I wasn't that surprised since they were pretty busy. As a fan of Jack, Allen's, I wasn't surprised that I ended up being a fan of Salt Trader's as well. The host and server staff were very friendly. Our server checked in with the table, keeping the water glasses filled. I was only able to get a couple of pics, but all the food came out looking good and piping hot. That said, there was a snafu in the kitchen which led to a few plates coming out later than the others. For that error we got a free dessert. Everyone said their food was well cooked and tasty. The shrimp and grits were very flavorful. The shrimp was well seasoned and not over cooked. The grits were rich & savory which the nice bursts of sweet corn and acid from the tomatoes cut through. My cousin's salmon was flaky and moist. She said you could taste a bit of the smoke from the grill which went nicely with the asparagus. All the portions were large enough to satisfy even the hearty eaters at our table. We ordered the key lime tart and brownie desserts. One was complimentary due to the kitchen issue. We passed them around so everyone got some. We liked the both but the brownie was the favorite. read more

We came here for a late bday celebration for myself! They said the wait was 1hr and 45 minutes but in reality it was 10 minutes lol. Our server greeted us right away and gave us some time to look at the menu. I ordered a ranch water and the mussels, my bestie order the crab fried rice. On an unassuming Monday night...I had one of the most memorable restaurant experiences. My man and I went to celebrate me getting a new job. Our server, Gabriel, made an otherwise stressful Monday night feel light and fun. He seemed genuinely excited for me & made my experience special. I did not expect to be laughing so hard in between bites all thanks to Gabriel! What a gem you are! On top of the service the food was amazing. The seared scallops with risotto were to incredible & we always love the Clearwater oysters. Shrimp & grits was good but very rich.
