    Buttery warm lobster roll
    Dewi A.

Pros: The warm lobster roll was tasty, buttery, and generously filled. My only gripe is that it comes with a bag of chips rather than French fries, which are standard at many lobster roll spots. Given the price point, fries would have felt more appropriate. The whole fried black bass with ponzu and cilantro, served with steamed rice, was excellent. You'll need to be comfortable navigating bones, but as Asians who grew up eating whole fish, that wasn't an issue for us. The fish was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and one of the standout dishes of the meal. The fried Ipswich clams appetizer was also delicious. The batter was light, crisp, and seasoned perfectly without overwhelming the clams themselves. As for the ambiance, it felt like a blend of boho Miami chic and Tulum--bright, airy, and filled with soft pastel tones. A beautiful space for lunch. Cons: Unfortunately, both the Spring Crab Carbonara and Lobster Fra Diavolo missed the mark. While each dish was generous with crab and lobster meat, the pasta itself was a disappointment. Bucatini should have a firm, al dente bite. Instead, both plates arrived noticeably overcooked and soggy. No one orders bucatini expecting mush swimming in garlic tomato sauce. Beyond the texture issue, both pasta dishes lacked something. Call it zest, depth, or that certain je ne sais quoi, but neither dish delivered much flavor. Dare I say they were somewhat bland. At $38 and $45 respectively, that was particularly disappointing. Service was equally underwhelming. Despite having a 12:45 p.m. reservation, the hostess seated us at a four-top closest to the kitchen. There were numerous vacant four-top tables in more desirable locations throughout the dining room, yet we were placed there. We didn't complain, but all of us wondered, "Why this table?" Our server, Christy L., was adequate but hardly memorable. As visitors from Los Angeles, we've grown accustomed to servers making a little conversation--asking what brings you to town, offering recommendations, or simply establishing some rapport. Christy's interaction amounted to, "Hi, I'm your server. What can I get you?" and little else. She rarely checked back and never made much effort to engage. Because of that, we didn't feel the suggested gratuity options of 20%, 25%, or 30% on the payment screen were warranted. We left a standard 18% tip. Bottom Line: If you're craving excellent fried clams or a good lobster roll, this place is worth a visit. Beyond those items, however, there are plenty of restaurants that offer stronger culinary execution, more attentive and personable service, and equally attractive surroundings.

This place is adorable and fantastic. Armando is a great bartender, the bar stools are fantastic and the service great. Get the Saltie Martini and cold lobster roll. So good.

What an EXCELLENT spot to eat at in our first day in Boston! My fiancée and came open minded since this isn't the type of seafood we eat and WOW we were pleasantly surprised. First off, we usually get the ick from oysters, but these were incredibly fresh and so tasty that we changed our mind about them! After that we had their clam chowder and its flavors were so rich! The small potatoes in them were a sweet touch as well. We also got some caviar with burrata cheese that was delectable and a great taste before the main part of our meal which was the warm lobster roll. The roll was so toasty and buttery that we stared at each other after the first bite. Absolute 10/10 that we can't wait to come back and eat here again the next time we visit Boston!

I will be thinking about this meal for months. Every single thing we ordered tasted better than the next. We got the Jonas claws, the potato latke with caviar, clam chowder, yellowtail crudo and the pistachio tiramisu. Hands down one of the best meals of my life. The seafood was fresh, everything was cooked and seasoned to pure perfection. Service was great as well. They even made my Hugo spritz exactly how it should be. I really loved sitting at the oyster bar and watching the action of them making these elaborate seafood towers. It's a top tier experience. If you only have time to go to one restaurant when visiting Boston, do not hesitate to make it this one.

Had an early dinner here and really enjoyed it! I was on the hunt for a gluten free lobster roll and this one was good!

Our first stop in Boston and our winner for best clam chowder in the city (yes we did a chowder tasting for popular 5 spots). Although not traditional it had great flavor along with the perfect creaminess! The fried clam was also a nice touch. As for the lobster roll the bread was by far my favorite of all the rolls we tried on our trip but the butter was not as melted for a "warm" roll putting it at second runner up overall. Do NOT skip out on this spot!! We look forward to coming back an exploring the large tin fish menu! Great service and adorable ambiance inside.

A nice bar/restaurant in middle of newbury street for a fancy/romantic or a group gather dinner. If you like sea food. You should check this place. The sea food bar has nice selection and fresh. I went in for a quick drink into the restaurant, the place was lit and the staff were friendly. I haven't had a chance to explore the sea food bar, but I definitely going back - making a reservation for dinner.

Delicious clam chowder and the perfect serving size. Fresh oysters were a nice starter. Easily could have had many more. One of the best lobster rolls I've ever had. My only regret was not trying any of the huge selection of tinned fish. Definitely will be back. Attentive and friendly server. Great vibe at the bar

I stopped here for a late lunch and sat at the bar. I wanted a Hugo Spritz and a lobster roll and it definitely hit the spot. It's a cute atmosphere and I liked watching the World Cup while I ate, I would say it's a good place to stop for a solo meal if you're around and the bar has space. The patio looked cute but it was raining, next time I would come back and maybe try the patio. The service at the bar was a tad slow but not terrible, it was pretty busy so I'll cut them some slack.

Tried to come here the night before and the wait was over an hour. So made reservations for the next day. I'd say it was worth it. Clam chowder was very good and for our first lobsta roll while in Boston it wasn't bad. Staff was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a classy vibe and packed again tonight mid week. I would also say that it seems there are a lot of locals coming here. The table around us all seemed to be people who have been here before and from the area.

In a town acclaimed for its seafood, I'm afraid Saltie Girl doesn't hold up to the competitors. Its strength lies in its prime location and cute interior. The service is fine -- I wouldn't expect anything less for the price point. Our waitress was nice and very accommodating to our large group. However the food was a bit of a letdown. The oysters were the star of the show (if a bit pricey). But the moules-frites were a bit of a letdown as they were too salty and had soggy fries; the tartare was covered in a decadent pile of Parmesan, but was also too salty. Overall, I think they're a good bar with some nice food options. This is the type of place where you could have a nice work event or work dinner, but I wouldn't choose to come here often.

My favorite place to visit in Boston. Always a delightful dining experience. Consistently great each time. The lobster roll is filled with large pieces of meat and pairs perfectly with the malt vinegar chips. My husband got the fish sandwich and was amazed with how fresh it was. Best fish sandwich he has ever had. Great service and vibe as always. Loved sitting near the window and gazing out on Newbury street as we ate

I came here for dinner one day and thought it was great. As it was my first trip in Boston, I really wanted to try a Boston lobster roll and saw that Saltie Girl was often rated as having the best one. When we came at ~6:30pm on a Wednesday, there was a 30 minute wait, so I highly recommend booking a reservation if you can. The environment here is very lively, bright, and beautiful. Service is great. While waiting for a seat, we got some espresso martinis at the bar and thought that they were great. Once our table was ready, we got their tuna carpaccio, calamari, lobster roll, and fish sandwich. While we loved our appetizers, we felt that the entrees were a bit lacking in flavor. Nonetheless, it was still good to try and I thought the ambiance was great.

Ask the Community - Saltie Girl

Is it too loud to converse comfortably?

When we visited our table of 4 was able to converse easily. We happened to be seated against a wall so there were not a lot of people all around us.

    Is there a wine list?

    Yes there is.

    Do they have outside dining?

They do in the summer, not rest of the year.

    Do you take walk ins?

Yes they do! Most of the times it'll be for bar seating in the basement, but on a weekday you should be able to get a table. But would highly recommend making a reservation for weekend visits

Can I make a reservation for lunch Thursday at 1145 am for 4 ppl?

Yes, book your reservation through Resy or Google.

Do they still have the whole fried bass on the menu?

I don't know if they do. What i do know is they do provide an incredible dining experience. Everything we ordered was exceptional. I'd give the restaurant a call and ask them if they have it on the menu.

I see there are separate lunch/dinner reservations, with lunch ending with a 3:00 and dinner beginning with 5:00... do they close in between?

I don't think so. I recently showed up at 4:30 for my 5 pm dinner reservation since I was hungry and wanted to see if they'd let us in. They did and we got the dinner menu!

I see that they do allow kids on a previous question, but is it truly kid friendly? I have a 2 year old and 5 year old. It is preferable to only bring these two to places…

I don't think they have kids menu here but it's more like for couples and group of friends . Good food but it's catered toward adults

    Do they have outdoor dining?

Yes they have a patio area

Do we need to make reservations for dinner around 7 for 6 tonight?

I would highly recommend reservations here. They use Resy, from their website, for reservations. It's similar to Opentable.

Do they have gluten free options?

I think you would be fine. There is plenty of raw bar as well, which is always GF!

Do they offer happy hour specials?

    No they don't

Are kids allowed? I have an 8 year old.

    Yes

Is the restaurant still set up like the Met or have they renovated the ambiance and the space to be all Saltie Girl?

    Same as the met

    Anyone tried the seafood pizza?

My family and I went last night and we were mind blown. We tried the Tomato, Lobster, Jonah Crab, Clam, and the Ham & Egg. They were all SO good in their own way, the flavors all blended very nicely, and we don't typically get a lot of toppings on… Read more

What is the average price of a lobster roll here?

What is the price range for dinner for three people? For context, my party is hoping for a moderate meal, nothing too fancy.

It will be at least $100 before drinks if that helps. It’s not cheap but the quality of the seafood is exceptional.

What is their price range for lunch for two people?

While probably not the greatest answer... it depends on what you order and if you plan on drinking (brunch-style) or not while there. They have reasonable dishes that for lunch start at $10-12 ranging all the way up to lobster on waffles and lobster… Read more

    Do they take reservations?

They don't and because they're so small, there will likely be a long list of people in front of you. Don't let that intimidate you. They told us 45 minutes and we were seated in about 25. Plus, there's a cute bar next door where you can seat… Read more

In advance, I stopped into the hotel to confirm that a gluten-free guest could be accommodated and was assured this would be handled. In reality, the accommodation was inadequate and, at times, unacceptable. While the rest of us were served scones, my stepdaughter was given cut fruit in their place, and told that was all they had to accommodate. The dessert course consisted of what appeared to be basic gluten-free cookies, misrepresented as something more gourmet - egg nog cookies??? This lack of preparation was both disappointing, upsetting and avoidable. The broader experience was equally concerning. We were subjected to an unsolicited and uncomfortable "lesson" on tea service, which detracted from what should have been a relaxed and celebratory occasion. While trying to enjoy the time with the girls, being a lifelong tea drinker and someone who has been to many times at your establishment and its various incarnations, this is something I have never experienced. The food quality was poor (scones were clearly reheated and stuck to the cloth napkin they were wrapped in), and there were notable service lapses, including being served water in a visibly shattered glass. Additionally, when hot water was added to refresh the tea, my stepdaughter's pot curdled and had to be replaced. It was especially disappointing, as I mentioned that I had stopped in and spoken with the concierge, and was assured, as they had called the kitchen while I stood there that they readily accommodated gluten-free. There are numerous places in the city that could have done this, and if you had just told me that you could not do so, I would have booked us elsewhere. I chose not to raise the multiple issues in the moment so as not to disrupt what was meant to be a special day for the girls and me. However, the total cost exceeded $500, and the experience did not come close to justifying that price point! Do not recommend.

If I didn't know it was from Neptune, I'd have given it a 2/10. To my relief, the lobster roll was the total opposite. Succulent, juicy, heavenly. It was like being in Maine. The cioppino was also very good. The Johnnycake was an interesting but fun way to end the meal. It's a sweet pancake-like cornmeal covered in a syrupy glaze and topped with smoked bluefish paste, crème fraiche and caviar. I've never had anything like it. Nothing was super overpriced, but I personally prefer next door (Paulini's), which is much cheaper and while it isn't as good, it also doesn't require waiting in an hour in line. However, I think Neptune's is definitely worth a try as long as you're willing to wait in line.

They have a list of the oysters available and come with an accurate tasting profile to them. We got the Neptune pearl, katama bay, unicorn, and beausoleli. The Neptune pearl was our favorite due to the sweet butter finish. We did prefer the medium salt oysters. The razor clam was also amazing. The razor clam casino came with small bacon pieces, chili oil, and parsley. The clam was cut into pieces paired with a tasty oil. Place is very busy and crowded. Came at an off peak hour and didn't wait long. Quick bite for some oysters.
