Aboriginal art has definitely gone through waves of popularity during my life time. If you bought an Albert Namatjirra or an Emily Ngwarray then good on you, you're now rich. However a lot of people have paid a lot of money for Aboriginal art, very little of which has made its way back to the artists.
In my opinion you should never buy art because it's popular, you should buy it because you love it and it speaks to you. Saltwater Murris-Quandamooka is a great place to buy from if you love Aboriginal art as you're buying pretty much straight from the artists.
