The staff is friendly (but clearly overworked, or doing absolutely nothing) and the food is unremarkable. The drinks are good, but honestly only worth it on special. On our last trip we both ordered steaks of a different cut and cook which were ok, but we didn't realize that we got the wrong stuff until it was too late. We got the wrong steaks with the sides we ordered and were both a bit disappointed. We initially meant to go to 3 friends but they were a bit too busy, but it would have been worth the wait, or even to pick something up from the grocery store as I have been more impressed by what I can do with a steak in the kitchen. I will admit that this is probably the most beautifully decorated location in the area, but that's the only thing justifying the cost. Not impressed with this restaurant.. First of all the seating is uncomfortable.. If you are on the vertically challenge side some of the chairs do not have 2 rungs so you can prop your feet up on them.. therefor they dangle ! Others are so old the cushioning is non existant and you feel the wood slats.. NOT comfortable ! Then there is the food ... my trout was dry and lacked flavor. .. the muscles were good... and the wine nicely priced per glass.. Those were the 2 good points for me.. but that was all... Well here it is several years later and same old service, same half eatable food. The bonus of really coming here is the week night special. Just remember you get what you pay for. I loved the atmosphere and repurpose building. Instead tearing it down building something new. I gotten the salmon and it was delicious. Our server was very sweet and couldn't have done any better! It has been a while but this is one of those places that have a unique menu and good service. Our server was Megan and she was awesome! She recommended the strawberry blonde cocktail for me when I asked for something sweet and they had Thomas Creek red in the bottle which made my hubby happy. We ordered the pickle chips for an appetizer, but combined with the house salad, cornbread and entrees we were stuffed because it was a LOT of food. I ordered the special which was a shrimp creole. The okra and tomatoes paired with a creamy rice and shrimp were divine! Hubby ordered the house sirloin with whipped sweet potatoes, all cooked perfectly. We got the shrimp and grits to go for our daughter and that dish was delicious- the grits were good and creamy. Thankful for a good meal, great server and we will definitely be back. read more

I wanted to try something different for our 18th wedding anniversary. Found this place online and made a reservation for two. I made sure i had confirmation of my reservation, and that night my husband and I made the half hour drive to this restaurant. It was completely packed (not surprised as it was the only decent looking restaurant for 20 miles) and people were jammed up and waiting around the front door like a school of sardines. I spoke with the hostess who informed me...rather rudely... that it could possibly be 45 min wait EVEN WITH A RESERVATON. Additionally, there was no place to stand or sit even if I chose to wait.... which I did not. If you cannot count your number of tables and compare that to the number of reservations and estimated walk-ins....then that does not bode well for the remainder of your management style. Mehhhh. I've passed this place many times and I've always wanted to eat there based on food pics online. I ordered beef medallions. I got a steak cut up into strips. Wasn't impressed. The presentation was great. Mashed potatoes were INSTANT. YUCK! Sautéd spinach was AMAZING. Wayyyyy over priced for boxed mashed potatoes. I really enjoy the Prime Rib and really cannot complain about anything I have ever been served. The restaurant is really nice inside with a huge bar and liquor selection. I ordered a cheeseburger, which arrived quickly and as ordered. The patty was average size and the buns were of normal grocery store variety, not the large restaurant buns that come out toasted. I'd say the burgers are a little overpriced for the size and quality, but definitely not a bad dining experience and will be back to try the steak . Hopefully I will be able to give more stars next time. read more

It's been nearly 18 months since I've been here. Posting about the less than stellar experience we had then. Last night may have been worse. First, a new server who didn't understand the liquor order. Followed by a bartender who ty ook longer top mix 1 drink and pour 2 glasses of wine than it took to receive the entree. Which, by the way, was served without plates. As for dinner, it arrived 45 minutes after ordering. Mind you, the restaurant was at 50% capacity at best. The corn risotto was awful. Pasty and bland. The sweet potato was 20 minutes from done. The 1/2 lb. patty melt was dry and maybe 1/4 lb. What makes all of this hard tip swallow is that the owner is in the restaurant, sitting at a table with friends. When he does seem engaged with his restaurant, its from the rear, staring at his patrons/tables as though they were about to steal from him. Make your customers feel welcome! Walk around, talk with each table. Interact! Ask how the service is, how the food is, presentation, etc... I believe my last review said nearly the same thing. We are officially done with this place. This is a really cute restaurant right near the Saluda River, with a great ambiance and interior. The service is always very good and everything is kept clean and nice. However, the food isn't quite as great as I'd hope-- there is nothing very unique about the cuisine, even the "signature" dishes. I have had both the cheeseburger and the prime rib sirloin, which corresponded with the specials of the day. The burger was nothing to rave about, just pretty plain and not spectacular. The steak was the same, and mine was even cooked a little less than I'd like but the serving and cooking staff was great about having it sent back to be cooked a little longer. This is a great place to come if you want to change up the scenery and dine in a unique environment, but don't come expecting much about the food. You'd have better luck getting some higher-end fast food or cooking at home. read more

This is off the beaten path. I work close by, but have not been by it or would really not have even noticed it. The inside is beautiful. It is renovated completely and I believe it was an old mill. Started with an appetizer of the fried green tomatoes. They were good and a little different than your average friend green tomatoes. They had pimiento cheese with them and it was a zesty and flavorful. The meal was a little underwhelming. Nothing to special outside of the appetizer. The prices are decent though and they have a good drink selection. The inside is just so cozy that I am hoping they will work out the rest to match it. Service was also great and quick. Really it's just the menu and food that lack the spark to make this place great. Being as they are in Piedmont though they really don't compete with the really awesome restaurants of downtown Greenville. But they could at least try a little harder! read more

Waitress was super nice and pleasant. Food... not so good in my opinion. The prime rib had a pot roast texture - not crispy on the outside. I much prefer a crusty outside - not a mushy one. I chalked that up to the chef's taste vs mine. However, there really wasn't an excuse for overdone shrimp and very salting fried pickles. The manager did seam very concerned and she did offer a refund or something else and I declined. I did not want to be an opportunist and take away from my sincere disappointment. I did request one thing out of the manager - tase a piece of shrimp from the kitchen to see how poorly it was cooked. I waited about 5 minutes with no feedback. So, I approached her at the bar and asked if she tried it. She said no. I guess she wasn't all that concerned about the food quality after all. I was pretty sure I reviewed Saluda River Grill but even looking through the filtered reviews I'm not seeing it. So this will have to be off memory and a shortened review. Location is nice and the building it's self is pretty cool. Nice decor. It took a little bit of time for someone to greet us and seat us. I think there was only 2 other tables seated at the time. So no real excuse for them being too busy. Was seated by a nice window high top and nice view. Waitress quickly came to our table to take our orders. Again coming from memory as it was several months ago that we went here. We ordered an app of loaded potatoes, fries or something along those lines. Dinners were a special that was run for the day, had pork, chicken and maybe fish I'm thinking. I ordered the shrimp and grits. App arrived in a timely manner and was pretty good. Meals came and this is where it all went down hill. The lack of seasoning and flavor was the biggest issue. Shrimp and grits had no real taste at all. It was beyond bland. The dinner special was hardly eatable. The gravy on the pork had a very odd, and not in a good way flavor. All the meats were dry and flavorless. I think it would be a great place to go and hang out at the bar for a drink or two but dinner, not so much. read more

Friends have mentioned the Saluda River Grill in a positive way so I decided to give it a try - and I'm glad I did. The evening special was a discounted price on the filet, and it was cooked perfectly. The green beans and sauteed mushrooms were were good accompaniments to the meal. I added the grilled shrimp which were cooked perfectly as well. The rolls weren't anything to brag about, though. A key ingredient for any restaurant is the service, and the Saluda River Grill did not disappoint. Everyone was attentive and helpful without being overbearing. For example, the beverage glass remained topped off without that being a distraction from the meal. I'm told the burger special on Tuesdays is not to be missed, so I'll bring the better half along to try that soon. read more

Great food, service needs lots of work I had come here before. This time, something was wrong with the service. The waitress was clearly totally inexperienced and untrained. She forgot our drinks. She kept interrupting our dinner for useless information. She brought us the check without asking, and before dessert. We therefore chose not to stay for dessert and coffee.
