Delicious menu for restaurant week this year. Started the the course dinner with the crab arancini which was super crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I just wish there was more crab. My friend and I both got the surf and turf pasta which had hand-rolled fettuccini, Maine lobster & beef tenderloin. The tenderloin was so tender and flavorful, it melted in your mouth. The night was topped off with a nice warm brownie. We opted for the the homemade cinnamon whipped cream instead of the mint ice cream. Saludas was the choice tonight for my Mother In Love's G Day ... Walking in to the restaurant immediately up the stairs the ambiance is amazing ... I started the night with a Mexican mule with Don Julio ... then I changed to the gin and tonic with a lime .... For my appetizer I got the raw oysters and they were amazing ... and also I ordered the spicy fried oysters also ... both were amazing ... for my entree I got the lamb dish and subbed the collards for the asparagus due to them being made with pork ... the lamb dish was ok ... needed more season for my taste but it was falling off the bone ... I also ordered the lobster Mac and cheese and it also was lacking that wow factor of flavor.... Overall not a bad outing but my taste buds weren't satisfied ... Saluda's is a special occasion place for my family and I. The food is Southern inspired and done at a really high level. They have one of my favorite filets in town. My partner really likes the fried green tomatoes. Oddly, my favorite part of this place is the ambiance. It is upstairs from the hustle and bustle of Five Points and you can eat in the dining room but my partner and I always eat on the balcony which has a great view of the Five Points Square. The service is great. The staff are all knowledgeable and extremely friendly. This is a great place for a nice dinner out with your person. read more

What an amazing date night on a Sunday. The service was immaculate. The oysters were the freshest that I've had. The homemade limoncello is delicious and the perfect end of the date. Saludas had been on my list of restaurants to visit for a few years, but I never found an opportunity to go. I finally decided I no longer wanted to wait, so my niece and I made reservations for dinner at 7:45. When we arrived the hostesses were very friendly and welcoming. We were promptly sat at our table and the ambiance was amazing. Our server was quick to greet us and offer us water. She gave us ample amount of time to decide on our appetizers and she guided us through the menu with expertise. Our appetizers came out relatively quick and they were amazing. We got the fried oysters and fried green tomatoes. These were excellent choices. Both dishes had phenomenal flavor. I reserve my 5 star for real 5 star experiences. Let's start with the staff. We had a reservation at 7 PM. We showed up early in Hope's of grabbing a drink at the bar but as soon as we arrived, despite them being busy they said they could accommodate us and get us a table. And it was better from there. Our server was very friendly, prompt and willing to make nice suggestions. She knew the menu well and was the right amount of attentive. The Food: we started with the fried green tomatoes and we both agree they were the best we've ever had. My wife had the shrimp and grits and I had the pasta de jour. This night the meat choice was blackened shrimp. Everything about it was great. The pasta is made in house and cooked perfectly. Not quite al dente but but firm not mushy or sticky. The shrimp was likewise cooked perfectly and very flavorful. In fact I cant wait to return to have the pasta again. My wife enjoyed her meal. But loved her cocktails. She had the blood orange margarita and the cucumber martini made with their house infused vodka. The cucumber martini was her favorite. Overall our experience was great. It's not inexpensive so be prepared to spend your money, but to us it was worth every savory bite. We will return during our next visit to Columbia. read more

Very fancy smancy place with an interesting take on southern favorites. I tried the pork belly roast and fried devil egg appetizers, the Pasta du Juor, and the lemon pound cake. The pork belly roast tasted as if it were grilled on some hot coals in the backyard, but the finishing added that flair of fancy. Fried deviled eggs were good, but different. Not very heavy like the kind you would get at a down south cookout. The pasta had a Louisiana feel to it. Kind of spicy and the sausage was more like a beef/steak like feel, but good though. It wasn't a lot in the bowl either, just FYI. The pound cake was good, not overly sweet, and definitely not your grandma's pound cake. Very dense. Server was very nice and accommodating. She also knew what dishes to recommend, so that was helpful. I would come back to this restaurant to try other dishes, but this is definitely a special occasion spot. I made a reservation here several weeks in advance. We dined here on a Saturday evening around 6:30 p.m. We arrived a bit before our time slot, as we were unfamiliar with the area. The restaurant is located in the '5 points' area of Columbia, roughly a mile (or less) from the state capitol building and downtown. There is quite a bit of street parking in the immediate area. We were able to find a space nearby and walked back to the restaurant. The only thing that confused me was that it wasn't obvious (from driving by) where the restaurant was located. It didn't seem to match what was shown on phone-app maps. It turned out that the restaurant occupies the top floor of a building (the bottom being a Starbuck's). You enter via a door at ground-level and ascend the stairs to the restaurant. The evening we at there was chilly. The balcony/porch was open for dining and had heaters, but we opted to dine inside. This was a good choice, as those sitting outside kept their coats on! Inside, the space has hardwood floors and a large bar. Service was prompt. We split a salad. I got a beef filet while my wife opted for a pork chop. The food was tasty. There were no real negatives about our experience. If I were in the area again, I'd consider this place for a special occasion meal. read more

If I could give this 4 1/2 stars I would. Decor is nice, a little dimly lit. I'm getting older so I had to use my phone flashlight to read the men. (Not their fault entirely, I have bad eyesight) I considered the Ciappino appetizer but it wasn't traditional, it was a tomato based broth and the server told me it was more like your standard sautéed mussels with Lobster than a true Ciappino. So I opted for a different starter. A few of the appetizers caught my eye. The meat had options I love, and cheese board also had some interesting options tonight. I even considered the fried deviled eggs. But in the end I chose the wedge salad with smoked blue cheese dressing, gorgonzola crumbles and housemade bacon. It was so amazing I cleaned my plate! $10 Next Course: Venison Osso Bucco. This was a treat and fall-off-the-bone tender. The venison is coffee rubbed then covered in a sone sort of sauce with chocolate. It was so sweet it tasted like they used milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate. Then they put this sweet chocolate sauced (2 pieces) of venison shank over a HUGE helping of brown sugar- bourbon mashed sweet potatoes. Very delicious but overall far too sweet for my palate as an entree. The only saving graces were the excellent Green beans, and the bone marrow. SERIOUSLY, take the effort to extract it. It's fatty, creamy, meaty... and a NICE contrast to all of the sweet on the plate! I have no photos because I was too hungry to take photos. I will say that it was so sweet I left most of the mashed sweet potatoes on the plate and chose s cognac as my "Dessert " instead! Wedge Salad $10 Venison Osso Bucco $34 Bottle of Quattro Mani Barbera $35 (they will recork for free) Remy Martn 1738 $12 Total $91 + $9.70 taxes Grand Total $100.70 Impressions: freaking expensive for one person, but probably affordable if you were splitting the wine bottle and appetizers. That being said, I might eat here again but now I know I need to budget about $100 for my meal. I've waaaay worse food at Ruth's Chris for more money, To be honest my experience at Ruth's Chris was SO bad, I probably won't eat there again. I have been here twice and had excellent experiences both times. The food is lovely and while it is delicious there is not a great deal of it. I have seen the steak, shrimp and grits, fried green tomato appetizer and the scallop dish. While they are all yummy, this is definitely a fancy food space. I never took a box home and usually ate a snack before bed. The location is lovely both interior and the beautiful patio area. Great wine selection. Definitely a nice date night spot. I was surprised by the different kinds of people who ate here. It really ran the gambit. The service was excellent and the seating is comfortable. Other than being a little bit hungry after I left every time, I think this is a great spot. The patio would be super romantic if you could get caught having dinner in a thunderstorm. my husband and I selected Saluda's last night for date night and it did not disappoint! Our server, Bianca, was excellent and helpful. I had the scallops and he had the pork chop and both were cooked to perfection! We ordered the side of asparagus and bacon/Gouda Mac and cheese to split and had to bring almost all the Mac and cheese home because the portions were very generous! Fish was savory. Would order again. Cons: The grapefruit mule was standard, little weak on flavor and alcohol. Pasta De Jour was bland and one toned. Very disappointed for $30. To much chimichurri I think. Flavor was kind of there, but needed more salt and spices. Mood was good. Beware flys if you decide to sit outdoor after 7:30pm. Service was slightly above standard. I'm sure this restaurant is more deserving of 4 out of 5 stars but tonight my husband and I were served over cooked pork belly and mussels for our appetizers (the main star in the pork belly was the pickled cherrie but could not save the dryness of the pork itself). My husband enjoyed the main scallop dish and I enjoyed the surf and turf pasta but for me the dishes didn't warrant a "holy shit I must come back here" second trip. Honestly the best thing I tasted was their pear salad; yet it's something you can make at home. Service was good but a little lack luster in food taste. Maybe I've been to so many restaurants all over the states that I've become too much of a food snob however experiencing all that I've experienced, this place is just ....okay. Well thank you Yelpers for all the Reviews, I took that information and made a dinner reservation for 5 people last night at Saluda's!! Three of us showed up early and went to the bar area for a drink! Cool bar vast selection of Bourbons and Whiskeys so I ordered my go to Crown Royal and Ginger Ale. Bartender made a generous pour very thankful. The three of us decided to grab an appetizer while waited on the rest of our party. We ordered the Sweet and Spicy Fried Oysters with Chipotle Lime Aioli, it was delicious! The hostess came by and let us know our table was ready, early by 15 minutes, way to go Saluda's. The table decided to have another cocktail while we decided on dinner and just having good conversation. The Wine List here is incredible so many great wines, I ordered bottle of PlumpJack Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, perfection!! We placed our orders and the kitchen did not take long to bring out the Salads. I had the Wedge Salad with Gorgonzola crumble and champagne blue cheese dressing was a yummy start! Others started with the Pear and Arugula Salad and the House Salad And all were happy with their choices! Then for my entrée I had the NY Strip with Asparagus and Potatoes. Oh my that Strip was cooked to Medium Rare Perfection and tasted phenomenal and that second bottle of PlumpJack paired up great! Others had the Scallops and Filet entrees and were equally impressed! I am a huge follower of Eater essential lists and this was my source for the decision to dine from here. rest I did curb side pick up one Sunday evening due to social distancing purposes. From the outside the restaurant looked very classy and I really wish circumstances were non-COVID. I would have loved to go in to experience the environment. The hostess who brought the food out to me was very welcoming and friendly. Anyway, I had the pasta du jour for my main course. I honestly was not a fan of this item. It lacked major flavor. The pasta didn't taste fresh even though the menu said that it was house made. For dessert I had the the triple chocolate ganache cake. The cake was not memorable in anyway. It was nothing to rave about it. I am giving this restaurant 3/5 only because the service was great and I believe it has potential.
