For those of us who like a lie in on a Sunday morning, the short communion is followed by a Sung Eucharist at 10.30am. Sunday School is held at the same time (with the exception of the 2nd sunday of every month). There is a creche offered which little people can attend. Evening services are held every second Sunday in the month at 6.30pm for an evening communion. On the third Sunday in the month a Healing service is held at 6.30pm. A Healing Service involves the laying on of hands. This is usually led by members of the Healing Team. On a Wednesday there is mid-week communion. Really nice - if you want the healing team to pray for you, you can go onto their website and send in a prayer request!

There is a good mix of age groups and the atmosphere feels good. There is a sunday club for children while the service takes place and a youth group on a tuesday evening. A week on Saturday (26th June) they are having afternoon tea and a beatle drive. I am not sure what the beatle drive will entail but would be interested to find out for curiousity! Inside, the church is beautiful. The pews are fairly comfortable as church seats go.

The local congregation many of whom went to my primary and secondary school are all friendly locals who are charitable and compassionate joining in wholeheartedly with community fundraisers and appeals. The parish holds close ties with it's local namesake St Edmund's School which stands beside it. The large brick building connected to the lower school is the parish hall where lots of local clubs such as dance groups meet.

The first thing to say is that it's a beautiful building. It's bright, airy and quite modern -- and big too, with seating for around 500 I would say. Both times I've been there I've been struck by what an inspiring place it is to worship. We've always received a very warm welcome when we've been there too. The people who have greeted us have been friendly and hospitable. Granted, that's unsurprising on a day when the church hosting hundreds of church-goers from the local area, but you can't learn to be hospitable overnight! I am sure that if we went to a normal Sunday service we would be welcomed just as warmly. All in all, then, a beautiful and welcoming church: highly recommended.

It is, as you might expect,…read moresteeped in history -- almost as much as the old rectory, Wigan Hall, a fantastic historic building tucked away on the other side of the bus station. When it's open, it's well worth wandering in, admiring the architecture, or just sitting to reflect or pray -- there's something very powerful about doing so in a place where so many people done the same for hundreds of years in the past. All in all, therefore, well worth a visit if you're in Wigan.
