This was the only sitdown restaurant near my gate at HNL airport. I was very hungry, so I decided to sit down. I was served quickly, and everybody was friendly I decided to go with the beach nachos..... tortilla chips, queso sauce, pico de gallo, jalapeño (I forgot to ask them to leave it off, so I just picked it off my food,) , chimichurri salsa, avocado cream, and for my protein, I chose kalua pork. The nachos were very good, but nothing spectacular. It wasn't a huge portion, but it was a fair sized portion The queso sauce was The consistency of the "stadium stuff" nacho cheese, but it did taste much better. There was a good amount of tortilla chips, and they were not greasy, all of the toppings played well together, and the Kaúa pork was tender and delicious. The big problem I had, was with food, soda, tax, and tip, almost $38 out the door just for a plate of nachos? I realize, yes, it's Honolulu, yes, it's the airport, and yes, I'm paying for the name of Sammy Hagar, but this is still a ridiculous price. Next time I will just grab a sandwich. Out of a cold case. It is understandable that a restaurant within Honolulu airport can get busy. It is understandable you can be short staffed-- it is never a time for rudeness. Even when there are un-bussed tables, we get it, just be polite within the service/ hospitality industry. We are between flights and there is no signage about 'seat yourself' when we arrive. Just an inattentive or purposeful ignoring by the only server was experienced. Again, busy is understandable. We politely asked as she walked past for the 4th time without acknowledgment. "Do we seat ourselves? Will someone clear the tables?" "You just have to wait". Was the response, just as sharp as I'm typing. In the meantime other guests (2+ parties behind us) were heading to the same table. We flagged down the bus person to clear the table. We order chicken fingers. Soggy heat lamp warmed fries but crispy deep battered fingers. Solid helping. Warm beer. Warm warm. When I overheard another patron ask 'do you have cold beer?' And the response "it's all about the same room temp" we understood this is what it is and there are no excuses, accommodations, or expectations for improvement. Plenty of places have chicken fingers and I hope plenty more have cold beer. Go there. Chicken tenders will be $25 regardless. And you get 5. read more

The servers were incredibly sweet and welcoming, which I really appreciated. However, the food took much longer than expected, especially considering there weren't many people waiting. If I had been rushing for a flight, it would have been stressful but luckily, I had time. I usually don't post negative reviews, but since I fly out of this airport often, I'm leaving this as a personal reminder to avoid this spot if possible. Service was 10/10, everything came out fast. I'm honestly shocked by all the bad reviews. The food was good in general and great by airport food standards. My husband got the burger and I got the grilled chicken sandwich. The burger and chicken were a tiny bit dry. The toppings on each sandwich were fresh and delicious. The seasoned fries were cooked perfectly, nice and crispy. We got a side of the chipotle aioli for the fries and that was delicious as well. I got the Mai tai which was delicious. Opposed to packing up & going nowhere else since this was the only restaurant open in Gate C, I stayed. Good things come to those who wait. As Nani took over & made my next three hours of waiting a bearable one. Not much of a menu aside from your normal fast, casual bar food, especially in a airport setting. Yet, I was able to have the Avocado Tacos & good glass of Cab = $27.49 ridiculously overpriced. The communal tables have charging outlets affixed to the top. I think there was one only other outlet by one of the booths. Take advantage of charging your devices here at Sammy's or at the standing stall (4 outlets) next to, as there's no outlets on the seats in front of the gates. Lat call at 9:30P & closes at 10P. Sammy's was an oasis in the airport after tackling airport traffic and security on a hot afternoon. I only stopped for drinks so can't comment on the food. The restaurant opens at 4:00 pm to service terminal C passengers. They are located near Gate C2. I was the only customer at 4:15. Nina gave me 5 star service....pampered me even. She was delightfully friendly in an "aloha" way. She offered me food options that were not even on the menu. She was prompt and efficient with my order. My drink was perfect...cold, refreshing and prepared me for the long flight ahead. The restaurant is clean. Seats are well spaced out, but a little uncomfortable (hard). My only suggestion was for drink prices to be stated in the menu. I'll be back. read more

I've gotten to the point where I do not touch airline food and I try to avoid airport food unless absolutely necessary. In this case, we had not eaten all day and for some reason most stores and restaurants in the Honolulu airport close at 5pm or 6pm, so Sammy's was one of the very few restaurants that was open on a Sunday. I think to be successful in the Honolulu airport all a business has to do is to stay open later than everyone else and people will flock in because there are few options. If I eat in an airport, the other thing I do is to choose a food item which has the lowest chance of being screwed up or really bad. In other words, what has the least chance of going wrong. I chose nachos because they are hard to ruin: some chips, some cheese, some toppings, and that's pretty much it. Sammy's pork nachos were actually pretty good, I enjoyed them and don't have any complaints. Likewise, another item that is hard to ruin is a quesadilla. Tortilla, cheese, and something else inside. The wife got the chicken quesadilla and said it was good. So we escaped unscathed. Prices were a bit high but hey somebody has to pay for Sammy's fancy cars. I am a little shocked that the Red Rocker is in the business of airport restaurants. A long way from his days with Van Halen! read more

Rude hostess that doesn't respond and just nods in anger paid $23 for three pieces of cold tenders absolutely terrible. At least they remade them for me it was actually unbelievable. At the Kahalui Airport if you want a sit down meal to while away your wait time til your departing flight you might try Sammy's. It's an option from the food court next door. The food and table service are both okay for being at an airport. If you are getting off a flight and have a rental car you might want to look up Yelp for some tastier local restaurants or take out places. You'll see the famous Krispy Kreme right away. But if you are stuck at the airport you can also visit the shops and Starbucks there for a sugar overload of manju, cookies, banana bread and Maui chips from the newsstand. Sammy's has a more substantial menu. Let your appetite lead the way. read more

First tried this place in Maui on my way back to oahu . I had these nachos that was huge and unforgettable. Really good ! So I stumbled across this place at the C gates in the honolulu international airport. I work here so I was on a lunch break and decided to order those nachos I remembered in a too go box. The place was pretty slow but the flights weren't that busy at the moment. I ordered from the bartender and he was so friendly and personable even offered me water n lemon while I wait for my food. Stranded for an airplane hydraulic issue, we had an hour and hunger to take care of. This day, 2 hosts were inviting us to both ends of the restaurant. It has some guitars and memorabilia of Hagar and other rockers. Service was great and cleanliness wonderful. Foodwise, sorry. The tempura hot dogs were sliced hot dog pieces dipped and fried in tempura batter. Intriguing. Had the the chimichurri chix nachos. Again, intriguing. We had a couple hours to kill before our 9:30 pm flight and as we discovered, there are very few places open past 6pm which just seems odd. We were looking for a place to sit for a while and also have a beer. This fit the bill perfectly. It was fairly empty. The waitress was attentive. the beer was cold. The food arrived quickly. The burgers and fries were hot and good. There were plenty of napkins and a pleasant place to relax. THE ONLY THING I'll warn you about is the location. We were getting ready to go and only then realized our gate was at the OTHER end of the airport (and the sign right outside the restaurant indicate it's about a 15-20 minuet walk.) LUCKILY, we are in shape because with little time to spare, a wheelchair and a luggage cart full of bags to much, we started walking quickly on our way. When we arrived at the escalator, I asked an airline guy where the nearest elevator was and he directed me what turned out to be OUTSIDE a point of return. We then had to go BACK through the security checks (with an elderly man and his replacement knees which had to go through special x-rays and his wheelchair and cane which get special investigation), and then get us all repacked and really ran all the way to the gate. Sweat and out of breath, but on the plane, we were ready to head to the Big Island!!! read more

We stopped in Honolulu airport gate C on our way to a tight flight. We had 45 minutes before take off. I asked the male server the service is quick he seemed to hesitate a bit before saying "yeah". I shoulda known. He wasn't our server it was a woman, Jasmine. They were standing at the bar and The man informed her we were in a rush. She looked over her shoulder and said be right with you. That wasn't true we waited and waited and finally she came. We gave order. Instead of putting it into the computer right away, she brought some people water and our teas then input our orders. Then she disappeared. She was gone so long our food was set up outside the kitchen window and she wasn't there to bring it. I asked the male server if he'd bring it he reluctantly agreed then said the ticket wasn't with the food so he couldn't bring it. Finally the bartender stepped from behind the bar and brought it to us. When our server returned we were already eating and she never asked how we got the food or how it tasted. She just didn't care. What a poor attitude. She had gone to the bathroom and gift shop. Needless to say her tip was basically nonexistent. I couldn't live with myself if I left nothing but that's what I wanted to do. Bottom line: Service: HORRIBLE!! Insulting. Food: Good- Chicken Quesadillas and Fish & Chips Price: Too Much $60 for the two items above plus two iced teas. Maybe service better sitting at the bar. I was really looking for a grab and go and since they offered plenty of seating and hula dancing and music was right next door I decided to give them a try. My Mahi Mahi fish & chips under "favorites" was so good. I was pleasantly surprised by how big they were and the sauce was so good. Service was excellent and fast. No one likes waiting around an airport, so lets grab some food! Sammy's was right up our alley. We were lucky enough to grab a table quickly. It filled up fast as it was a popular place for others to eat as well. With all of the hustle and bustle going on, our waiter was on top of it. He was so attentive with our drinks while taking care of the many many tables. It was much appreciated. We ordered a few things to share~ The Beach Nachos w/kalua pork as well as the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. The nachos were generously covered in toppings. The avocado crema sauce wonderfully complimented each bite. It was a large plate to share. The Grilled chicken sandwich was piled high with a large piece of chicken, bacon, avocado, onion and aioli. I was impressed with it. The crispy side of fries hit the spot as they were sprinkled with a chili spice. Everything had a great flavor. I was satisfied with our choices and ready to fly home.
