Decided to try their Country Fried Steak breakfast. I gotta say, it was nicely battered (not too thick) and crispy! The white gravy was lacking a bit of flavor but at least it was not salty. I got it with a side of country potatoes, there are bits grilled onions and green peppers mixed in. Also got a waffle (eat this on site and not to-go), and was a good normal size. Their bacon is bomb. I know it's strange because it's just bacon. But they cook theirs crispy and crispy. My BF and I were looking for a new place to try and we found this place based on some other reviews and pics. We went there and saw the cute cafe diner type place. The old car pics on the back of the booths are a really cute touch. We were greeted nicely when we came in, and were seated right away. We were given a beverage and plenty of time to look over both menus. We weren't sure if we were in the mood for breakfast or lunch. There were so many choices that we had to spend some time perusing the menus. After careful consideration, we both decided we were in the mood for breakfast. I ordered the red velvet waffle with cream, sunnyside eggs and bacon cooked to my liking. My BF had french toast with scrambled eggs and bacon to his liking. We both enjoyed our food and our waiter and waitress, who were both assisting us with our needs. After thinking about it I saw a lunch menu item I wished I had ordered. It was a pot roast sandwich with fries. I decided to order it to go and eat it later. We were given our food to go but then the waitresses yelled, Hey, what did you give them? Luckily they doubled checked I would have gotten someone else's pot roast order. Just one of those timing issues grabbing a similar order. They found the boo boo and we had a good laugh about it. I love this place! Great food; varied menu; friendly, efficient service; reasonably priced; immaculate; convenient location. I used to go here 2 or 3 times per week, but I moved away. Sammi's cafe is located between Foothill and Vineyard in a shopping center near Wendy's and Thai Tea restaurant. My son and I wanted to go to this place, to check out their dinner menu. Overall it is what I expected from a diner or cafe, it's a hit or miss depending on what you order and in this case, my son had bacon cheeseburger and I ordered the chicken pot pie. My son enjoyed his burger and the pot pie was mediocre at best. I don't like my crust soggy but the filling was not bad. Upland needed a cafe that was small and family style owned. They have great prices. We love the weekday specials $5.99 you get eggs, hash browns, meat, and choice of toast, biscuits & gravy, or pancakes. I believe they have weekend specials too. It's open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They now have a couple locations but after having all I still think upland location is the best tasting! The waiters are super friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Victor and Cheri are the best to serve you. Anyone looking for a new spot to make their regular breakfast stop any day of the week this is you place. Besides the breakfast special give the French toast cinnamon roll pancake a try! Yucky yucky yuck......first my husband ordered the breakfast burrito. Half way through he bit into something crunchy (he ordered no opinion and it wasn't an accidental onion) so he told the waiter, come to find out their eggs are out of carton. So what was actually crunchy in that burrito. 2nd: how do you put on the menu 2 eggs when they come out of a carton. And why aren't they telling people that it's eggs in a carton and not real eggs used, and also refried beans from a can. 3rd: I ordered a waffle well done and with strawberries, The waiter didn't tell me there was a $2 up charge for the strawberries in a jar. I wouldn't have ordered them. 4th and the most important, my husband does not look Mexican and like his first language would be Spanish. He went up to pay and the waiter and cook were talking crap about him in Spanish. When my husband replied in Spanish they looked shocked. Do yourself a favor and drive on by. I highly recommend Sammy's for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The staff is friendly and the cooks are fast and expert at their business. Came here last week with my wife and son and had a pleasant breakfast experience...i stopped by myself to grab a quick bite to eat but had to use the restroom first and a waiter blocked the entrance to the restroom like if he was a goalie in soccer.. asking me how many was in my party. I said party of 1 and he kept on asking me how many people would be joining me tonight. Walked in with a party of 6, restaurant was busy. Was told there would be a wait, which was fine. Waited for 40 minutes, restaurant was emptying out, but instead of trying to accommodate my party of six, they just kept seating the smaller parties as they were walking in. However, a similar dish can go for a little less at other breakfast dinners. 3/5. Chorizo and Egg Burrito ($8.99): refried beans, potatoes, cheese, eggs, no sour cream. Another hefty portion burrito that is good, but a little pricey when comparing to other locations with a similar sized burrito. 3/5. Their country potatoes are well seasoned and a great accompaniment to each breakfast dish. The salsa that accompanies the Mexican dishes is mediocre. Service is decent and the staff is friendly. Food is served in a timely manner and a hot pot of coffee makes its way around the dinning room often enough that your mug won't run dry. When it comes time to ask for the check, they seem to be too busy taking orders or serving patrons, so it becomes a task to flag your server to get the bill. My experience at Sammy's only includes the breakfast menu, but be aware they are open during lunch and dinner service. read more

Came here expecting generic, uninspired food and left as a fan. The chicken fried steak breakfast I had was pretty good, as was were the pancakes with bacon bits cooked in the batter (which I was able to sample from my friend). When I ordered my chicken fried steak, I received the usual question about what type of toast I wanted, but they also offered pancakes as one of the options, which was an unexpected but welcome surprise. And, they were actually very good, which scored some major points with me. The restaurant is nicely decorated, meaning it's not festooned with things to give you the illusion you are eating at your grandmother's house out in the country. Sight unseen, I brought my visiting parents here from out of town because it was the only local place I could think of to get pancakes. My folks (your average Californian 60-somethings, touring in an RV) fell in love with this place! The ambiance inside left a little to be desired, so we sat out on the patio in the sunshine and had a terrific time! Any place with a sunny patio at breakfast time gets extra points in my book. We were afraid we would be neglected outside, but that was not the case at all. The service was great. Our water glasses and coffee cups were never less than half full (good coffee by the way!) The servers were obviously so proud of the cafe! They recommended things and talked up menu items. My mom ordered the "breakfast enchiladas" at the recommendation of the waiter. It turns out these were just ordinary chicken enchiladas, which struck us as odd, but they were tasty. I had the Huevos Rancheros which I would order again in a heartbeat. Delicious. Dad ordered the strawberry pancakes. He was bummed they weren't fresh strawberries, but otherwise enjoyed them. It's not a particularly "hip" place, but I will go back, maybe to try the Bacon Pancakes (yeah, you read that right, Bacon Pancakes). I would much rather support Sammy's Cafe than a big chain with very similar pancakes and a less interesting menu! We have been eyeing Sammy's Cafe while they were opening up, and we were curious and also excited to see "new blood" in town as far as food places were concerned. Finally one night, we decided to give it a try. We were greeted by a very friendly host who showed us to our seats. Perusing the menu, they have a very nice selection of sandwiches, burgers, entrees and breakfast foods. The prices were average, maybe a little on the high end for some entrees (especially considering they are new and we're not sure yet if it'll be worth the risk or not). I decided to go with the tuna melt. One the side I had a salad, and kudos to Sammy's for offering side salads as an option instead of french fries, as in most other restaurants you have to beg them for it or they end up charging extra. My husband had a patty melt with potato cheddar soup. Here is the deal, I'm torn. I really want to support this cafe because it's local, but as an unbiased reviewer, I can honestly say that food-wise, I'm not sure what would make me keep coming back for more. The tuna melt was average and could probably have used another spoonful or two of tuna salad on it. I tasted my husband's patty melt, and that too was average and a little on the bland side. The soup I didn't taste, however I was informed that it too could have used some more flavor. The service was great, loved the waiters, in fact we knew a couple of them from another restaurant that we go to, which makes it even harder for me to post this mediocre review because they are 5-star servers. Alas, 3 stars is all I can give right now. Perhaps I'll make another try in a few weeks and if I have a better culinary experience, I'll come back and update my review. read more
