Yet they completely disregard it and are very dismissive and even rude to people whoghey perceive as not "Muslim enough. I want better for my children and the community in general. If you got this far into reading this, stay far away from this mosque. A friend of mine started attending Ethnos over the summer. She claimed she was atheist, and that she went for curiosity's sake. I internally groaned and thought, "Noooo, they're going to get to her too! Damn it!" Yes, I fully admit I'm a bigot when it comes to one or two things in life. Anyway, last week I asked her if she was still going to the weekly services. MK indeed was, and told me all about the previous sermon; it seemed pretty interesting and had little to do about religion. She claimed that the pastor rarely touched upon religion and usually just philosophized for an hour or so. When MK told me this week's topic was sex, I thought, "Hmm, maybe I should check this place out." And I did. As we were approaching the entrance this morning,she gave me some surprising news: "Uh yeah, for the first hour we sing." Uh, thanks for letting me know that in advance. Singing and me have a rather unpleasant relationship. Thankfully the lights were turned low and not everyone was singing along. A non-singer such as myself could feel quite comfortable just listening to the music. I should also note the music was very lively. And my friend was wrong- the music session was 30 minutes at most. Following that was a prayer session for 10-15 minutes. We were supposed to get into groups of 3-4 people. Given the fact I only pray during sporting events, I just chatted to MK and her friend. No one seemed to mind. So props for that. Finally came the pastor and his talk on sex. He chose to focus on Proverbs 5:1-23. I thought it was a pretty sweet passage and even us heretical agnostics could apply its lesson to our lives. I liked the sermon until the pastor's solution in handling sexual frustration: turn to God. When he elaborated, he actually chose some Pslam that said "right hand" and I thought that was appropriate. Unfortunately he wasn't making an innuendo to masturbation; had he done so, I would have immediately decided to make a return visit. The pastor wasn't as liberal as me, and still insisted that one should wait for sex until marriage. Yeah, that's when I remembered why I'm not a church goer, and the "Give me a freaking break" line started to run over and over through my mind. So overall, it is a pretty nice service. It isn't SUPER liberal, but it ain't Pat Robertson territory either. And lastly, if anyone tells you about Ethnos, and claims religion is downplayed here, DON'T BELIEVE THEM! (just to make it clear, last line was a joking reference to my friend, and not anyone directly related to Ethnos)

They encourage you to stay awhile and enjoy lunch in the outdoor area at the school. This outdoor area has trees and furniture that you might see at a colorful café in Hawaii. Food is served, their hospitality is one of a kind. Aloha is everywhere. While we are in Covid, the services are done 2 times a month in an outdoor area at The Torrey Pines Church in La Jolla. A lot of people also tune in online. Aloha's people are wonderful and the messages are always inspirational. We have also really enjoyed a weekly Mini Church on Thursday night which for now is on zoom.

It caters to all most all the gods we worship in india. I would say this is one of a kind in San Diego. Every Monday they have a puja for lord Shiva and Thursday's day have Sai baba. Every Indian festival is celebrated at this temple and it's good outing with family. In that market they have an Indian grocery store, restaurant and many more things. We have found it to be a beautiful and filled not with strangers but rather friends we had not yet met! The Sunday service is in English and is an hour long from 10:30-11:30. The Mandarin service occurs at the same time and is located in the fellowship hall. At least once a month we all come together after the Sunday services for lunch which costs $4.00. There are many other Sunday lunches offered such as Chinese New Years, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Summer Retreat, Thanksgiving & Christmas. The beautiful services are available on YouTube. We have found the Wednesday prayer meeting on Zoom to be a dedicated group of people who believe in the power of prayer, and faithfully pray for many who have serious challenges to their health. Our church supports many missionaries to places such as Baja, Africa, Japan And ministry projects to the Middle East.Periodically we have these missionaries come and share their progress. We also pray for and support Samaritans' Purse with outreach to our country as well as world wide ministry to people in need. Our pastors are engaging and bring practical ways we can bring our Christian belief in loving our neighbors and colleagues in life. This church also has Sunday school and nursery programs as well as a Panda Preschool Program. Once a month there is an optional Panda Chapel service for 30 minutes to bring Bible stories and songs to toddlers! If you are looking for a church that encourages you to love God and your neighbors, to read the Bible with joy and pray daily with faith that God truly hears and directs our path in this life, consider joining us in 2025!

It felt like an escape since I was unplugged from my phone and silent for a few hours. The grounds are beautiful and the pond was my favorite view to take in the beauty of nature watching the dragonflies, bees, fish, and birds. I loved the songs, calming bells, meditative walk, and dharma talk. It was long though and my old body had to keep changing positions on the mat. I felt so relaxed and peaceful that I wished a nap was included. The translator was terrific! I enjoyed hearing about everyone's experience during the sharing opportunity (yet it was fine to pass the mic and not speak too). Then we ate a freshly prepared vegetarian meal at the end and had some free time afterwards to revisit the pond and bookstore/gift shop. Before leaving, I got a few photos after the event ended (since it would ruin the mood, be distracting to others, and defeat the purpose if phones were used during the experience.) It was a great to focus on breathing, quieting thoughts, and being present. Thanks for offering this tranquil opportunity to the public. I definitely encourage anyone who visits to make a donation if able.
