1000 Lights Water Lantern Festival - Lots of food trucks at the festival!

A nice night to be at Hansen Dam for the lantern festival. It was during Mother's Day weekend, so I…read morebrought my mom along with me to enjoy this event. We got here an hour after it started, so we had to park in the further parking lot which was an easy walk over. As we approached the open area, food trucks and vendors were all around the parking lot and checkin was easy. We got to chose from four different colors of mandala bags, which had our essentials inside to making our lanterns as well as some extra goodies. We grabbed some ice cream and then found a spot in the sun near the stage to enjoy the live entertainment before the lantern meditation kicked off. As the sun was setting we walked over to the lake and waited to let our lanterns float in the water. I added some sayings, drawings and in remembrance for family who passed away. It really was a magical night and I'm glad I was able to do this with my mom to celebrate an early Mother's Day. We let our lanterns go and walked over to the doc to get an overall view of everyone else's. We didn't end up staying till the end as it was getting chilly and there was still an hour left of setting the lanterns off. **I also want to say thank you Yelp for the giveaway tickets to this event, I would have never thought to check it out without discovering it here. They have the lantern festival in different lakes across the states so be sure to check out where they'll be next!

The lay out of the event was good. For people who have never been to this park it can be confusing…read moreon where to park. It would be best to post signs around the area and in other places around the other parking lots that the park has. Second problem were the portable bathrooms... half way through the event there was no toilet paper in any of the stalls and the sinks ran out of water. At least post a sign saying there's no water and toilet paper since there's no one maintaining them. Also I'd suggest y'all consider taking back the complimentary backpacks and marker that y'all give out with the lanterns. I know they come with the ticket and some people want to keep the bags and marker. But personally I would have wanted to give it back to y'all to use for the next event. Anyway it'd be a nice optional choice is what I'm saying. The food trucks were good.

Decent amount of workers picking up trashing and turning over tables. Cons: Kinda expensive parking. The soccer field is very dry and uneven, a fall risk for sure. Not that much shade anywhere. Watermelon slices not free this year. Not a fan of the excessive AI useage for decor, signs, and menus looks cheap. Probably wouldn't return but it was a good, one time experience.

There were lots of food booths, gift booths selling watermelon-themed products, petting zoo with pony rides, carnival rides, and live music. We enjoyed the vintage car display, and we ate our fair share of watermelon themed food and drank watermelon themed cocktails. It was nice to dance to the live bands that they had playing all day. However, it is not a cheap experience if you are trying to entertain your family. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for kids, and you have to pay $15 to park. Then food is about $20 for a plate, cocktails range from $14-$24, and unlimited carnival rides are $30 per ticket. And the petting zoo and the pony rides also cost money. So if you are a family of four, you will be spending a small fortune. I think my Hubby and I had a cheap date compared to the parents since we just ate and drank and danced to the live bands. The lines are also just sooooo long to get any kind of food or drink. I think as far as fairs go, this is a pretty typical one save for the watermelon theme, but I think parents should be prepared to drop a lot of money. Would be comparable to going to Magic Mountain or Knott's Berry Farm.

This fair does have rides , which looked pretty fun. The food was your typical fair food, everything we tried was ok. I appreciated the security at the front entrance checking people in. There was a good command presence, and they did a good job walking around making sure everything was on the up and up. There were plenty of tables and chairs to eat and enjoy the live entertainment. The crowd was having fun and the volunteers did a good job keeping everything running smoothly. It's always nice to support the local schools They have silent auction and hourly 50/50 raffles. The parking lot gets full rather quickly, so expect to look for street parking. All in all it was a fun outing

The amount of carnival games I almost non-existent for a fair, as there were only 6 games total for attendees to play. Definitely not enough variety for kids. And winning tickets which they needed to redeem for prizes that looked rather sad and definitely not even worth $1, even for 6+ tickets is just sad. A slightly positive in that most games were priced reasonably for current standards at $3-5 ea play. The lines for the rides were all very lengthy and doubt you could really get your money's worth from the unlimited ride wristband. Otherwise each ride would cost from $6 and up. The food selection was average though with plenty of varied options. While I do like to support the local community when I can, not sure I would attend this again next year with the decrease in carnival type atmosphere and seemingly more of a pocketbook stretcher to get any fun out of this fair.
