My neighbour recently took me here for dinner and she told me how great this place is. I opted for the steak and chicken fajita platter! You can select your meat and even have a surf n turf (with shrimp) if you'd like! The food came out and boy was the platter sizzling! The smell of the meat cooking was so good and filled the table with an amazing aroma! The side dishes came out which included beans, rice, pico and guacamole/sour cream. I opted for corn tortillas. The food tasted so good, full of flavour and the side dishes also tasted fresh and delicious! I decided I need one do the many special margaritas they serve, which helped making dinner a very fun and yummy experience. Service is great, very attentive staff greet you immediately and seat you down. I did go on a Friday evening which was kind of busy, but the wait for a table was minimal. During our entire dinner service, we were checked on often and made sure we were taken care of. The price is very reasonable and I felt the amount of food was more than enough! My husband and I are visiting the Sparks/Reno and Carson City area. We decided to grab a Quick couple of tacos at this nice restaurant and were pleasantly surprised ! San Marcos is an amazing Mexican Restaurant! When my family and I first arrived we were greeted from the super nice and welcoming staff. The restaurant is very clean and well ran. Our waitress was very intentive and made sure our food was ordered correctly. The restaurant was super busy but she still made sure to check-in with us. When the food arrived (which didn't take long ~less than 10 minutes) it looked amazing. You definitely get your moneys worth here at San Marcos! today I took my son and daughter-in-law to San Marcos Grill for lunch. my family recently moved to Carson City from Chico, California, and seem to be very disappointed in the nachos. They were eating around town. I have been to San Marcos many times and never had a bad meal we arrived and our waitress was at the table in a minute, bringing us beverages, a basket of delicious chips, and two types of dip one the typical salsa, the other, a refried bean dip which was delicious. We ordered the steak nacho, which was huge and loaded with everything and anything you could think of . When we asked for a little extra sour cream, she brought over a huge amount which was surprising because usually only ask for something like that, they bring you a small little container. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup, which was great, my son got the shrimp fajitas. My daughter-in-law got the taco plate special and everything was amazing. The service was incredible, we met the mom one of the owners named Elena and she has her husband and daughter there with her . It felt like being in someone's home lots of smiles lots of conversation no rushing around. We truly enjoyed being there of course no good meal is complete without dessert. My daughter-in-law and I got the churros Con chocolate and my son got the flan with two generous amounts of whipped cream on each side, everything was delicious. The last Friday of every month they do a tequila testing event and they cater. what a wonderful experience and my kids finally found nachos that they could say were incredible. I would highly recommend them for lunch or dinner, we used to go there for Christmas Eve, and after the restaurant closed, they hosted a party for all of their employees. It's obvious there are a zillion Mexican restaurants in this town but this one has been here for years and never disappoints. I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. read more

1st off, this place was crazy busy And has great star reviews. Our issue was, there was no spice in anything. The salsa was literally tomatoes and cilantro. 0 heat in it at all. Had to order extra as we were told it comes with 3, which it actually came with 4 which was all we needed. So now have 4 more for the leftovers, (I had plenty at home) but still did not need that many. It did not come with refried beans, so we ordered a side of that for 4.99. The Ranchero sauce they put on the arroz con pollo had little to no flavor. I'm from Texas. I love flavor and spice. Our waitress according to the ticket was MOD? She was really nice but only saw her twice. To take our order and bring the check. Added a side of guacamole for 4.99 which was really tasty. Still no spice. The restaurant itself was clean. There are several dining areas they open up according to business from what I saw. So all in all we paid 11.00 in extras to make the meal complete. We could have saved the 3.00 on the extra tortillas had we been informed of the right amount that come with the dish. Mist likely will not go back. But if you need food that is very low in spice. My order was not warm at all not to mention the steak look slightly sautéed and the color and smell was awful. The margaritas were good. Chili verde and mom's shrimp salad was delicious. It was our first time here and we were greeted near the entrance by a free tequila tasting. Not sure if this is a regular occurrence but it was definitely a nice surprise. We had a group of 9 with no reservation on a Friday evening so understandably we had to wait a bit to get seated. Once seated we were waited on by Flor who was amazing. She was attentive and quick to see if we needed refills on drinks, chips and salsa. For drinks I had a a Loaded Cadillac Margarita, some of my friends Mango Margarita Pitcher, and tried my wife's Mizita Paloma (I think thats what it was called). This is likely personal preference but I wasn't a giant fan of the Margaritas because they were both just very sweet for me. My wife Paloma drink was very delicious though. (We sat next to the restroom) booth by the back and let's just say it smelled like a dive bar bathroom you get the drift.. not so appetizing Decided to wait it out, for the food it mediocre Chile verde (small portion) for $22 I expected more.. my husband had Chile Colorado (small portion) you think after 2 margaritas & 1 hour wait they give you much more.. ***by the way word of caution 1st basket chip free, (in very small print in menu) they will keep charging you an extra $4.98 every basket of chips after which the waiter will not mention in case you didn't read that in the disclaimer...and they will ask you if like more chips... Not impressed, save your money and go somewhere else...where they won't over charge you for drinks & chips. read more

There were quite a few options for south of the border cuisines in the vicinity. But, based on the reviews of fellow yelpers, we decided to choose this restaurant. Walking into the restaurant, we could see the well decorated walls. On that day, the restaurant was almost filled to capacity. Had to wait a couple of minutes for a table to be bused. I love this place! We've been coming here for years and years and the food is always delicious. It's super cute and quite spacious after the remodel a couple of years ago. Usually I get the one item combination with a chile relleno, which is never a wrong choice, but yesterday we were in the mood for breakfast. So two of us had the most delicious huevos rancheros ever and one had a tasty chilaquiles con huevos. Everything was melt-in-your-mouth goodness.
