The last review was four years ago. Glad there's so much interest in San Pedro Museo de Arte. Sadly it's a a stinker of a museum. First off no credit cards are accepted. No biggie but after spending time accessing an ATM and returning with a 200 peso note they couldn't make change. Had to purchase a drink at a convenience store to get cambio. The exhibits included Japanese masks, some dioramas of life at the former hospital that occupied the building and drawings of naked women. Was finished in 15 minutes. I spent more time procuring the 28 peso admission than touring the exhibitions. The inside and outside banners for a different temporary exhibition were false advertising. Skip this place. read more

This centuries-old building was mainly used as a hospital until the mid-20th century. By 1998, it became the Museo Poblano de Arte Virrenal and, in 2002, it finally became the San Pedro Museo de Arte. The expansive courtyard is now covered by a translucent rain funnel that protects the space from inclement weather and it is a massive work of art in itself. On my recent visit, the upper galleries featured an exhibition of young artists and I'm often excited at these opportunities because pleasant surprises may await. I wasn't disappointed. I was especially taken by the line drawings of Dinora Palma. Moises Cervantes' hyper-realistic painting displayed his incredible technical skill. Robie Espinoza's images on wood boards titled 'Attempt to Embrace' was lovely in its simplicity. Finally, Antonio Bravo Avendano's large-scale ink on paper work takes a cue from Mexico's long history of woodcut artistry. This museum is a block away from the zócalo and is definitely worth the short walk. read more

I feel like this place should be more known. It's definitely quite and more than enough room to explore all the different art pieces. Friendly volunteers and employees. And I feel like you definitely get more worth of your penny. read more
