This is by far THE MOST unprofessional and poorly run facility that I have EVER dealt with. This place had the audacity to charge my bank twice for a gift card. Upon approaching the spa after their system charged me twice, the front desk attendant was very rude and said we'd need to take this matter up with our bank. The bank actually commented saying that this happens often with this business and reversed the second charge. This management then charged my bank AGAIN for a service I NEVER RECEIVED AND paid for twice. The one service/gift card that my spouse did redeem was less than desirable even requesting that customers book massages on weekdays and daytime hours ONLY. The spa experience was less than average as well. Please do NOT waste your time or risk your hard earned money being stolen from this horribly run facility. Steer clear of this facility! Every aspect of my experience from staff to management to performance to accounting has been by far the worst service that I have received. In my attempt to purchase a gift card for a massage, the online system had a glitch which resulted in charging my cc twice for a $200 gift card. I then emailed the very same platform that sent my confirmation emails only to receive a message that the email was undeliverable. I decided to stay with both $200 gift cards as an act of faith that the spa services would render favorable. Well, the person that I purchased the massages for said that his first experience was so dissatisfying that he did not care to return, (including the fact that he had to take time from work as the spa services are weekdays only). Therefore, I decided that I would utilize the second gift card only to be told that their records reflected just one purchase and to provide proof by visiting the salon with my bank records in hand. I arrived to this facility, (again), in good faith to rectify this situation. I did not request my monies back, I simply requested the services due. I was then told that their system reflected only one payment and to dispute this charge with my bank. My bank statement clearly confirmed the two separate purchases. The representative also stated that she would have ownership reach out via phone. I have not received a call. In my mind, this company has stolen $200 of my hard earned money and will do the same to you! read more

I have come to Sanctuary for hair and spa services since 2003 and have always been over the moon happy with services. It hasn't been my regular place because coming to Sanctuary has always been my treat to myself about once a year. Today I schedule an appointment for a 90-minute massage as my treat for this year and was told I had to prepay. I've never missed an appointment, never so much as rescheduled an appointment. They told me this time they would make my appointment without me prepaying and then called me back later and said I had to prepay for my massage. Unfortunately (for me) they have lost my business. They won't miss my little $150 a year, I guess. Prepaying for a service in November wasn't in my budget, I think this is really bad policy on their part. I need to preface this by saying they did offer to fix it. I'm not sure if it would've been free, but safe to assume it would be. I didn't trust them to fix it honestly. I paid $50 + $10 tip to have my hair cut UNEVENLY. Please look at this picture, I mean seriously?? I really debated if I should leave a review, but I just can't get over this. I feel like it's actually insane that I paid a salon price to not even have my hair cut correctly. I also specifically asked for it to not be cut so bluntly at the ends, but honestly that's besides the point. I literally ended up cutting it MYSELF with a pair of dollar tree shears. I've been going to Sanctuary on and off for years. After a 2 year COVID-induced hiatus, I went back for a cut and color. I am so happy to report they are better than ever. Alyssa did my services and this person knows how to cut hair. I have thick, curly hair and she did the absolute best curly haircut I've ever had. I am recommending her to all my curly girl friends. The color was great too, but I was so impressed with her knowledge of cutting difficult curly hair. read more

Prices are a bit high for the quality so they rate 4 stars instead of 5. Stylists are hit or miss. I had two and eventually just had to move salons since they never could get the cuts right despite photos or/and discussion; they did know how to cut hair tho. For those who are disciples of Aveda, it doesn't appear the stylists are all Aveda Institute trained. And I'm not sure that they take notes on their clients after appointments since they couldn't remember exactly what modifications were done to the cuts at the next appointment nor could they remember individual customer preferences. Discussion amongst other customers details the same experience, but some have been happier with their stylists. The colorists are consistently good, particularly if you are looking for a consistent coloring scheme. I recommend Tony for coloring. I've used a few of the spa services and they are among the better in town but prices are high and quality is variable. I have not used waxing services, so I can't make any recommendations there. read more

This salon is way over rated. The stylist are not worth the professional prices. I have been a customer for 10 years and watched the professional stylist leave because of unfair manager skills. The one senior stylist is not qualified to work on the floor and pretend to be a professional. The salon lacks support from management that results in failure to do adequate hair service. Professional stylist are not able to keep the standard needed for the profession in Cosmetology. They should charge school prices as it is not practicing what they try to say the salon stands for as a upscale spa/salon. Unfortunately the profession is suffering because of lack of communication with customers and abilities to understand what is best for quality results. This manager needs to really get help with understanding the stylist hard work that can uphold quality and as a manager she should do everything to keep them working at the salon. Why is it so hard to be thankful for the people that know what they are doing and pay them for making the salon what it says it is supposed to be as a top of the line salon. This is why customers stop coming and the sad thing is that the professionals suffer also because of not supporting people that work hard to be successful to make the salon what it says it is. The Sanctuary is a beautiful concept but I was very disappointed when the manager thought she could pretend to be a stylist and put on a show that she could do hair. The staff was as shocked as I was and again it demonstrates the lack of respect for the people that actually went to school to get a license to practice. This is sad to see this happen as a person who has been in the business and had hopes of a successful salon to go to for quality spa and hair service. read more

Oh dear. I read the other reviews and I don't know what to think. I know that when I came here it was really great and I had a fantastic cut and color and as a result I switched over to Aveda only for my hair color. I can't speak for other people of course, and don't know what happened for them. Maybe my expectations aren't that high as well, I lived in NYC for many years and am not used to alot of adoration and such in general. If the product and the service is good, then that's all I care about. All business is just fine with me. Besides, this is Montana and not California, thank goodness. Actually, I usually feel very uncomfortable when people are flattering me and assume they are trying to pull one over on me ! Well, often they are or there is something wrong for sure. Lol! But I digress. I was living down at Crow when I came here and it was such a nice treat to come into town and get all prettied up and smell nice from the fantastic Aveda products. I felt awesome when I drove home and for the next few weeks as I hiked around the hills down there. Went here recently for a massage and pedi. The message was relaxing but after discussing a couple areas for her to focus on, she barely massaged them. Also the robes are starting to show wear and look shabby. The pedi was so so. She almost forgot exfoliation of one foot hadn't I reminded her and what she did exfoliate wasn't very thorough and missed some spots. Also one toenail wasn't completely covered with polish. Their polish color selection is kind of boring and plain. No fun summer colors. This place charges crazy prices for what you get. Probably one of the most expensive in town. I had the WORST experience there last weekend. I came in with a wedding party. We were all really excited to have our hair done and get dolled up for the wedding. The girl who did my hair was young, but had really outdated style and hair. I should've known immediately that our styles didn't align, but was trying to be a good sport. I told her that I wanted to leave my hair down, but have lots of curls. I explained that my hair doesn't hold a curl well and she suggested that it would be best to put in tons of small curls so they can "drop" throughout the night. She immediately went to work using a curl rod. I was happy with her progress until she had a coworker come over to assist. The coworker had never used a curl rod before and could not get it to produce one nice curl. She left "curls" in my hair that weren't curled all the way and were left straight for about 4 inches on the bottom (I have long hair). It looked TERRIBLE! All the ends were sticking out straight while the tops were curled. It was a MESS! Then they started ratting the top like crazy and actually told me that they were going for the "bump it" look. Really? I know I'm out of touch with style trends in Billings, but I hope that look hasn't caught on. They ratted the hell out of my hair and made it look even worse. It was truly terrible. I'm not one to complain and usually easily go with the flow, but this was really bad. Even the other bridesmaids were concerned. The girl didn't know how to fix it and just kept asking me if I wanted more ratting or not. THEN - she walked away and started helping another client! She didn't even finish my hair! She let the inexperienced girl (who couldn't use the curl rod) "finish". I walked out of there in tears. My hair looked even worse after about an hour because my curls weren't truly curls and some strands had been left straight. It was a disaster. I WOULD AVOID THIS PLACE FOR WEDDING HAIR AT ALL COSTS. I was shocked at how bad my hair turned out and how little they did to fix it when I expressed some distress. It is completely unprofessional to leave a client without finishing her hair, especially when that client is in tears. I looked around while they were doing my hair and noticed that a lot of the gals in this place have a pretty outdated, small-town style. If you like a more polished, sophisticated look, I'd go somewhere else. I'm not sure what happened to this place. I used to go there years ago when I'd come through town to visit my family. There used to be a couple gals who were pretty good and had a really modern, clean style. I think they've all left now and been replaced by young girls straight off the farm who think ratted hair is cute and can't use a curl rod to save their lives. If nothing else, they all need some training on customer service and professionalism. If I could give this salon negative stars, I would. read more

First time I visited sanctuary was in September 2016. I booked two massages one for my husband and one for myself. We had amazing service, would definitely recommend. I have recently gone back for eyebrow waxing. Malinda/ Melinda has been wonderful I made sure I requested her a second time. She takes the time make sure my eyebrows look great. Pretty bummed about this Aveda. While I have had no problems with staff or the stylists at this location, the prices have steadily increased lately and the cheapest haircut they quoted me this morning was $33, which is outside my budget. I might have accepted this but recently have had haircuts for $20 to $25 out of town in Fort Collins CO., Denver CO. and Fargo ND. at 3 different Aveda salons so I know what they should be charging clients. I don't like to be overcharged for no reason. Shame on Aveda for not being more consistent with their prices and allowing Billings stylists to overcharge for their services. I will continue to go out of town (and out of state) when Billings services cannot remain competitive - you can bet on it. Disappointed!! read more

Worst hair cut I've gotten in 10 years, with the same quality a person would expect from a $5 Walmart hair cut. Except they charge $66. I booked an appointment at another salon the very next day to repair the hack job, otherwise I would have to wear a ponytail for months until it grew out. Im new to billings so i went to this salon thinking i would have a wonderful experience ... they were awful the rudest people ive ever met did not make me feel comfortable at all, they did not make conversation and were very awkward when i would make conversation.. i was also unaware that you do not have the same stylist throughout your whole visit i had one girl do my color and another one wash my hair and blowdry my hair. The color looks really good they did an excellent job but the overall experience of this salon will FORSURE keep me from not going back . For the cost of this salon i would expect alot more it was awful and i will not recommend it to anyone read more

We made appointments for massages Friday afternoon. Both our massages were scheduled for noon on Saturday. Saturday morning we received a call saying both of our massages were canceled, apparently each of them had developed medical issues between Friday PM and Saturday AM. So not impressed. This place is awful. I have gone here for years off and on and can see a huge decline in customer service. The last time there, the stylist had someone else wash my hair. He did not scrub my hair, and did not rinse out the conditioner. The stylist commented that my hair still had conditioner in it when she dried it, yet she did nothing about it. It's really sad to see only negative reviews for this place as I have been faithfully going to this place for over a year now and have never had any issues that weren't complete resolved when I brought them up. I am regular when it comes to colour - whenever I want to change it up they really work with me to get exactly the look I'm going for. I've only had one mistake happen and they fixed it for free not a problem at all. When a stylist does my hair it always turns out amazing. I just let them do what they'd like because it's fun. They include a lot of complementary services and it's always a bright and cheery atmosphere. I've also experienced their spa which is also very good. They have a very relaxing area for their services and I'm always leaving there completely refreshed. I have not done anything with nails but I've heard good things about them. Elle is the best - but all the other employees are also very nice and professional. read more

I was given a gift card to this place to enjoy myself. I had never been to Sanctuary so I was ecstatic I was going to get the chance to experience this place. I heard from people it was heaven. When I walked in the place took me back. It was very bright and clean. I thought to myself how nice is this. Then it took a turn for the worst. I got up to the desk finally, after the line dwindled down and the girl behind the desk (who must have been new) couldn't figure it out. I being sympathetic to new people just brushed it off. They brought be some water as I waited. My appointment was set for 5:30 however, my stylist came over at about 5:45. She rushed me back to start on my color. As I was trying to explain what I wanted, she seemed anxious. She must have been running behind because I felt like she rushed through my color. Once she was done with it I had to process, and she just kind of jetted off to the next client. I noticed the other stylist back there was giving her client a hand massage. It looked really nice, but I did not receive one because my stylist was rushed. When my processing time was up the other stylist came over to rinse my hair out. She was very friendly, and I was hoping maybe she was going to cut my hair. However, my original stylist came over to finish me up. I though to myself well its later now and I am the last client maybe she will engage in more conversation. Again, not the case she seemed to just want to get me done so she could go home. i just sat their quietly and observed the front desk girls. They were running around checking windows and changing garbages. Like I said I was the last one in the front and the other girls who were there were just cleaning up and closing the place down. I felt so awkward and it really made it seem like I was an inconvenience to my stylist to be there at that time. I was semi pleased with my color and cut but not overly impressed with how much my total was at the end of the evening. I also didn't want to say anything because it was made clear from everyone there they were not interested in doing any customer service that night. I was a bit relieved while I was paying to see someone walk out of the spa (nice to know I wasn't the only late one in there). When she walked out she walked past their nail area and seemed to be a little stunned that all the garbages from that area were just laying out in the open. It was kind of gross. I wouldn't say this place is awful, however I feel like I wouldn't go back because I was spending my money their to feel relaxed and really I just felt rushed. No one except the girl who washed my hair (Alesse maybe was her name) was overly friendly. And watching the whole crew shut the place down while I was still there made me feel like I was a burden. If you go to this place go during the day it might be a more welcoming atmosphere. read more

I walked in to Sanctuary a week ago to see if I could possibly get in to get some waxing done. They had no appointments that day, but had something available today, (one week later). As I was standing at the desk, I told the girl that I specifically needed an esthetician, and she made the appointment, gave me a card with the the person my appointment was scheduled with, Amanda, an esthetician, and I went on my way. I showed up this morning for my appointment, the gal at the counter then said that my phone number was wrong in their system and could they update it. She then got all kinds of personal information on me and then she said the my appointment was with someone else other than what was on my card and some young gal came and got me and walked me over to her station to sit in her chair and wax. What? I asked for an esthetician, not a hairdresser, and I need to be in a room where it's private. That's what I made my appointment for. The two gals then looked at each other, said that their esthetician doesn't do waxing in a private room anyway, they had no clue what to do, so I just left. Are you kidding me? You just decided to change my appointment entirely and then not tell me even once I got to the salon? I have never heard of an esthetician that does waxing in a chair. You people need to get it together. I then went home, called Nailissimo, and was able to get right in and Jacque did a wonderful job there. I also saved money as they were going to charge me $48 and she was significantly less expensive with a much better experience. I can't believe I waited a week for that.
