~~The Short~~ Thursday means "Burger Day". You can get a Burger and Chips for $10. Nuff said... ~~The Long~~ Saw that the cafe was offering a Burger deal for $10. Being a bit of a burger fan, I suggested this as a lunch option on our stay up here in Caloundra. The burger was a standard beef burger, but I decided to add an egg for an extra $1. Originally I was scoping out the restaurant menu which advertised the burgers for $17 for dine in. I wasn't aware that you could pretty much get the same thing at the cafe for the regular price of about $9 (sans chips). Everything on the restaurant burger menu was the same as the cafe produced burger. The burger had a hand-made patty (which could have done with a touch more seasoning). Instead of bog-standard iceberg lettuce, I was treated to a mixed leaf mix, with the addition of carrot. The salads--lettuce mix, carrot, beetroot, tomato--were all very fresh. Overall the burger was definitely up to scratch. I added an egg for $1, which was cooked sunny side up. I was a bit worried that it would get messy, but the warm yolk added a delicious sauciness of sorts to the burger. Would go soft again. A real highlight for me was the chips. The oil must've been perfect when they cooked them, because the chippie exterior was super crunchy and the chippie guts light and fluffy in the middle. For $10, I'd be back time and time again if I were a local. The time from order to call-out was about 20 minutes (and it wasn't that busy), but it was worth the wait. read more

My partner and I were staying near Sandbar Cafe and Kiosk for Caloundra Music Festival this year (2012). After a walk around the shops near Bulcock Beach and realising nearly nothing is open after 2pm, we had lunch here. We both decided that the gnocchi with haloumi, asparagus and lemon sounded brilliant. While I was eating it, it was pretty darn amazing. The gnocchi seemed to be pan fried in bread crumbs, the haloumi crisp on the outside. I couldn't really taste the lemon, I think it would have made it a little better if I could. I really enjoyed the meal and it definitely hit the spot. It did leave me feeling a little heavy though, quite dense ingredients. Staff were friendly, view was nice. I don't have anything to complain about but I can't really say anything stood out. It was pretty good food though. I'm kind of torn. I won't go out of my way to go back, but I think if I stay at the same hotel again I will. Yeah. read more

We stopped at Sandbar Cafe on our first day in Caloundra for a late lunch/early dinner after a busy day of driving and getting settled in at our hotel. After settling on the venue, my partner and I were promptly seated and left for a moment to decide on drinks and meals. We both ordered the Potato Gnocchi (gnocchi, roasted mushrooms, haloumi, asparagus, spinach & lemon) and a soft drink and found our meals came out promptly. The dish was full of flavour, the pan-fried gnocchi was crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside . Portion size was large and I couldn't manage to eat it all! Went for dinner and the service was not good. Took our order and then forgot to make it. Came back to us after 30 mins asking if we'd like to order... In the mean time they have brought out my daughters kids meal and a glass of wine?!! Food was ok but for the price portions we small After we finished we waited for someone to come back for the bill. Takeaway fish (snapper) and chips. Food was.good but a bit greasier than i'd like. Snapper was fresh but might have been better grilled, the breadcrumbs were soggy. I remember this establishment being a lot better. read more

Had breakfast here two days in a row and the service has been friendly genuine and efficient. The bacon cooked to perfection and the best cooked soft poached eggs I've had out. The owners make sure you enjoy the experience and the price-point is aimed at great value for money. read more

My wife and I were looking for somewhere to get out of the heat for a bite and drink. As we drove past it seemed to invite us in. Very good food, friendly, efficient and relaxed service with a great view. A definite stop next time we're in this part of the world. read more
