We came to the Sandbar Grill a few times while staying at The Pelican Grand! This was a fun spot to stop at that was close by. We tried a multitude of things over the visits ranging from breakfast to lunch to dinner! All of it we enjoyed, and it comes out fairly quickly. Service was good every time. We had Jackie a majority of the time - she was extremely helpful, personable, and had an overall great demeanor! There is a decent amount of seating, but sitting on the patio is where we spent most of our time with a great view of the ocean.

We were staying next door and wanted a quick dinner after travelling. The Sandbar Grill fit the bill! Cute spot right on the beach with extensive outdoor dining. A solid mix for everyone. I got the catch of the day and while it was a little dry it was flavorful. My father in law loved the giant hot dog. Drinks were perfect for the vibe!

The location is absolutely amazing. The setting and landscaping are really well done, and it creates a great first impression right away. The service was solid. Our server was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, which I appreciated. Breakfast, though, was a bit of a letdown. My expectations were probably higher than they should've been, and I later realized that most of the Yelp praise seems to center on lunch and dinner. It wasn't bad by any means, just pretty average overall. I get the tiki bar theme, and that part is fun and unique, but when it comes to the food, I was hoping for a little more. I'd be open to coming back for lunch or dinner to see if that's where this place really shines.

Grouper Tacos and ocean views- doesn't get better than this. Shout out to Daniel for the excellent service. We will be back here.

Jackie is the best. Great food, great service. Blackened Grouper is amazing. Shrimp wrap and house chips so good. great margs, beach view.

    Breakfast Flatbread

Just had the most delicious breakfast flatbread--perfectly cooked, fresh, and packed with flavor. But what really made the experience stand out was our server, Jackie. She was so warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. She made sure everything was perfect and added such a positive vibe to our morning!

Visiting from out of state. Cute little spot with a great view. Waitress was kind and the food came out pretty fast. Prices weren't bad. My one complaint is that I hated the strawberry daiquiri. The club sandwich and fries were delicious! Hubby thought the wings were good. Hopefully we'll be able to visit again.

What a cute location! I don't know how I haven't been here before! Great little spot right on the sand! Views are spectacular and service was good!

This place is great for being a place right on the beach! I stopped here to grab brunch- the menu is good for both food and drinks. The waiter was attentive and so nice. The only downfall for the knock off of stars was I went to the bathroom and when I came back my table was cleaned off and taken by a group of people.. I hadn't even paid my tab yet... and then there was some confusion when it came to them offering chairs and towels on the beach which is handled by the front desk but that got resolved. All in all I don't know when I'll be back in the area but I would recommend ... just don't leave your table

What a cool spot to hang out and get some good tacos! I was highly impressed with their menu and the service that we received. The shrimp tacos that i ordered were so good! I didn't really like the sauce that they came with (it is not mentioned on the menu that the sauce comes on it). It was a bit overwhelming and I don't like to send food back so I picked around it. The shrimp were massive! The restaurant is mostly outdoors at the back of a cute little boutique hotel on the beach. It was windy. . .the birds don't really bother you much...and the water makes it relaxing.

We had a big group and Ivan took excellent care of us!!! He was super attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. I got the shrimp tacos and it was a great serving with three hefty tacos. Would absolutely recommend anyone come here!! We had the best experience!!

    Is there parking?

You can drop the keys at the main entrance desk lobby for free or meters near by. Enjoy.

    Is your place dog friendly?

No because dogs are not allowed east of A1A and the restaurant is on the beach itself. Not a good idea.

A roaster bearing the name of…read morean Indigenous people -- the Calusa, the ancient shell-mound builders, the unconquered lords of South Florida's mangroves and waterways. People who never surrendered. People whose bones are folded into this very soil. As someone who walks through this world carrying Taíno blood and the memory of peoples whose names colonizers tried to erase, that word hit different. It wasn't a gimmick. It wasn't a logo. It was a declaration -- that this land has a story older than any espresso machine, and somebody here understood that. That understanding alone earned my curiosity and my respect before I'd even stepped through the door. "The name carried the weight of a people who never bent. That's the kind of legacy worth building a roastery around." Then I learned the story behind the man behind the roaster -- and it only deepened my respect. Luis Arteaga came home from serving in the United States Marine Corps and did what so many veterans do: he looked for work. No fanfare. No red carpet. Just a man with discipline in his bones and calluses on his hands, trying to find his next mission in a civilian world that doesn't always know what to do with people like that. He found his way to the original owners of Calusa Coffee Roasters. They saw in him what the Corps had always seen -- dependability, grit, and a willingness to learn. They gave him a job. A floor to stand on. And Luis did what Marines do -- he didn't just fill a position, he grew into something greater. Over time, through sweat and dedication and an unmistakable passion for the craft, he rose to become the owner of the very roastery that once took a chance on him. That's not a business story. That's an American story. A veteran's story. And it's exactly the kind of origin that makes a cup of coffee taste like something more than coffee. CALUSA COFFEE ROASTERS IS A SOUTH FLORIDA INSTITUTION Fast forward to today, and Calusa Coffee Roasters isn't just surviving -- it is a staple. Walk into the right cigar bar on a Friday evening and someone at the table will mention the name. Sit down at the right diner counter on a Tuesday morning and a regular will nod toward that familiar bag. In South Florida's rich, layered, cafecito-and-culture coffee landscape, that kind of word-of-mouth is earned over years of consistency, of showing up, of never letting the cup get small. Luis continues to build something that belongs to this community -- rooted in the terroir of a region as complex and layered as its people. The coffee is exceptional. Bold where it should be bold, nuanced where it earns it. The kind of roast that makes you sit down instead of rushing out. That's no accident. That's someone who respects the craft because he was forged in institutions that demand nothing less than your best. "When a Marine finds his mission in a roastery, every bag he puts his name on carries the same standard -- do it right or don't do it at all." Meeting Luis was one of those moments I didn't expect to move me the way it did. We are both moving through the coffee world trying to build something that means something -- something rooted in identity, in service, in the belief that what's in the cup should tell a story worth hearing. And here was a fellow Marine who had walked a road I recognize: uncertain ground, earned footing, and a refusal to quit. And finally, if you are in South Florida and you have not made the pilgrimage to Calusa Coffee Roasters on Commercial Blvd, you are overdue. Go for the coffee -- stay for the story. And if you're lucky enough to meet the man himself, shake his hand. He earned it in more ways than one. To Luis Arteaga and everyone at Calusa: thank you for carrying a name that honors this land. Thank you for honoring the service that shaped you. And thank you for a cup of coffee that carries the weight of all of it without spilling a drop. Semper Fi, brother. Keep roasting.
